(p. 2) aṅkakāḍu anka-kāḍu. [Tel. Kan. అంకకాఱ.] n. One who is distinguished by a sign, గురుతుకలవాడు. The leader. One who excites quarrels. కలహప్రియుడు. 'అమరుడు కలహమున కంకకాడయి కాలు ద్రవ్య.' ఆముక్త. v. 84.

(p. 2) aṅkamu ankamu. [Tel. Drav. word borrowed by Skt. √ అన్్క్ = to move in a curve.] n. A ma spot, badge. బిరుదాంకము = బిరుదు గురుతు. 'అంకపురాజింక.' వసు. ii. 11. The haunch or part above the hip. A chapter or section. An act in a play. Proximity. A numerical figure, a cipher. A military show, a sham fight. వింతపోరు, చిత్రయుద్ధము. 'అంకగతుడైన దైత్యుని నాగ్రహమున.' భాగ. A fault, a sin, Objection, cavil ఆక్షేపము. 'అంకముసేయవచ్చునలయయ్యలమున్నుగ బ్రస్తుతించెదన్.' మైరా. i. అంకతలము or అంకపీఠి the lap, the part on which an infant sits, as on the lap. 'నయనీయంకతలంబునన్నిదుర నూనంజేయగా వేడెదన్.' విక్ర iii. 94. అంకుడు n. He who is marked or distinguished గురుతుగలవాడు. మృగాంకుడు the moon.

(p. 4) aṅgaḍi angadi. [Drav.] (Gen. అంగటి Loc. అంగట, plu. అంగళ్లు) n. A shop. అంగడిపెట్టు to open a shop. అంగళ్లవాడ range of shops. అంగట పోకార్చి selling in the shop. అంగడివీధి a market place. ఆ సంగతిని అంగడిలో పెట్టినాడు he revealed or exposed the matter.

(p. 5) aṅgamu angamu. [Skt.] n. The body, a limb, member, part, division or branch. అంగవంచకము = ఉపాయము, సహాయము, దేశకాలవిభజనము, ఆపదకు ప్రతిక్రియ, కార్యసిద్ధి. అద్భుతాంగులు beings having wondrous forms. అష్టాంగములు = the eight forms or stages of meditation, i. e, యమము, నియమము, ప్రాణాయామము, ప్రత్యాహారము, ధ్యానము, ధారణ, మననము, సమాధి. చతురంగములు the four divisions of an army, i. e., రథములు, ఏనుగులు, గుర్రములు, బంటులు. పంచాంగము the Indian calendar giving particulars of each day, as తిథి, వారము, నక్షత్రము, యోగము, కరణము. రాజ్యాంగములు the various departments of Government. షడంగములు or వేదాంగములు the six sciences dependent on the Vedas. i. e., శిక్ష, కల్పము, వ్యాకరణము, నిరుక్తము, జ్యోతిషము, ఛందస్సు. సప్తాంగములు = the seven constituents of a Government. స్వామి, అమాత్యుడు, సుహృత్తు, కోశము, రాష్ట్రము, దుర్గము, బలము. సాష్టాంగ ప్రణామము prostrate homage, touching the ground with eight members of the body, i. e., eyes or chest and forehead, hands, knees and feet.

(p. 4) aṅgazālavāḍu angazāla vāḍu. [Tel.] A village drudge, one who is at every man's bidding.

(p. 9) aṇḍabāḷlavāḍu anḍa-bāḷḷa-vāḍu. [Tel.Nellore.] n. A sub-renter. లోపాయకారి, లోపాలివాడు.

(p. 12) antalapontalavāḍu antalapontalavāḍu. [Tel.] n. A distant relation పరంపరాసం బంధి, దగ్గిరిచుట్టాలుకానివారు.

(p. 13) antāvasāyi antāvasāyi. [Tel.] n. A barber; a low caste wretch. మంగలవాడు, నీచుడు, గూలవాడు.

(p. 13) antyamu antyamu. [Skt.] adj. Final, last, ultimate, concluding. కడపటి. అంత్యనియమము rhyme, the last syllables corresponding. అంత్యదశ the last con dition, i. e., death. అంత్యధనము the last member of an arithmetical series. అంత్యమూలము in arith: the last or greatest root in the square. అంత్యకాలము last time, the time of one's end. అంత్యకులుడు or అంత్యజుడు n. A pariah. మాలవాడు.

(p. 15) ampakamu or అంపకాలు ampakamu. [Tel.] n. Permission to go; dismission. An entertainment given to a friend on the occasion of his departure. పంపించడము, సెలవు విందుచేసి సాగనంపడము, బహుమానమిచ్చిపంపడము. అంపకముచేయు to dismiss, send away. అల్లునికి అంపకము చేసి పంపిరి they gave the son-in-law the entertainment preparatory to his departure and sent him away. 'బ్రహ్మసభకేనుబోయి కొంత, కాలముదుండి యజుడంపకంబుసేయ, మానవసరంబునకువచ్చి.' H. 4. 7

(p. 16) ampakōla ampa-kōla. [Tel.] n. An arrow బాణము. 'పీలగరులయంప శోలలుసెలవిల్లు గానుకిచ్చి.' Swa. 4. 13.

(p. 16) ampu ampu. [Tel.] v. a. To send, forward, despatch. పంపు సాగనంపు to accompany a friend a little way so as to set him on his journey. పిలవనంపు to send for one. అంపించు. same as అంపు or పంపు to send. అంపుదోడు ampu-dōḍu. n. A companion in a journey. దారికి సహాయముగా వచ్చేమనిషి. వాడు అంపుదోళ్లకు బిడ్డకాన్పులకు తిరుగుతున్నాడు he employs himself as a companion and as a nurse.

(p. 106) aka āka. [Tel. from ఆగు to stop.] n. A check, an order, a command. Custody. అడ్డగింపు, ఆజ్ఞ, చెర. 'కికురించిరిచ్చిపుచ్చుకొను చోటులవారలాకకులోనుగాకప్పులీక.' Swa. iii. 163. ఆకట్టు (ఆక+కట్టు) ākaṭṭu. v. i. To prevent, hinder, check. నిరోధించు. ఆకపడు āka-paḍu. v. i. To intervene, to interpose. అడ్డిపడు, రామా: కిష్కిం: ఆకపెట్టు āka-peṭṭụ. v. t. To prevent.

(p. 19) akka akka. [Tel. a Dravidian word borrowed by Sanskrit, where it is used in the sense of mother. cf. Lat. acca] n. An elder sister. అక్కచెల్లెళ్లు elder and younger sisters. పెద్దక్క the eldest sister. Any woman older than oneself is usually styled అక్క elder sister, or అమ్మ mother, madam: and any man older than onself is usually styled అస్న elder brother, or, అయ్య father, sir. పంటలక్క a cook or kitchen maid. (p. 20) akkara akkara. [Tel.] n. Necessity, occasion, want, need, desire, అగత్యము. అక్కరతీర్చు to relieve from want. అది నాకక్కరలేదు I do not want it. దీనితో నీకేమి అక్కర what have you to do with this? నీవక్కడికి రావలసిన అక్కరయేమి what business had you to come there? అక్కరకొద్దీ మాట్లాడుట to speak as necessity demands. అది అక్కరకురాదు it will be of no use. వాడికి ఆ పని అక్కరపట్టలేదు he does not care for it. అక్కరకాడు one who is in need. అక్కరగలవాడు; అక్కరగండడు one who has an interest in an affair. శ్రద్ధగలవాడు; అక్కరపడు, అక్కరగొను to feel an interest in a thing. అక్కరకలిగియుండు, అక్కరపాటు a state of necessity. అక్కరపడుట.
