(p. 5) aṅgarakṣa anga-raksha. [Skt.] n. A charm for self preservation. అంగరక్షకులు [Skt.] n. plu. Guards, attendants. అంగరక్షణి a body protector, cost of mail.

(p. 21) akṣaramu aksharamu. [Skt. lit Eternal. imperishable.] n. A letter, a single syllable, a character of the alphabet, hand writing. A single syllable, whether of one letter or more. Thus the word సంస్కృతం Sam-skru-tam is termed a word of three letters. ఏకాక్షరము a monosyllable. సంయుక్తాక్షరము two or more letters united in one syllable, as స్త్రీ wherein four letters are united. త్య్రక్షరి try-ak-shari; the sacred or mystic syllable (ఓం AUM, or O'M a name of the Deity) that contains three letters. అక్షరజ్ఞుడు a man of letters. అక్షరాభ్యాసము beginning to learn the alphabet or the first principles of a language; మంత్రాక్షరము a cypher of syllable used in magic. ఇది ఆయన అక్షరము కాదు this is not his handwriting. నీవద్ద అప్పుగా తీసుకొన్న రూ 300 అక్షరాల మున్నూరు రూపాయీలు i.e., 'Rs. 300 (three hundred Rupees.)' here the same sum is denoted in writing as well as in figures. వాడు నిరక్షరకుక్షి he is an illiterate man. వానికి నోట్లో అక్షరాలు లేచియున్నవి his mouth is inflammed. అక్షరవిన్యాసము, the array of letters, writing.

(p. 36) aḍiyaḍu aḍiyaḍu. [Tel. from అడుగు+అడు. Lit. foot servant.] n. A Servant. పాదసేవకుడు. సీ. 'దండంబుదర్పితోద్దండరక్షో హర్త కడియండ జాతరూపాంబరునకు.' రుక్మాం. 1. ఆ.

(p. 44) addikamu addikamu. [Tel.] n. Protection, custody. కావలి, రక్షణము. 'వాటివాటిలోనింతతాటటోటటు చేసి, యటమటించక యుండ బైయద్దికముగ, నేవదిరుగాడువిశ్వాసులెవుడు మాకు జాగిలంబులు సుమ్ముమాసామి కాన.' సా. i.

(p. 70) abhimānamu abhi-mānamu. [Skt.] n. Pride, self-esteem, haughtiness Patronage, protection. Affection, regard, care, love, favour. గర్వము, సంరక్షణ, విశ్వాసము, దేశాభిమానము love of one's own country, patriotism. వాడు దేహాభిమానము కలవాడు he pays great attention to his own ease. he is luxurious. అభిమానపుత్రుడు one who passes for one's son, or is looked upon as a son, or, supposed to be his child. అభిమానపుత్రత్వము an understood or attribute sonship. తమ అభిమానము కావలసినది I beg your patronage. నా యందు నిండా అభిమానముగా జరిగించినాడు he has treated me honourably. ఒకని మీద అభిమానము ఉంచు to be partial to a person. అభిమానము లేనివాడు one without affection; unkind అభిమాని n. He who loves. విశ్వాసము గలవాడు. మతాభిమాని a bigot. కులాభిమాని one who stands up for his caste. దేశాభిమాని the advocate for his country, he who loves his country, a patriot. అభిమానించు v. a. To honor, favour, protect, patronise, regard with kindness. గొప్ప చేయు, గౌరవించు.

(p. 70) abhirakṣitamu abhi-rakshitamu. [Skt.] adj. Protected, guarded.

(p. 91) alluḍu alluḍu. [Tel. from అల్లు lit. one who plaits, i.e., who is the means by which the family circle is enlarged.] n. A son-in-law. జామాత, మేనల్లుడు the son of a man's sister, or of a woman's brother. అల్లుడుకొమాళ్లు n. plu. Foster brothers or vassals, who feed at the baron's table and form his body-guard. దొరతోదొరగా భోజనము చేసి అతనికి అంగరక్షకులుగా నుండేవారు. అల్లువాడు n. A son-in-law. అల్లుడు, జామాత. 'అల్లువాని మృతికి నాత్మజింతించును, తనయు మృతికి దానె తలచుచుండు, పుణ్యపురుషు మృతికి భూలోకజనులకు నుర్వి క్రుంగినట్టులుండు.' Vema. 1288.

(p. 94) avanamu avanamu. [Skt.] n. Preservation, protection, rescue. రక్షణము. 'గజప్రాణావమోత్సాహి' one who hastens to save the life of the elephant.

(p. 120) ārakṣuḍu ā-rakshuḍu. [Skt.] n. A watchman. తలారివాడు.

(p. 123) ārti ārti. [Skt.] n. Distress, pain, affliction. దుఃఖము. ఆర్తుడు ārtuḍu. n. A sorrowful or afflicted man. ఆర్తరక్షకుడు a reliever of the distressed. ఆర్తకారి he who bewails or laments P. vi. 84. మదనార్తుడై amorous.

(p. 148) ukkaṇamu ukkaṇamu. [Tel.] n. A watch, guard. కావలి, రక్షణము.

(p. 155) uttariñcu uttarinṭsu. [Tel.] v. a. To cross or pass over. To amputate: to divide cloth into separate pieces, to refund, repay, restore. ఉత్తారకుడు uttārakuḍu. n. One who helps one to cross. A saviour, a deliverer. దాటించువాడు; రక్షకుడు.

(p. 158) uddamu uddamu. [Tel.] n. Height, length. ఉద్దములు or ఉద్దాలు uddamulu. n. Shoes, slippers. పాదరక్షలు. 'పాదములు కిర్రుకిర్రని పలుకుచుండి కుచ్చుటుద్దాలు చేపట్టుకోలయమర.' H. iii. 121.

(p. 159) uddhāraṇamu or ఉద్ధారణ or ఉద్ధారము ud-dhāraṇamu. [Skt.] n. Lifting up. Protection. Sustaining. Rescuing, delivering, releasing, restoring. మతోద్ధారణచేయు to re-establish a religion. ఉద్ధారాంశము a share granted to the man who re-established something that has fallen into decay. పోయినదానిని మళ్లీ సాధించినవానికిచ్చే విశేష భాగము. ఉద్ధారము చేయు to sustain: support. ఉద్ధారకుడు ud-dhārakuḍu. n. He who sustains or nourishes, a saviour, a redeemer రక్షకుడు.

(p. 197) eḍugaḍa or ఏడ్గడ ēḍugaḍa. [Tel. ఏడు+కడ (lit.) the place where your ఏడుపు complaint is listened to or కడ means end. So ఏడుకడ means the end of sorrow, that is, refuge.] n. Quarter, patronage, refuge. రక్షకము. Protector, patron. రక్షకుడు, దిక్కు. 'మన్మైప్రేరితకోటికేడుగడ.'
