(p. 12) antarlāpi antarlāpi. [Skt.] n. A kind of puzzle, riddle or question which contains the solution or answer in itself. విడికథవలె అతికఠినమైన ప్రశ్నలు ఉత్తరములుగా మండేటిది. e.g. క' శ్రీకాంతునిదినమెన్నఁడు రాకొమరునికెద్ది ప్రియము రథతిథియెన్నం డేకొలదినన్నమరుంగును ఏకాదశినాఁడు సప్తమేడేగడియల్. ' శ్లో' కాశంభుకాంతాకిముచంద్రకాంతం, కాంతాముఖంకింకురుతేభుజంగః, కశ్శ్రీపతిఃకావిషమాసమస్యా, గౌరీముఖంచుంబతివాసుదేవః. '

(p. 642) nāḍu nāḍu. [Tel.] n. A day. Time. That day, ఆనాడు. That time, ఆకాలము చిన్ననాడు when he was young, in infancy. ఒకనాటికీ వినడు he will never consent. ఆనాడు at that time. తాతనాడు in my grand-father's time. నాటినుండి since that time. తండ్రినాటనుంచి from the time of his father. సంవత్సరమునాటికి చెల్లించే రూకలు the money payable at the end of the year. నాటివారు the people of that time. నాటిపుస్తకము the book of those times. అది యెన్నాళ్లనాడు how long ago was it? నాలుగేండ్లనాడు four years back. నాటికి on that day, by that time, to that day. నాడే oh I dare say! to be sure! నాటిపని the matter you wot of, you know what I mean. ఇది శానా దినములనాటిది this is very ancient. నానాడు nā-nāḍu. adv. Day by day, now and then. నానాటికి nā-nāṭiki. adv. Day by day, by degrees.

(p. 731) pasupu or పసపు pasupu. [Tel.] n. Indian saffron or turmeric. Curcuma longa. Rox. i. 32. హరిద్ర. కూరపసుపు turmeric used as a spice. అడవిపసుపు the wild species. Rox. i. 23. చాయపసుపు the species used as a yellow dye. నీలిపసుపు another species, Cūrcuma cœsia, Rox. i. 26. మానుపుసుపు (or కుసంభల.) Safflower, Carthamus tinctorius. W. పసుపుటాకులు turmeric leaves. పసుపాడు to use turmeric (by smearing it over the body), that is, to bathe. A. i. 63. and v. 41. ఎండపసపు or పసుపెండ golden sunshine. అనగా నీరెండచేత గలిగిన పసిమి. A. vi. 75. ఆమె పసుపుకుంకుమ యెన్నటికిని పోదు lit: She will never lose her turmeric and red paint, i.e., she will never become a window. పసుపుకుంకుమ a phrase for pin money, or dower, because it is money given to a bride, nominally to supply her with yellow and red paint for the forehead. పసుపు కుంకుమముపుచ్చుకొను to ratify a marriage by accepting these on behalf of the bride. పసుపు చాయ pasupu-ṭsāya. n. Yellow colour. పసుపుపిట్ట or పసుపుముద్ద n. Lit. The saffron bird. The Baya, or Weaver bird, Ploceus baya. (F.B.I.) గిజిగాడు.

(p. 945) maḍugu, maḍuvu, maḍgu or మడ్వు maḍugu. [Tel.] v. n. To be kept down, అడగు. To be bent, వంగు, n. A proportion, ratio, గుణము. దీనికంటె అది యెన్ని మడుగులు హెచ్చు how many times is it larger than this? A basin, pond, lake, a deep or hollow place, a hole or pool in the bed of a river or tank. నదీమధ్యమందున్నహ్రదము, కొలను. A clean cloth. ధౌతవస్త్రము. Purity, శుచి, పరిశుద్ధి. A weight of eight viss, మణుగు. Humility, submissiveness, suppression of the desires, moderation. అడకువ, ఉపశాంతి. A fold of a leaf, ఆకుమడుపు. adj. Pure, పరిశుద్ధము. 'నిండారకమ్మదేనియ మజ్జనంబాడె, కడమపుప్పొడివన్నె మడుగుకట్టె.' P. iv. 243. అక్కడ నెత్తురు మడుగు కట్టియుండినది the blood was standing in pools. మడుచు maḍuṭsu. v. a. To fold, plait, bend, crease, clasp. To shut, or close (as a book.) మడుగజేయు. See మడగు. కాలు మడుచు lit. to sit down to pass water. మడుపు maḍupu. n. A fold or plait, మడత. A fold of betel leaf, ఆకుచుట్ట. Clean linen fresh from washing, మడుగువస్త్రము. 'మఠమునకేతెంచి మడుపులన్నియును కఠినముల్ గాకుండ ఘట్టించిమడువ.' BD. iv. 35. మడుపుకత్తి maḍupu-katti. n. A folding or clasp knife.

(p. 987) minna minna. [Tel.] n. A gem, a jewel. రత్నము. That which is noble or preminent. మేటి, శ్రేష్ఠము, తల్లజము. 'కొణిదెకాపులు మొదలైనక్షోణిదనరు, కాపులకునెల్ల మిన్నయక్కాపుకొడుకు.' H. iv. 171. 'లేత తమ్మిపూదూండ్లకు మిన్నయెన్నజిగిదొల్కెడుచేతులు.' ib. i. 64. adj. Noble, superior, high. శ్రేష్ఠమైన, పొడుగైన. 'ముందు వేరొక్క తెమిన్న సొమ్ములిడ.' N. ix. 417.

(p. 1047) mōmu mōmu. [From Skt. ముఖము; and another form of మొగము.] n. The face, or countenance. 'మోమరసేయువాడు మరముక్కిని గాంచునె యెన్ని భంగులన్.' Vēma. 1465. వాని మోము చిన్నపోయినది he was abashed, his countenance fell. See ముగము. మోమోడు mōm-ōḍu. (మోము + ఓడు.) v. n. To yield, fall into temptation: to comply wrongly, దాక్షిణ్యపడు. 'ఏచందంబునంచల్పి పొమ్మను మోమోడక యంచనున్ బతిని బాయన్ జసితే దైవమా.' URK. vi. 384. మోమోట or మోమోటము Same as మొగమోటము. See under మొగము.

(p. 1101) lātamu. lātāmu or లాతపుకోల lātamu. [Tel.] n. A stick, staff, rod, a hermit's staff. దండము, సన్యాసిచేతిదండము, చేతిచువ్వ, వంకరకోల. 'కకపాలకేదార కటకము ద్రితపాణి కురుచలాతముతోడ గూర్చిపట్టి.' Swa. i. 15. 'ఈబలపవుంగొడువుననిలపైవలసిన యెన్నిలెక్కలొండె రేఖలొండె వ్రాసియీ లాతపుంగోలసవ్యహస్తంబునంబట్టి ముట్టించిననన్ని యునీవుతలంచిన ప్రాణులై.' G. viii. 116.
