(p. 28) accāḷi or అచ్చాళు aṭṭsāḷi. (K) One who lives a single life, an unmarried person. ఒంటిమనిషి, ఏకాంగిగా మండేవాడు, సంసారపు పీకులాటలేనివాడు అచ్చాళుగానుండు or అచ్చాళిగానుండు to be alone, to be quiet, free from perturbation. 'చారుశిలాముఖ్యజలజలోచనల, చేరికాబంధుల చెలులనీక్షణమె, పగరకుజొరరాక బహుదుర్గమార్గ, మగుకోహళమహర్షి యాశ్రమస్థలిని, జేరిచి మనము నిశ్చింతనేతెంచి, యారూఢిబలయుక్తి నచ్చాళిగాగ, అనికిసన్నద్ధులమై యందమవల.' (p. 68) abrahmaṇyamu a-brahmaṇyamu. [Tel.] n A deed improper to be done by a Brahmin: an unbrahminical or sacrilegious act; an exclamation meaning to the rescue! a heinous sin is about to be committed!' Crying for quarter. మొర, అవధ్యోక్తి, చంపవద్దనేమాట. 'ఈ వృక్షవాటంబులో భామా యేదపమాచరింతువిధిక బ్రహ్మణ్యముంబెట్టుచున్.' Swa. iii. 137. 'బలభిన్ముఖ్యులు పాహిపాహియని యబ్రహ్మణ్యమం బెట్టగన్.' N. ii. 490.

(p. 102) asalu asalu. [H.] adj. Original, principal, excellent, real, genuine, legitimate. మొదటిదైన, ముఖ్యమైన, స్వచ్ఛమైన, సంకరముకాని. అసలుదావా the original complaint. అసలు వాది the original complainant. అసలు బేరీజు the original rents or account. అసలు n. The principal, as opposed to the interest మూలధనము Plu. అసళ్లు originals. అసళ్లు ఉంచుకొని నకళ్లు ఇచ్చినాడు he retained the originals and gave the copies. Also, origin, stock in trade.

(p. 117) ābhimukhyuḍaina ābhi-mukhyuḍaina. [Skt.] adj. Meeting, fronting.

(p. 243) kannāku kannāku. [Tel. కన్ను+ఆకు.] n. The spoke of a spinning wheel, which, being the last put in, keeps the rest all tight. The outside leaf in a bundle of betal leaves. The finishing bit or corner stone; that which keeps all the rest right. A noble or excellent person. రక్షకుడు; ముఖ్యుడు, అగ్రేసరుడు. M. VI. i. 92.

(p. 344) kharvaṭamu kharavaṭamu. [Skt.] n. A hamlet or village. A market town, a country town. పల్లె, పరగణాకు ముఖ్యగ్రామము.

(p. 357) gamiñcu or గమియించు gaminṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To go పోవు. To pass, as time. గమికత్తె gami-katte. n. A woman in waiting, an attendant maid. గమికాడు gami-kāḍu. n. A leader, chief man. అధిపతి, సేనాధిపతి, ముఖ్యజనుడు.

(p. 395) gauṇamu gauṇamu. [Skt.] n. The secondary or figurative meaning of a word. Technicality. ఆ వ్యవహారము గౌణముగా జరిగినది the work went on but so and so, after a fashion. గౌణార్థము gauṇārdhamu. n. Personification అముఖ్యార్థము.

(p. 398) grāmamu grāmamu. [Skt.] n. A village. ఊరు. A scale in music. షడ్జాదిస్వరము. గ్రామత్రయము the three tones, treble, tenor and base. A crowd or multitude సమూహము. as గుణగ్రామము or శబ్దగ్రామము. గ్రామకార్యము grāma-kāryamu. n. Village affairs: worldly matters. గ్రామకంఠము grāma-kanṭhamu. n. The glebe, or pasture land appertaining to a village. గ్రామణి grāmaṇi. n. A chief: a head man. గ్రామాధిపతి. గ్రామణి adj. Chief, head, leading. ముఖ్యుడు నరగ్రామణి, the noblest of men. దుర్గ్రామణి a wicked ruler. గ్రామణ్యము grāmanyamu. n. The rule or headship of a town. Imperiousness, violence, outrage. గ్రామణ్యముగా scoffingly. గ్రామదేవత grāma-dēvata. n. A village god or goddess. These are the original Dravidian deities. Among them the male deities are chiefly these: పోతురాజు, కాట్రేడు, అంకాళు, గంగయ, చెన్నడు and మైలారు. The principal village goddesses are పెద్దమ్మ, కాట్రేణి, అంకాళమ్మ, ఎక్కళమ్మ, ఎల్లమ్మ, మల్లమ్మ, మామిళ్లమ్మ, మైసమ్మ or మైసూరమ్మ, (i. e. మహిషీ.) మారియమ్మ, మారెమ్మ (who probably is meant for 'Maria') యాగాతమ్మ (that is, Saint Agatha,) and సుంకలమ్మ or సుంకెళమ్మ, of whom one inflicts the cholera, another the small pox (see అమ్మవారు) another murrain, another blight. None have any beneficent powers, and they are worshipped to avert their displeasure. గ్రామసింహము grāma-simhamu. n. The lion of the village, i.e., a dog. గ్రామస్థుడు grāma-sthuḍu. n. A villager. స్వగ్రామస్థుడు a fellow citizen or neighbour. గ్రామాంతము grām-āntamu. n. The outlying portion of a village, i.e. the Panchama quarter. మాలపల్లె. గ్రామాదులు grām-ādulu. n. Villages. Lit. Villages, &c. గ్రామ్యము grāmyamu. adj. Village-born; produced in or relating to a village. Vulgar, rude, rustic. Common, colloquial, unclassical, inelegant: The opposite of శాస్త్రీయము. In Grammar the term is applied to conversational forms as వస్తాడు, తెస్తాడు, like they're, I'm, you're, he's, in English, which are supposed to be in admissible in literature, though they occur in all even the best poets. గ్రామ్యధర్మము grāmya-dharmamu. n. Sexual intercourse. సంభోగము. Lit. what is usual or the fashion, or way of the world.

(p. 515) tala tala [Tel.] n. The head. శిరస్సు. The hair on the head. తలవెండ్రుకలు. The top కొన. The front ముందుభాగము. Height ఎత్తు. Whole మొత్తము. An occasion, a time సమయము, ఎడ. Telugu books were usually written on palm-leaves connected by a cord running through: and to tear out a leaf or rescind a bond, the top is torn. Fat-headed, proud, silly. ఇంతపనిచేస్తే వారిలో ఎట్లు తలయెత్తవచ్చును if he did this how could he shew his face among them? తలతో చెల్లించెను he paid for it with his head, it cost him his life. తలకుఎక్కేపని a perilous undertaking. తలకు ఎక్కినది it got into his head, he is intoxicated. తలకొట్టివేయు to decapitate or behead. తల (for తలను) మోయు to carry on the head. శిరసావహించు. The final ల్లి is the sign of the honorific plural and is doubled on account of the preceding long vowel having been shortened. √ త = she who brings (into existence) or who brings food, &c., cf. తండ్రి.] n. A mother. కన్నతల్లి one's own mother, as opposed to సవతితల్లి a stepmother. In affectionate address తల్లీ 'my dear,' is used even to a daughter. adj. Maternal, parent. తల్లిపశువు the parent cow. తల్లియింటనున్నది she lives in her mother's home. Principal, great, chief, main. తల్లినర or తల్లియొర the parapet wall round a well. తల్లికాలవ the principal channel which supplies others. తల్లిగోడ the principal wall in a house. మీరే మాకు తల్లిదండ్రులు you are my father and mother, you are all in all to me. See under తలి. తల్లికొండ్ర talli-konḍra. The first furrow in ploughing మొదటి కొండ్ర. తల్లితల్లి talli-talli. n. A mother's mother, i.e., Lakshmi. తల్లినికనినతల్లి.
