(p. 109) āgu āgu. [Tel.] v. n. To stop, to stay, asbtain, refrain. To bear (as a cord does a weight.) To be confined, set aside, or reserved. ఆయింటను ఆగబడి యున్నదేవకి (B. X. 75.) Devaki who was kept in restraint. తల్లిదండ్రులులెని బాలురు ఆగ నీవు దిక్కు thou art the refuge of the helpless. పశువులకు ఆరినబీడు land set aside or reserved for pasture. ఇది లేనిది నాకు ఆగదు I cannot get on without this. నా నోటిలో ఆ మాట ఆగదు I cannot keep that word a secret. ఆగు, ఆగించు, ఆచు, ఆపు the causal of ఆగు: āgu. [Tel.] v. t. To stop, check, hinder. To keep, tend. To look to, superintend, guard, protect, preserve. To fold or gather as a flock. నోరాచి మాట్లాడిరి they spoke cautiously. చెయ్యి ఆపక (T. v. 22.) without intermission. నిద్ర ఆచుట to refrain from sleep, keep away drowsiness. రాత్రిళ్లు ఇక్కడ మందులు ఆచుకొని యుండేవారు they used to keep cattle here at nights.

(p. 938) mandu mandu. [Tel. cf. Tam. మరందు.] n. Medicine, physic, a drug. ఔషధము. A love powder, వశ్యౌషధము. An antidote, ప్రతిక్రియ. An expedient, ఉపాయము. దీనికొక మందు చెప్పెదను I will tell you a device for this. Poison, విషము. Gunpowder, తుపాకి మందు. A rarity, a scarce thing. ఇంట్లో బియ్యము మందుకైనా లేవు there is no rice to be had for love or money. మంచివానికి మాట్లాడనిదేమందు if you are silent towards a good man it is a punishment to him. నీలిమందు indigo. నల్లమందు opium. మందుభాయీ or నల్లమందుభాయీ an opium eater. వలపుమందు or పెట్టుమందు love powder. మందుకాటుక eye salve. మందుపెట్టు to drug, to infatuate a person by administering to him or her a love powder, to poison. మనోవ్యాధికి మందులేదు there is no cure for the heart-ache. దానిమందు వాని తలకెక్కినది the love powder administered by her has turned his head. adj. Impossible, దుర్లభము. 'కూడుదానగల్గెనేని కూరగుటమందు.' ఆము. iv. మందుపట్టడ mandu-paṭṭaḍa. n. A place where fireworks are prepared. బాణసంచుచేసెడుశాల. మందుమల mandu-mala. n. A hill on which drugs are found, an epithet applied to a hill called ద్రోణము. మందులమారి mandula-māri. n. One who administers love powders. మందాకు mand-aku. n. A medicinal herb. ఓషధి. 'కోటబంగారుగా జేయుకొరుకుమున్ను బ్రహ్మపిడిచిన మందాకు పసరవంగ.' A. ii. 8. మందులవాడు mandula-vāḍu. n. A druggist

(p. 951) manasu or మనస్సు manasu. [Tel.] n. The internal organ of cognition, the intellect, understanding, mind. Inclination, wish, will, pleasure, ఇష్టము. adj. Liking. ఇష్టము. మనసగు manas-agu. (మనసు + అగు.) v. n. To like, ఇష్టమగు. మనోవేగముగా పోయినాడు he went as quick as thought. మనోవ్యాధికి మందులేదు there is no cure for the heart-ache or for a mental disease. వాణ్ని పిలవడానకు నీకెట్లా మనస్సు వచ్చినది how could you find it in your heart to call him? నీకు మనస్సు వచ్చినదానిని తీసికొనవచ్చును you may take which you choose. దానిని చేయడానకు వానికి యింకా మనస్సు రాలేదు he is not yet inclined to do this. తమరు మనస్సు పట్టితే అవును if you once set your heart upon it it will be done. వానికి మనస్సువస్తే ఒకటి, మనస్సు రాకపోతే ఒకటి he is guided by fancy or whim. మనస్సే కైలాసము heaven is in the heart. వానిమనస్సు అభేద్యము his thoughts are inscrutable. వాని మనస్సును ఎందుకు నొప్పించెదవు why should you grieve him or his heart? వానిమనస్సు విరిగినది he is heart-broken. ఈమాట నీమనస్సులో ఉండనీ you must keep this to yourself. అది యేడ్చితే వానిమనస్సు తాళలేదు he could not endure to see her weep. వాని మనస్సు తిరుగలేదు he has not altered his opinion. వానికి మనస్సులో ఒకటి, బయట ఒకటి he has one thing in his heart and another in his mouth. నామనస్సు ఒకవిధముగానున్నది I know not what to think, my mind is confused. 'ఇంద్రియములు మనస్థ్సములు' the senses are dependent on the mind. M. XII. v. 596. మనస్థ్సమైనమాట the thought of his heart. మీ మనస్సు as you please, your pleasure. వానిమనస్సువచ్చినట్టు as he chose, as he pleased. మనసియ్యలేదు he did not tell his real thoughts. నీ మనస్సు వచ్చినట్టా or నీమనస్సు పోయినదే దోవా what! are you to do as you like! మనస్సు ఉంచు to give close attention. మనస్సులోనిమాట one's real opinion. తన మనస్సు వచ్చినపనులు whatever jobs he pleased. ఇట్లుచేయుటకు మనస్సురానందున as (he) could not find it in (his) heart to do this. నా మనస్సున పట్టినది it was impressed on my mind. నాలుగు దినాలు మనస్సుపట్టుకొని (లేక. నిలుపుకొని) ఉండు you must keep yourself quiet or restrain yourself for a short time. మనసరి manas-ari. (మనసు + అరి.) n. A wise man. బుద్ధిమంతుడు. 'క అనయమునిజ ప్రచారం, బనయముగాకుండ నచట నతిశౌర్యమునన్, మనసంయేకేసరియని, మనసరిరాకొమరుమూక మనుమను రీతిన్.' R. i. 123. మనసా manasā. adv. Mentally, in the heart. హృదయములో. మనసార manas-āra. adv. Sincerely, willingly. మనసిజుడు, మనఃప్రభవుడు, మనోజుడు or మనోభవుడు manasijuḍu. n. Lit: The mind-born. An epithet of Manmadha, మన్మథుడు. మనస్కరించు manas-karinṭsu. v. n. To be inclined. మనఃపూర్తిగాచేయు, మనస్సు ఉంచు. In correspondence మనస్కరించేది denotes 'please to consider the above: this is equivalent to 'yours truly.' మనస్కరించి willingly, మనఃపూర్వకముగా. మనస్కారము manas-kāramu. n. Fixed attention, profound meditation. మనఃపూర్తి, మనఃప్రయత్నము, చిత్తపరిపూర్తి. మనస్కుడు mana-skuḍu. adj. 'Minded;' a word used in compounds, thus సన్మనస్కుడు a right minded man, a good hearted man. దుర్మనస్కుడు an evil minded man. ఖిన్నమసస్కుడయి heart-broken. భిన్నమనస్కులయి being of various minds. ప్రసన్నమనస్కులయి light hearted, pleased. మనస్తాపము manas-tāpamu. n. Mental distress, displeasure, anger, vexation. ఆమెకు మనస్తాపముగానున్నది she is annoyed or grieved at this. మనస్ఫూర్తిగా or మనఃపూర్వకముగా manas-phūrti-gā. adv. Willingly. మనస్వి manasvi. adj. Attentive, fixing the mind upon anything. Intelligent. జాగరూకుడు. Goodhearted. మంచి మనస్సుగల. మనోజ్షము manōgnamu. adj. Agreeable, pleasing, captivating, lovely, handsome, మంజులమైన, సుందరమైన. మనోరంజని manō-ranjani. n. (Lit. that which delights the mind.) The name of a certain flower with a rank smell, apparently a sort of arum. మనోరథము manō-rathamu. n. A wish, desire. ఇచ్ఛ. నామనోరథము తమరు త్వరగా నెరవేర్తురని నమ్మియున్నాను I trust that you will soon grant what I so earnestly wish. మనోమలికితము manō-malikitamu. n. Misunderstanding. మనోహరము manō-haramu. adj. Heart-stealing, i.e., charming, lovely, alluring, captivating, fascinating, ఇంపైన. n. Vermicelli.

(p. 954) mannemu or మన్యము mannemu. [from Skt. మాన్యము.] n. Land given as a token of respect. సమ్మానించి యిచ్చిన కొంత భూభాగము. High-lands, hilly land, hill-country, uplands. Agency tracts. మన్నెపుజ్వరము jungle fever. మన్నెపుదేశము highlands. లోమన్యము the interior of the hills. 'అనయంబు రజతాద్రి యట్టి దుర్గంబు మనకు గల్గన నేల మన్నెముల్.' BD. iii. 1093. మన్నెకాడు, మన్నెదొర or మన్నెపుదొర mannckāḍu. n. A highland chieftain. మన్నెపువారు hill people. మన్నెపుగొడ్డలి a broad axe, a woodman's axe, a highlander's axe. మన్నెముల్లు manne-mullu. n. A large needle used to remove thorns from the feet of goats. 'మందులపొడిబుర్ర మన్నెముల్లుతోలుకుళ్లాయి.' H. ii. 85. మన్నెరికము manne-rika-mu. n. A plague, epidemic or pestilence, slaughter, బహుమంది చచ్చే రోగము, మశూచికాదిరోగము, జనక్షయము. మారియుపద్రవము cholera. 'ప్రాణులమారి వచ్చెనని.' G. i. 276. [Tel.] A noun affix. A doer, one who commits. One who is accustomed to. తిప్పలమారి. or కడగండ్లమారి one who troubles or torments. మందులమారి a poisoner. ముండలమారి one who is given to women. మారించు mārinṭsu. v. a. To destroy. నాశముచేయు. 'మారింతుసర్వమున్.' Kuchēlo. iii. 49. మారిమసంగు māri-masaṇgu. v. a. To slaughter, ruin, destroy, వధించు. 'ఒకయెడమార్తురుమేల్కని మార్కొనిన మారిమసంగినట్లు మృత్యుదేవతకెరలిన చాడ్పున.' M. X. i. 174. 'లోమొన, వెలిమొన, ఉసిమొన, ముమ్మొన, చతురమొన, పుణ్యపుమొన, పాపపుమొన, దాటడుగుమొన, కదలుమొన, అరమీటుమొన, నెరమీటుమొన, సరితాళంపుమొన, లాదిగాగల పదిరెండు మొనల వారితెలిసిరి.' H. i. 245. మొనలారిపోయినకత్తి a knife with a blunt point. adj. Last, furthest, utmost. కడపటి. మొనకట్టు mona-kaṭṭu. v. n. To attempt with enthusiasm, ఉత్సహించు. n. Joy, rejoicing, enthusiasam, ఉత్సాహము. An amulet or drug used as a charm, పెట్టుమందులలో నొకటి. ఒకానొక స్తంభనమాలిక. 'ఇదిదారికట్టు మొనకట్టిది, కాంతావశ్యకరణమిది.' S. i. 18. 'జలాగ్నిస్థంభములును, మొనకట్టును వాకట్టును.' H. i. 174. adj. Rejoicing, enthusiastic, ఉత్సాహకరమైన. మొనకాడు or మొనగాడు mona-kāḍu. n. A leader of an army, a hero, a principal; a ringleader, శూరుడు, సేనాధిపతి, ముఖ్యుడు. దొంగలమొనగాడు a ringleader among thieves. మొనకొను Same as మొనయు. (q. v.) మొనచేయు mona-chēyu. v. n. To face or front in battle. మోహరించు. మొనచన్ను mona-tsannu. n. A nipple. Lit the tip of the breast. చూచుకము. మొనతప్పు mona-tappu. v. n. To be turned away as the face, to turn away from, విముఖమగు. 'మొనతప్పితిమి రణమున మన మకట మువ్వురము.' భార. సౌ. i. మొనయు monayu. v. n. and v. a. To be, appear, happen, కలుగు. To busy oneself. to engage in. To prepare, be ready, attempt, పూను, పనిపడు.
