(p. 816) pōka pōka. [Tel.] n. The areca or betel-nut-palm, Areca catechu, (Watts). An areca nut. పోకంతయన్నము a morsel of food 'అనుచు, పోకలకుండ చట్రాతిమీద పగుల వేయుచు' Kanyaka Pur. viii. 266. So saying she hurled a jar full of nuts down on the floor. 'నిజముపోకయు నీకుమేమీము.' HD. i. 1527. పోకగంజి pōka-ganji. n. The Catechu. Terra japonica, కాచ. పోకపేరు pōka-pēru. n. A kind of cake, భక్ష్యవిశషము. పోకబంతివువ్యు pōka-banti-puvvu. n. The flower called Bachelor's button. పోకముడి pōka-muḍi. n. The knot that secures a woman's petticoat at the girdle. పోక ముడిసడలించె she unloosed her petticoat. పోకొత్తు pōk-ottu. (పోక+ఒత్తు.) n. Nippers for breaking the betel nut. అడకొత్తు.

(p. 953) mannana or మన్నిక mannana. [Tel.] n. Respect, regard, grace, favour, సమ్మానము, గౌరవము, గొప్పచేయడము. 'మనుజనాధునివలన మన్ననలుగనిరి.' V. P. ii. 18. adj. Dear, beloved. ప్రియమైన. 'పాలవెల్లికిన్ మన్నన యన్నునైతిపసిమంతనపుం దెరయైన తొయ్యలిన్.' R. v. 17. మన్నించు manninṭsu. v. a. To respect, మన్ననచేయు, గొప్పచేయు, సమ్మానించు. To excuse, forgive, to pardon. నా తప్పు మన్నించవలెను I pray you to excuse my fault. మన్నింపు mannimpu. n. Respect. గౌరవము. Forgiveness, క్షమాపణ. వానికి దెబ్బలు మన్నింపుచేసినారు they excused him the flogging, i.e., he was not punished.

(p. 1014) mūkonu mū-konu. [Tel. మూకు or ముక్కు + కొను.] v. n. To smell, to scent. వాసన చూచు. To abscond, to hide oneself. దాగు. 'మలిదేవుమన్నన మట్టాయెగనుక, మూకొనినేటికి మూణ్నెల్లువెళ్లె, ఏడబోయిరో యెరుగనో యన్న.' Pal. 322.

(p. 1021) meṭṭu meṭṭu. [Tel.] v. a. &n. To step, walk, tread. అడుగుపెట్టు, నడుచు, త్రొక్కు. 'మెల్ల మెల్లన మెట్టుచుదొలగి అల్లనల్లనతలుపులండకు జేరి.' BD iv. 1523. To tread on, to trample on. To kick, to thrust with the foot. To wear, as sandals. తొక్కు, కాలితోతన్ను, పాదుకలు వేసికొను. 'ఏయేతీర్థములందు గ్రుంకిడితి రేయేద్వీపముల్ మెట్టినారు.' Swa. i. 26. To lead to make one walk, to cause to be trampled. To suggest, to stir the mind. నడిపించు, తొక్కించు. To kill, చంపు. 'మింటన్ మ్రోసినమ్రోత తాలిమిని లో మెట్టింపమున్నీపునా యింటన్ బుట్టెదవంచుకంసుడుతొడిన్ హింసించె నీయన్నలన్.' B. X. 102. మెట్టిక meṭṭika. n. A step , మెట్టు, సోపానము. See also మెటిక. మెట్టిమల్లాడు meṭṭi-mall-āḍu. v. a. To trample down or all over, to ruin, హతముచేయు, ధ్వంసముచేయు. 'కర్మంబుల కట్టడలకులోనుగాక మాయలనుమెట్టి మల్లాడి నిర్మలలింగసేవ నెట్టిభక్తిఘటించు.' L. xvi. 229. మెట్టుకు meṭṭu-ku. adv. On the whole, altogether. In fact, in all, at the most, at least, at any rate. In short, at the best or worst, once for all, finally, at last, in the end, after all, withal, yet still. తుదకు. మెట్టుకుపోయినాడు of course he is gone. మెట్టిల్లు (మెట్టిన + ఇల్లు) the mother-in-law's house, ఆడుదాని అత్తగారిల్లు. మెట్టుబ్రాలు sacred rice, తలబ్రాలు.

(p. 1037) moguḍu moguḍu. [Tel. from మొగడ. See మొగ్గ.] v. n. To be closed, as a flower, the hands, etc. ముకుళితమగు. మొగుచు, మొగుడుచు, మొగుడ్చు, or మొగిడించు moguṭsu. v. a. To cause to be closed, as a flower, &c. To close, shut (the eyes), fold (the hands.) ముకుళించు. 'సాష్టాంగదండ ప్రణామంబుచేసి నిలిచి కరంబులు మొగిచి.' Vish. ii. 72. 'చనిమంత్రు లెల్ల హస్తములు మొగిడ్చి యన్నరనాధు నకంతయుదెలుప.' Sar. D. 283. 'కేల్మొగిడించిభక్తి నమస్కరించి.' Parama Yōgi Vilāsa. Dwip: page 238.

(p. 1127) vadine or వదినియ vadine. [Tel.] n. An elder brother's wife. అన్నభార్య. The daughter of a mother's brother or of a father's sister, if older than one's self. తనకంటె పెద్దదైన మేనత్త మేనమామల కూతురు. The elder sister of a wife or husband. మొగుడి అక్క లేక పెండ్లానికి అక్క. మీయన్నయు వదినెయు your elder brother and his wife. వాడవదినె a prostitute, which Shakespeare also calls an 'aunt.' వేశ్య. 'వాడవదినెకేల వావివర్తనములు చాడిగానికేల జాడబుద్ధి, మూఢమతులకేలమదముతో జ్ఞానంబు.' Vema. 1689.

(p. 1165) vikṛtamu vikṛitamu. [Skt. from వికారము.] adj. Changed, altered, transformed. Imperfect, deformed, fried. వికారమైన, విరూపమైన, విజాతీయమైన, వికలాంగమైన. 'వివిధ పాపాత్ములు వికృతశరీరులై యాతనాబాధితులగుటమానె.' M. XVIII. i. 39. 'పరువడి వికృతరూపముననయోధ్యకరిగి.' ND. iv. 496. వకృతి vikṛiti. n. Change, transformation, metamorphosis; distortion, depravity. వికారము, కించిత్ప్రకృత్యన్యధాభావము, వికాసక్షోభవిక్షేపమనోజాత వికారము. In grammatical treatises this name is applied to the Telugu language, as distinguished from అద్యప్రకృతి the Sanskrit. 'వికృతి బాసిన నాకువేషమేమిటికి.' L. xvii. 64. The name of a Telugu year.

(p. 1184) viravāyu vira-vāyu. [Tel. విర+పాయు.] v. n. To separate, part, divide. వ్రీలు, పాయలగు. విరవారు vira-vāru. (విర+పారు) v. n. To fly dispersedly. చెదరిపోవు. 'భీతిమాయన్నలవిరవారిపోయి, బతిమాలిరణము లోబారవేచెవునమ.' Pal. 15. విరవిర viravira. n. Blossoming, విరియుట. Kicking about spasmodically. Paleness. విరవిరపోవు or విరవిరమను vira-vira-pōru. v. n. To turn pale, to be faint, to be convulsed. To be heated. వెలవెలబోవు, కాళ్లుచేతులుతీయు, చచ్చిపోవు, ఎండతీక్ష్ణముచేత దేహము విరవిరలాడు. 'పిడుగువిధమునపడు నైత్తివ్రేసెవ్రేయుటయు, వెసగాళ్లుచేతులు విరవిరబోవ, వశముగాకిలమీద వ్రాలంగనపుడు.' DRU. 1024.

(p. 1253) śiṣyuḍu ṣishyuḍu. [Skt.] n. A disciple, pupil, scholar. విద్యాభ్యాసముచేయువాడు. శిష్యార్జన the fees given to a spiritual guide. గురుశష్యన్యాయము the proper behaviour of a disciple towards his master, docility. ఆయనకు శిష్యసంపత్తికలదు he has many followers. శిష్యసంచారము a tour among one's pupils, a journey through the villages where one's disciples live.

(p. 1309) sari sari. [from Skt. సదృశః.] n. The end. అంతము. Similarity, likeness. సామ్యము, సమానము, సమము. Propriety, fitness, యుక్తము. [From Skt. సరః.] n. A garland, wreath. హారము. See also సరియ. ఆ వంశము ఇతనతో సరి that family terminates with him. సరిలేని మాణిక్యము a matchless gem. పెలసరికి at the end of the month. నెలసరికి up to that day. నీకు నాకు సరి there is an end of everything between us. సరికాని వారు those who are not equals. 'సరికాని వారితో సరసమాడెడువాని.' (Kālahas. §. 66.) he who takes liberties with such as are not his equals. సరికానిపని improper behaviour or conduct. సరికిసరి tit for tat. గోధుములు బియ్యానికి గోధుములు బియ్యానికి సరికిసరి ఇస్తారు they barter wheat for an equal quantity of rice.సరికిసరి చేసినాడు he repaid them according to what they had done. సరి. adj. Equal, like. సమము, ఈడైన. Just, right, proper, fit, correct, suitable, యుక్తమైన, తగిన, Corresponding to. Even, level, not odd, మిట్టపల్లములులేని. Ended, finished, సమాప్తము. అతనికి సరిలేడు he has no equal. రాత్రి అయినా సరే పగలు అయినా సరే be it day or be it night. ఇది సరికాదు this is not right. ఈ ఉత్సవము నేటితో సరి this feast is finished with this day. adv. Equally. సమానముగా, సరిగా. Fully, పూర్ణముగా. 'జలధి తోజలధియు సరిబోరుకరణి.' DRY. 2224. 'సరిబల్కుమని యదల్చు.' T. iii. 143. సరి (interj.) Well! Yes! very well! very good! Aha! Aha! Oh! బాగాయె; అంగీకారార్థము. సరికట్టు sari-kaṭṭu. v. n. To be equal or similar. దృష్టాంమగు. v. a. To attempt, యత్నించు. See సరిపడు below. సరికడచు sari-kaḍaṭsu. v. n. To exceed, excel. ముందుమించు, మీరు, అతిక్రమించు. సరిగా sari-gā. adv. Equally, abreast, properly, rightly, correctly, in good order, completely, fully. సమముగా, ౛తగా, ౛ోడుగా, యుక్తముగా, న్యాయముగా, క్రమముగా, సంపూర్ణముగా, ఆ రెండు పల్లకీలు సరిగా వచ్చుచుండెను the two palanquins were coming on abreast. సరిగెఅల్పులు sari-gelpulu. n. Quits (at dice or games), సమానమైన జయములు. సరిగొను sari-gonu. v. a. To resemble. సమానమగు. To kill, destroy. చంపు, రూపుమాపు. M. VII. iv. 277. సీ సరియన్న విరిపొన్న సరిగొన్నగరిమచేగంభీ రమగునాభిగాంచుదాని.' T. iv. 62. సరిచేయు ari-chēyu. v. a. To arrange or put in order, to put straight, to level or make even. To complete, end or finish. To equalize, క్రమపరచు, వంకర లేకుండా చేయు, మిట్టపల్లములు లేకుండా చేయు, ముగించు, సమానము చేయు. To ruin, నాశముచేయు, సరిచూచు sari-ṭsūṭsu. v. a. To compare, review, collate. సంప్రతించు, సరిగానుండజూచు. సరితూగు sari-tūgu. v. a. To counterbalance, to be equal in weight, to be equal. సమానమగు. సరిపడు, సరితాకు or సరికట్టు sari-paḍu. v. n. To be equal, fit, suit, agree. To be on good terms. To equalize, సమముచేయు. To finish, end, complete, consume. ముగించు, కాజేయు, కార్యాంతముచేయు. సరిపోవు sari-pōvu. v. n. To be equal, become equal, సమానమగు. To fit, suit, agree. To be finished or terminated. To be expended, spent. To be ruined, or destroyed, అయిపోవు, వ్యయమైపోవు, నశించు. To be reconciled, సమాధానమగు. A. vi. 90. నోటికి సరిపోయినట్టు మాట్లాడినాడు he said everything that came to his tongue. అవి నీకు సరిపోతవవి these will suit you. నీవు తిట్టినదానికిని నేను కొట్టినదానికని సరిపోయినవి the blows I have given are a fair payment for your abuse. ఆ బియ్యము ఆ తపేలాకు సరిపోయినవి the rice was just enough to fill the vessel. సరిపొద్దు or సరిప్రొద్దు sari-poddu. n. Midnight, అర్థరాత్రి. P. iii. 45. సరిబిత్తరము sari-bittaramu. n. A kind of wrestling. మల్ల బంధవిశేషము. సరిబేసులు sari-bēsulu. n. A kind of game played by boys, పిల్లకాయలు ఆడే ఒక ఆట. 'గుళ్లుదాగుడుముచ్చిళ్లు గోలిపెట్టెలేలపాటలు, సరిబేసు లీలకూతలాదిగాశైశవక్రీడలాడి.' Vish. vii. 212. సరియగు sari-y-agu. v. n. To become equal, సమానమగు, to be destroyed, నశించు. సరియైన sari-y-aina. adj.
