(p. 8) aṇṭu antu. [Tel.] n. Uncleanness, defilement by touch, impurity, such as is caused by the death of a relative, or by touching a lower caste man. Relationship. అంటుది an unclean woman. అంటుపడ్డాడు he was polluted, he became unclean. అంటుగా ఉండేయిల్లు. a house ceremonially polluted. మాకు రేపు అంటు (లేక, మైల) వదులును tomorrow we shall be free from [ceremonial] impurity. వానికనిమాకును మరేమి అంటుసంటు లేదు I have no connection with him. I have nothing to do with him.

(p. 16) amba amba [Skt.] n. Mother; a name of Durga. తల్లి, పార్వతి. అంబాత్రయము = జ్ఞానాంబ, భ్రమరాంబ, మాకాంబ.

(p. 28) accivaccu acchi-vaṭṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To be cheap. To prosper, be advantageous. మేలగు, కలిసివచ్చు. వానికి గుర్రములు అచ్చిరావు he has no luck in horse flesh. ఆ యిల్లు మాకు అచ్చివచ్చినది. we got the house cheap, or we have prospered in that house. See. అచ్చి ఉండు.

(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 44) addikamu addikamu. [Tel.] n. Protection, custody. కావలి, రక్షణము. 'వాటివాటిలోనింతతాటటోటటు చేసి, యటమటించక యుండ బైయద్దికముగ, నేవదిరుగాడువిశ్వాసులెవుడు మాకు జాగిలంబులు సుమ్ముమాసామి కాన.' సా. i.

(p. 44) addu addu. [Tel.] v. a. To press gently. To dip, to print with colours. ముంచు. 'ఇద్ధంబుగా పాలనద్దుము నీటనద్దుము మాకింకనన్యధా లేదు.' BD. v. 319 సిరా అద్దుము blot the ink. కండ్లను అద్దుకొనుము press it to the eyes as a mark of respect. అద్దుముద్దు n. Sport, play. బిడ్డ యొక్క చేష్టలు. ఆ బిడ్డ యొక్క అద్దు ముద్దు చూడక చచ్చినాడు he died without seeing the child play.

(p. 70) abhimukhamu abhi-mukhamu. [Skt.] adj. Fronting, facing, having the face towards. (fig.) Propitious, favourable. Allayed or subdued as disease or anger. సమ్ముఖమైన మార్యాభిముఖముగా facing the sun. నాకు అభిముఖముగా తిరుగు turn your face to me. అభిముఖమగు v. n. To face, turn towards, ఎదురుముఖముగా తిరుగు, దోవకువచ్చు, శాంతపడు. జ్వరము అభిముఖమైనప్పుడు when the fever was on the turn. అభిముఖుడు n. He who faces. సమ్ముఖుడు. మాకు అభిముఖుడై turning towards us. పర్వతాభిముఖుడై పలికెన్. he turned his face towards the mountain and said. BD. iii. 1855.

(p. 76) ayi (past p|| of అగు to become.) Having become, turned into. మాకు అయి నిలిచినాడు he stood like a post., i.e., he has transfixed with surprise &c. దొంగ అయి తిరుగుతున్నాడు he has turned thief. పోకిరి అయిపోయినాడు he has become a wicked fellow. అయిన (past rel. p|| of అగు to become.) Accomplished, becoming, agreeable, suitable. అయినపని a work that is accomplished, a becoming art. అయిన పెండ్లాము a good wife. అయినమందు a suitable medicine. అయినమనిషి a useful or proper man. అయినవాండ్లు friends, relations. See కాని. అయిన is also used to change nouns into adjectives as సొగసైన పిల్ల, ఆశ్చర్యమైన కార్యము a wonderful deed. For other uses, see under ఐన.

(p. 81) arimuri ari-muri. [Tel.] adv. Much, exceedingly, greatly. Quickly, hastily. One after another, repeatedly. అత్యంతము, మిక్కిలి, త్వరగా, శ్రీఘ్రముగా, ఒకటివెంట నొకటి, మాటిమాటికి, ముందువెనుక. 'పౌరుషంబరిమురిగ్రాల పింగళకుడన్మృగరాజు చరించునచ్చటన్.' P. i. 107. అరిమురితనము ari-muri-tanamu. n. Haste, hurry. ఆత్రము. అరిమురిని in haste. ఆత్రపడి 'మరికదాశివునకు మాకునంకంబు, అరిమురితనమిప్పుడదియేలననుచు.' BD. iv. 1747. అరిమురిపడు ari-muri-paḍu. v. i. To hasten. సంభ్రమించు.

(p. 82) arumu or అరము arumu. [Tel.] v. a. To browbeat, to bully, to attack. గద్దించు, గదమాయించు, ఎదిరించు, ఆక్రమించు. 'కయ్యమెల్లను దనమీద బెట్టుకొని లావును బీరము జూపబూని యేపుననరిమెన్ భవద్విశిఖపుంజములన్ దెగటార్పుమీతనిన్.' M. VIII. i. 69. 'అరిమిర మాకు మారుడపుడగ్రతలంబున వచ్చి నిల్చి.' Vasu. iii. 240.

(p. 217) ōza ōza. [Tel.] n. Order క్రమము. Way, manner విధము. Nature స్వభావము. A command ఆజ్ఞ. Vigor, zeal, joy ఉత్సాహము, ఎచ్చరిక. Fear భయము. Thought, idea, intent. Counsel, wisdom, good sense యోచన. In arithmetic, an uneven or odd number. A row, or range. వరుస. A teacher ఉపాధ్యాయుడు. (another form of ఓ౛్జ) 'సింగం బాకటితో గుహాంతరమునం ౛ట్పాటుమైనుండిమా సంతస్ఫూర్జితయూధదర్శనసము ద్యత్రోధమైనవచ్చునో ౛ంగాంతారనివాస భిన్నమతినస్మచ్ఛేనపైవీడవచ్చెన్ గుంతీసుతమధ్యముండుసమరస్థేమాభి రామాకృతిన్.' M. Virāṭa. 93. Like a lion bursting forth in rage. 'ఓ౛గాదిట్లాడనోనీకు' L. vii. 7. 'ఒడలి గుణమువేర యో౛వేర' Vēmana. ఓ౛పడు ōza-paḍu. v. i. To be settled, to be set right క్రమపడు. ఓ౛బంతి or ఓ౛్జబంతి ōzabanti. n. The way shown by the teacher ఉపాధ్యాయుడు చూసిన పద్ధతి. A copy set by him మేలుబంతి.

(p. 248) kammu kammu. [Tel. The sing. imperative of అగు to become.] Be thou: become thou. కృతార్థుడవుకమ్ము may you succeed! సహాయముకమ్ముమాకు be thou our aid, assist us.

(p. 272) kāmāku or గండకామాకు kāmāku. [Tel.] n. A sort of Arum.

(p. 272) kāmākṣi kāmākshi. [Skt.] n. The goddess. of love. కామాక్షిగడ్డి a kind of grass.

(p. 287) ku ku. [Tel. cf. Turkish and Hindustani: కు and కి] To, for. The sign of the Dative case, which when following a final ఇ becomes కి as వానికి, వారికి and elsewhere is కు as మాకు, తోటకు.
