(p. 728) pavanamu pavanamu. [Skt.] n. Air, Wind. పవనతనయుడు pavana-tanayuḍu. n. The son of the air, i.e., Hanuman (హనుమంతుడు.), Bhīma (భీముడు), or Agni (అగ్ని). పవనాశనము pavan-āṣanamu. n. A creature that lives on air, i.e., a serpent. పాము. పవనుడు or పవమానుడు pavanuḍu. n. The god of the air. Wind. the god of wind.

(p. 861) bakamu bakamu. [Skt.] n. A heron. వక్కు కొంగ. బకధ్యానము hypocrisy. (The heron seems to stand praying or meditating, while in truth he is aiming at his prey the fish.) బకవైరి baka-vairi. n. A title of Krishna or Bhima, who slew the demon named Baka. కృష్ణుడు, భీముడు.

'నీవుతొడడిబడజచ్చినతోడనేబెగడి, విడివడబ్రాణముల్ విడుచునీశిశువు. ' HD. i. 2197. బెగడుపరచు begaḍu-para-ṭsu. v. a. To frighten, intimidate. 'శకుని పైనరుపదియమ్ములు నాటించియనుచరులను బెగడు పరచెనాభీముడు.' M. IX. i. 438. 'సింహని నాందబాలించి బెగడినయేనుంగుతెరంగున బెగ్గడిల్లి.' Ila. iii. 6.

Swa. v. 52. భీరుకుడు or భీలుకుడు bhīrukuḍu. n. One who fears, a timid man. భయపడువాడు, వెరపరి. భీషణము or భీష్మము bhīshaṇamu. n. Horror, dreadfulness. adj. Horrible, dreadful. భీష్ముడు bhīsh muḍu. n. A terrible man. భయంకరుడు. The name of a hero in the Mahábharáta. భీష్మించు or బీష్మికరించు bhīṣhminṭsu. v. n. To declare or protest as Bhishma did in the affair of Satyavati.

(p. 978) mārutamu mārutamu. [Skt. from మరుత్తు.] n. Air, wind, గాలి, వాయువు. మారుతి or మారుతాత్మజుడు māruti n. Son of the wind, an epithet of Hanuman and Bhīma హనుమంతుడు, భీముడు. మారుతాశనము mārut-āṣanamu. n. A snake; (lit. that which lives on air.) సర్పము.

(p. 1124) vaḍa vaḍa. [Tel.] n. Heat, వేడిమి, ఎండసెగ. తాపము. Trouble, pain, labour, శ్రమము. A sort of cake, గారె. A kind of hot cake. adj. Hot, వేడి. వడకొట్టి చచ్చిపోయినాడు or వడతగిలి చచ్చిపోయినాడు he died of sunstroke. 'నిప్పులవసంతములాడు నెండలవడజల్లుపడమటి వాయువులును.' P. i. 304. వడగల్లు vaḍa-gallu. n. A hailstone. 'రాలెనొయ్యనవడగండ్లు పాలపండ్లు.' A. iv. 118. పడగవ్వ vaḍa-gavva. n. The name of a certain fish, a species of Scomber. Russell, plate 139. వడగాలి or వడగాడ్పు vaḍi-gāli. n. The hot or land wind. నిప్పుగాలి. వడగొను vaḍa-gonu. v. n. To feel hot, తాపమునుపొందు. వడపప్పు vaḍa-pappu. n. A dish of green gram, split and soaked in water, with salt, pepper, assafœtida, &c. బడలికతీరుటకు నానవేసి కొంచెము ఉప్పు ఉంగువకలిపిన పెసరపప్పు. వడపిందె vaḍa-pinde.- n. A tender fruit that falls down from a tree through the heat of the weather. వడముడి vaḍa-muḍi. n. One who makes it hot for his enemies, శత్రువులకు తాపమును గలుగజేయువాడు. A Telugu name of Bhīma, one of the heroes of the Pāndu race. భీముడు. 'క కడువడి ౛నియంతంతంబుడమిబడినకరులగములు పొరలుట కతనన్ వడముడియడచినతెరువేర్పడగని వేవేగతేరు పరపెం గదియున్.' M. VI. ii. 375.
