(p. 1) a a. 7. [Tel.] A suffix meaning 'By oneself without the help of another'. సర్వమును నీవ యెరుగుదువు. Or, without a rival, e. g., 'శత్రుక్షయంబు చేసి యెవ్వరికి నీక తామ యేలు చుండెమనియెడి మోహంబున.' భాగ. xii 18.

(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 79) arapa arapa. [Tel.] n. A temporary scaffold in a field. మంచె. 'క్రచ్ఛరనీనంగగాచినక్కలకు, నిచ్చినయట్లయ్యె నీడితకీర్తి, మరియేలువేయును నెరయు బండించి, యరపడిగ్గినయట్టు లయ్యె నుర్వీశ.' BD. vii. 619.

(p. 81) arimuri ari-muri. [Tel.] adv. Much, exceedingly, greatly. Quickly, hastily. One after another, repeatedly. అత్యంతము, మిక్కిలి, త్వరగా, శ్రీఘ్రముగా, ఒకటివెంట నొకటి, మాటిమాటికి, ముందువెనుక. 'పౌరుషంబరిమురిగ్రాల పింగళకుడన్మృగరాజు చరించునచ్చటన్.' P. i. 107. అరిమురితనము ari-muri-tanamu. n. Haste, hurry. ఆత్రము. అరిమురిని in haste. ఆత్రపడి 'మరికదాశివునకు మాకునంకంబు, అరిమురితనమిప్పుడదియేలననుచు.' BD. iv. 1747. అరిమురిపడు ari-muri-paḍu. v. i. To hasten. సంభ్రమించు.

(p. 135) iṭṭalamu iṭṭatamu. [Tel.] adj. Vast, huge, great, abundant. గొప్ప, తరుచు, అధికము, విస్తారము. ఇట్టులముగ or ఇట్టులమున iṭṭulam-u-ga. Vastly, greatly. 'అట్టిదియేలపుట్టునమరాధిప నీవు జగత్ప్రభుండవై యిట్టలమైన తేజము వహించి సుఖంబుననుండు.' M. III. v. 241.

(p. 201) ēlise ēlise. [Tel.] n. The common quail. కొక్కెరయేలిసె the large quail.

(p. 202) ēlu ēlu. [Tel.] v. i. & t. To rule, govern. manage. To enjoy, to master. To possess or take. పరిగ్రహించు, పాలించు. ఏలించు ēlinṭsu. v. t. To cause one to rule. నిన్ను మాచెర్ల యేలింతును I will make you ruler of Mācherla. ఏలినవాడు ēlina-vāḍu. n. A ruler, lord, your honor. ఏలిక, రాజు, స్వామి. ఏలుకోటి ēlu-kōti. n. The people, subjects. Host assembly. ప్రజాకోటి. సకలమైనవారు. ఏలుబడి ēlu-baḍi. n. Government, reign. ఏలేవారు or ఏలువారు ēlē-vāru. n. The rulers. ఏలుకొను = ఏలు.

(p. 500) tagavu tagavu. [Tel. from తగు.] n. Justice, virtue, uprightness. ధర్మము, న్యాయము. Also, presents given to a daughter by her parents when she is married. A dispute జగడము. A lawsuit వ్యాజ్యెము. 'క తనుమాలు ధర్మమేలా తనగురు తెరుగంగలేనితనువదియేలా తనబుద్ధిగానిదేలా తనతనకేగాకయున్న తగవియేలా. ' (Rama Stava Rajam viii. 203, 188.) తగవుగోరి a peacemaker. సంధిచేయువాడు. తగవరి tagavari. [తగవు+అరి.] n. A judge or arbitrator. న్యాయాధిపతి. తగవేది tagav-ēdi. [తగవు+ఏది.] n. Sacrificing justice, unjust, wicked. తగవుమాలి. M. IV. ii. 40 and 193.

(p. 735) pāḍu pāḍu. [Tel.] v. a. To sing. గానము చేయు. Also, to sell or to bid at an auction. పాడించు paḍinṭsu. (Causal of పాడు.) v. a. To have something sung. To proclaim, sell by auction. నా ఆస్తి యేలము పాడించిరి they sold my property by auction.

(p. 1025) merika or మెరికె merika. [Tel.] n. Grits, that which remains in the sieve after sifting; the finest and hardest particles which resist the pestle. మెదగకనిలిచిన ధాన్యము. మెరికబియ్యము the rice which in pounding resists the pestle, పొట్ట వీడీవీడనిబియ్యము. మెరికలవంటివాడు a man of grit, a choice favoirite. మెరికలవంటిమాటలు choice phrases. ఈ గ్రంథము రత్నాలమెరికలు this book is a perfect gem, a galaxy of beauties. మెరియడు meriyaḍu. n. A steady man, చలింపనివాడు మెరియత meriyata. n. A steady woman, చలింపనిది. A victress, heroine, she who escapes with impunity. 'క నీవిచ్చోమెరియతవై, కావర మునవలసినట్లుగయ్యాళింపన్, గావెరచిపేదమొరగా, నేవీరినివారిదగిలి యేలవచింతున్.' K. iii. 243.

(p. 1031) mēlu mēlu. [Tel.] n. Good, kindness. ఉపకారము. Good fortune, prosperity, favour, happiness, క్షేమము, శుభము. Profit, advantage, లాభము. Righteousness, పుణ్యము, సుకృతము. Excellence, superiority, విశేషము. Love, మోహము. Pride, మదము. 'చదువుల మేలులేదొ.' P. iv. 119. అక్కడికి పోతే మేలు it would be better to go there. అదేమేలు so much the better. మేలెరుగు to be grateful, remember kindness. కీడుమేలు తెలిసినవాడు one who knows good and evil. 'మేలుకలిగేవాడు in time of prosperity. 'తత్సుతశతకంబుకంటె నొక సూనృత వాక్యము మేలుభూవరా.' Bhārat మేలు or మేలి adj. Upper, higher. ఉపరి, అధికము, పై. Good, better. Noble, fine, excellent, superior, శుభమైన, శ్రేష్ఠమైన. మేలుమిద్దె an upper storey. 'లోపలియంతస్తులోని మేల్మిద్దె.' Sārang. D. 113. మేలుగోడ the top wall, battlement, parapet or rail wall. మేలుముసుకు the outer cover. మేలుమాట or మేలువార్త happy news. adv. Up, above, over, మేలు or మేలుమేలు interj. Well done! excellent! better and better! జయ, జయ జయ. మేలుకట్టు mēli-kaṭṭu. n. An awning, a canopy. వితానము. 'మేలిమిమీరగా మేలుకట్టులుగట్టు, రమణీయ చీనాంబరములుగట్టి.' N. ix. 124. మేలుకమ్మిచీర mēlu-kammi-chīra. n. A cotton cloth woven with a coloured border three inches broad. మేలుచెయ్యి mēlu-cheyyi. n. Superiority. హెచ్చు, ఆధిక్యము. adj. Superior, హెచ్చైన. 'ఎవ్వనిచూచి మేలుపడితే యరవింద దళాక్షి.' Vijaya. iii. 37. మేలుబంతి mēlu-banti. n. The top line, the copy set to a schoolboy learning to write. A pattern, మాదిరి. One who is or sets an example; a paragon of excellence, an example, ఉదాహరణము. adj. Excellent, శ్రేష్ఠము, శ్రేష్ఠుడు, శ్రేష్ఠురాలు. 'మేదినీనాధులకునెల్ల మేలుబంతిగా బ్రవర్తింపకేల, దుష్కర్మివైతి.' Vish. ii. 116. 'నిజచరిత్రంబు భావిబూభుజులకెల్ల మేలుబంతిగవసుమతియేలుచుండె.' ib. vi. 63. మేలలుమచ్చు mēlu-maṭsṭsu. n. An upper storey, చంద్రశాల. మేలుమచ్చులు a kind of game played by boys. మేలురాసి mēlu rāṣi. n. The top part of a heap of winnowed grain. తూర్పెత్తిన ధాన్యపుసోగు. మేలువాడు mēlu-vāḍu. n. A lover, విటుడు, వలపుకాడు, మంచివాడు. 'అంతరాధకుమేలు వాడైమురారి.' A. v. 56.

(p. 1069) rā rā. [Tel. Short for రమ్ము.] A particle expressive of contempt, disrespect or familiarity (in poems ర, as in Swa. iii. 128. 'ఏలరయీచలంబుడిగియేలర, బాలరసాల మాలతీ జాలములో.') 'రారానందకుమారక రారానవనీతచోర రారాకృష్నారారారాఝులయేలిక.' అట్లు చేయుము రా come, you must do this? వాణ్ని పిలువురా call him, will you? దానిని తేరా come, bring it here. పోరా come, begone.

(p. 1100) lāgu lāgu. [Tel.] v. a. &n. To pull, haul, drag, draw. ఈడ్చు. వాడు ప్రాణము విడుచునప్పుడు వానికాళ్లుచేతులు లాగినవి in dying his arms and legs were drawn up, or were contracted. n. Attraction, ఆకర్షించడము. Consent, సమ్మతి. Manner, విధము. A summer sault, leap, లంఘనము. Short drawers, reaching only to the middle of the thigh. చల్లడము. లాగించు lāginṭsu. v. a. To cause to pull or drag, లాగునట్లుచేయు. లాగుకొను lāgu-konu. v. a. To take by force, seize. బలాత్కారముగా తీసుకొను, అపహరించుకొను. లాగుబడి lāgu-baḍi. n. Expense, cost. లాగులాడు lāgul-āḍu. v. n. To struggle, పెనగులాడు. లాగు or లాగున lāgu. adv. Like, as, రీతిగా, విధముగా, వలె. 'వెలయుహరిశ్చంద్రువిధమున, నలునివీకను, పురకుత్సుచాడ్పున, పురూరవునిలీల. సగరులాగున. కార్తవీర్యు మర్యాదగను. గయునిక్రియ.' H. i. 42. ఏలాగుననున్నది how is it, in what fashion is it? ఈలాగున in this way. అలాగున in that manner? అతడు చెప్పిన లాగున according to what he said? అది అయ్యేలాగున చేయవలసినది you must manage to get this done. మాకు అందేలాగు so that it may reach us. మొద్దులాగు నిలిచినాడు he stood stock still. వాని ముఖములాగు ఉండెను it looked like his face. ఇట్లు చేసేలాగున చెప్పుము tell him to do so.
