(p. 20) akkasamu akkasamu. [Tel.] n. Sorrow. 'నీ, వెక్కడనుండి వచ్చితిది యేటికి నుస్సురుమంటినీకు నీ, యక్కసమేలవచ్చెను.' కళా. 3. ఆ.

(p. 30) aṭa ata. [Tel.] or అంట (contraction of అంటున్నారు they say) It is said, they say. వాడు వచ్చెనట they say he is come. రావటే for రావటవే, i.e., రానంటావే యేమే what, will you not come? కోపమటే, i.e., కోపమాయేమే what, are you angry? బాలుడటేనాడు what! do you call him a child? అటరా is a contraction for అంటావురా dost thou say so?

(p. 66) appuḍu appuḍu. [Tel. from ఆ+పొద్దు] adv. Then, at that time (This is also used as a defective noun.) Dative అప్పటికి at that time, అప్పట్లో (locative) at that time. అప్పటినుంచి since that time. అట్లా చెప్పేటప్పటికి when he said so. మరియొకప్పుడు at another time. In compounds it means 'When', as వాడు వచ్చినప్పుడు when he came. ఒకప్పుడు వచ్చెను ఒకప్పుడు రాకపోయెను he sometimes came and sometimes stayed away. అప్పుడే (emphatic form) just then, already. అప్పుడే పుట్టిటనబిడ్డ a child just born. అప్పుడప్పుడు now and then. అప్పటిరాజులు the rulers of those days, the then princes.

(p. 204) airakonu aira-konu. [Tel. for అయిరకొను.] v. i. To be set right, చక్కబడు. To heal, to become better మాను. క 'భీషణ వనమున నాయు శ్శేష విశతషమున గ్రుళ్లి చివుకకయచ్చో నీషద్రుజలేక మహా ఘోషవృషంబునకు నైరకొనికాల్ వచ్చెన్.' P. i. 106.

(p. 206) okaḍu okaḍu. [Tel.] pron. One man, somebody, anybody. ఒకణ్ణి పిలిస్తే ఒకడు వచ్చెను I called one man and another came. వాడు ఒకడు వీడు ఒకడు కాదు that man and this man are the same, are not separate. ఒకతె okate. pron. One woman, a female.

(p. 217) ōza ōza. [Tel.] n. Order క్రమము. Way, manner విధము. Nature స్వభావము. A command ఆజ్ఞ. Vigor, zeal, joy ఉత్సాహము, ఎచ్చరిక. Fear భయము. Thought, idea, intent. Counsel, wisdom, good sense యోచన. In arithmetic, an uneven or odd number. A row, or range. వరుస. A teacher ఉపాధ్యాయుడు. (another form of ఓ౛్జ) 'సింగం బాకటితో గుహాంతరమునం ౛ట్పాటుమైనుండిమా సంతస్ఫూర్జితయూధదర్శనసము ద్యత్రోధమైనవచ్చునో ౛ంగాంతారనివాస భిన్నమతినస్మచ్ఛేనపైవీడవచ్చెన్ గుంతీసుతమధ్యముండుసమరస్థేమాభి రామాకృతిన్.' M. Virāṭa. 93. Like a lion bursting forth in rage. 'ఓ౛గాదిట్లాడనోనీకు' L. vii. 7. 'ఒడలి గుణమువేర యో౛వేర' Vēmana. ఓ౛పడు ōza-paḍu. v. i. To be settled, to be set right క్రమపడు. ఓ౛బంతి or ఓ౛్జబంతి ōzabanti. n. The way shown by the teacher ఉపాధ్యాయుడు చూసిన పద్ధతి. A copy set by him మేలుబంతి.

(p. 270) kāni or గాని kāni. [Tel.] (conj. denoting an alternative.) But, either, or, except, unless. And not, nor, Rather, Before. జాజియొక్కటియెకాని సకలకుసమ విసరసంపదచేనొప్పె వసుధయెల్ల , విరహణియెకానిధరణిపై వివిధజనులు సంతసములొందజేసె వసంతవేళ.' Sunandā Parinyam, iv. 22. 'ఆలలు మగనిమాట కడ్డంబు వచ్చెనా ఆలలుకాదది వానివ్రాలుకాని.' (Vēma.) ఇంతేకాని నేనేమెరుగను I know nothing but this. ఇదియేమోకాని I cannot tell what this may be. అదిగాని యిదిగాని either that or this. ఆపని పది దినములకుగాని కాదు that work cannot be finished in less than ten days. రేపుగాని రాడు he will not come here before to-morrow. ఉద్యోగము చిక్కుననే అపేక్ష ఉంటేగాని నేను అక్కడ ఉండను I would not have remained there had I not hoped to gain employment. ఇది అతని చేతగాని మరి యొకనిచేతకాదు he alone can do it, no one else can. ఎల్లవిధముల నిను వధియించిగాని పురికి నురుగముగావున for we will not return without slaying thee. అతడు వస్తేనేగాని యీపని కానేరదు unless he comes we cannot effect this. కాని or కానీ (for కానిమ్ము) imp. verb denoting assent. Let it be done. Be it so. Never mind. Very well. ఆ పని ముందరకానీ let that be done first. కానీ కానీ నీ కావరమణతు very well, I will crush your pride.

(p. 309) kē kē. [Tel.] n. A cry. కూత. 'క' నాయింటంబదికడవల నేయి పెరుగుపాలుద్రావి నీప్రియతనయుం డోయమ్మకడవలన్నియు గేయనిబోరగిలద్రోచికేరుచువచ్చెన్.' హరి. పూ. v.

(p. 325) kōka kōka. [Tel.] n. A plaid or garment, particularly that of a woman, a robe. ఆమె కట్టుకోకతో వచ్చెను she came with nothing but the clothes she was wearing.

(p. 358) garikonu gari-konu. [Tel.] n. To become sharp: to stiffen. గరిగట్టు gari-gaṭṭu. v. n. To be manifest, to be before the eyes. మూర్తీకరించు. 'కరషద్మసంగత ఘనలింగకళయు, గరి గట్టితమలోన గనవచ్చెననగ.' L. 6. 132. గరికమ్మ gari-kamma. n. A rough bough (of a palm tree) before the serrated edges are removed. గరిగొన్న gari-gonna. adj. Blackened, stained. నల్లగిలల్లిన. G. ii. 28.

(p. 428) ceḍu cheḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To be spoiled or damaged. To become rotten or worthless. To become wicked or bad. To be dispelled, dissipated, or done away with as darkness. To become bad, damaged or ruined. నశించు, కనబడకపోవు. To change, be altered from its original state. 'నకారము చెడి అర్థబిందువు వచ్చెను (Appa. C. ii. 31.) the letter N is dropt and the nasal sign (sunna) is substituted.' అది చెడె it is ruined! వాసిచెడినకాంతి with diminished brilliancy. నీ సంశయము చెడును your doubts shall be dissipated. M. XIII. v. 97. చెడగొట్టు cheḍa-goṭṭu. v. t. To ruin, spoil. చెడనాడు cheḍa-n-āḍu. v. t. To blame. నిందించు. To curse. To say 'Be it ruined'! To scorn. To waste, throw away. చెడిప cheḍipa. (చెడిన+అప.) n. An unchaste woman. రంకుటాలు. చెడు adj. Vile, worthless, Horrid, abominable. చెడుచిక్కు a terrible difficulty. చెడుగు cheḍugu. adj. Ruined, vile, worthless, Cruel క్రూరము. n. Evil, a misfortune or calamity. అశుభము. A bad woman దుష్టురాలు. చెడుగడు or చెడుగొట్టు cheḍu-gaḍu. n. A miscreant, a wretch. క్రూరుడు. P. i. 559. చెడ్డ cheḍḍa. (contracted form చెడిన.) adj. Bad, spoiled ruined, lost. Terrible, awful, tremendous. Hard, cruel. n. Evil. కీడు. మంచిచెడ్డలు good and bad. కులముచెడ్డవాడు one who has lost caste. తలచెడ్డచెట్టు a pollard, a tree that has lost its head. చెడ్డతనము cheḍḍa-tanamu. n. Badness, wickedness, severity.

(p. 526) tāvu or టావు tāvu. [Tel.] n. A place, locality; a home, room, space. స్థానము. అది నా తావున ఉన్నది I have it by me, in my hands. నా తావున పుచ్చుకొన్నారు they took it of or from me. అతడు నా తావుకు వచ్చెను he came to me. వానితావునకు పంపితిని I sent it to him. తావు, టావు or ఠావు n. A sheet of paper. తావు కాగితము.

(p. 552) tella tella. [Tel. తెల్ white.] adj. White, pale, pallid. Plain, evident. స్పష్టము. తెల్ల, తెల్లన or తెల్లదనము n. Whiteness, paleness. తెలుపు. తెల్లకాగితము blank paper. తెల్లజనాలు or తెల్లవారు white people, Europeans. తెల్లబంగారు pale gold. తెల్ల యెర్రవన్నె light red. మొగంబుతెల్లనై turning pale. తెల్లనికండ్లు bright eyes. తెల్లకాకి a white crow. తెల్లకొక్కెర a white crane. తెల్లగడ్డ a onion వెల్లుల్లి. తెల్లడాలు మెకము the lion. సింహము. తెల్లబోరవ tella-bōrava. n. The white Scavenger Vulture. తెల్లతీగ tella-tīga. n. A large woody climbing creeper called Dalbergia rubiginosa. Rox. iii. 231. తెల్లదీవి telladīvi. n. The white island, one of the sixteen divisions of the world. శ్వేతద్వీపము. A. iv. 127. తెల్లన or తెల్లని tellana. adj. White, light coloured, pale, sallow, bright. తెల్లనాకు Same as తెలనాకు. (q. v.) తెల్లనార tella-nāra. n. A kind of fish, a whiting. తెల్లనిదొర tellani-dora. n. Lit. the white lord, i.e., Siva or Balarāma. తెల్లబారు tella-bāru. v. n. To turn white. తెల్లబారిన whitish, glassy or glazed as an eye. తెల్లబోవు tella-bovu. v. n. To turn pale, to be thunderstruck. తెల్లమి or తెల్లము tellamu. adj. Apparent, evident, obvious, clear, స్పష్టము, స్ఫుటము. తెల్లముగా clearly. తేటతెలల్లముగా as clearly as possible. తెల్లవారు tella-vāru. (తెల్ల+పారు.) v. n. To dawn, ఉదయమగు. తెల్లవారినప్పుడు when the day dawned. ఈరాత్రి యెట్లా తెల్లవారునా అని ఉంటిమి we were in a fix, not knowing how this grief would terminate. 'తెల్లవారగనువచ్చెన్' he came at dawn. తెల్లవారకముందు before break of day. To turn white. తెల్లనగు. తెల్లవారలేస్తే from the hour of awaking. To be ruined or lost సారహీనమగు. అతని పని తెల్లవారినది his affair has lost all colour, i.e., he is ruined. తెల్లవారులు or తెల్లవార్లు tellavārulu. adv. Until morning. తెల్లవారగట్ల tella-vāra-gaṭla. adv. At daybreak. తెల్లవారి tella-vāri. n. The dawning, morn. (A verbal noun in ్ర as వినకరి and పలుకుబడి.) ఆ తెల్లవారి the following morning. తెల్లవారించు or తెల్లవార్చు tella-vārinṭsu. v. a. To cause the day to dawn, to watch all night. To clear up, explain, settle. అతనిపని తెల్లవారించినారు they arranged his matter.

(p. 584) daśa daṣa. [Skt.] n. State, condition. అవస్థ. Power, authority, influence. Luck. fortune. బాల్యదశ childhood. వృద్ధదశ old age. క్రామదశవచ్చెను a time of famine came. నీ జాతకప్రకారము రెండు దశలు భాగ్యనుభవించివలసి నదిన్ని రెండుదశలు గ్రహచారము అనుభవించవలసినదిన్ని your destiny gives you two portions of good and two of evil. ఆ రాజు ఎన్ని దశలు బాగ్యమును అనుభవించినాడు what proportion of the king's life was happy? గ్రహదశ the influence of the stars. మహాదశ the rule or away of the predominant planet, qualified or modified by అంతర్ధశ the several influences of the minor planets. అతడు జీవదశనున్నప్పుడు when he was alive. కష్టదశలోనున్నాడు he is in difficulties.

(p. 700) paḍava paḍava. [Tel.] n. A boat. దోసె, War, combat, fighting, యుద్ధము. Imminent danger, peril, a fatal accident, ప్రళయము. ఈ పడవ గడిస్తే if I can only get over this hobble or scrape. 'అరదంబు నందుండి తన తనయుండైన భగదత్తుండు ముందు నడువ పడవకైవచ్చెనంత.' Satyabhāma. iv. 134. పడవరము or పడవలము paḍava-ramu. (పడలు+వలము.) n. The vanguard of an army, సేనాముఖము. 'గొల్లవల్లభుకపుడు కట్టంబు మిక్కిలి కానుకలిచ్చి, పడవలంబులదూల పలుమారు నేసి.' Pal. 80. పడువరు to proceed or go before, ముందునడుచు. పడవాగె or పడివాగె paḍa-vāge. adj. Prepared. Bridled. కళ్లెము పెట్టి స్థిరపరచిన. 'ఇనుడప్పు డజుడౌట మునుమున్ను పడవాగెగొని వచ్చు రాయంచకొదమయనగ.' Swa. iii. 74. టీ కళ్లెముపెట్టి స్థిరపరచి తేబడినటువంటి, అనగా ముస్తీబైవచ్చినటువంటి. పడవాలు, పడవాలుడు or పడాలు paḍavālu. n. A commander of an army. సేనాధిపతి, దళవాయి. 'కనపపులు వేల్పుపడవాలుగన్నచోటు.' Swa. ii. 9. టీ ': వేల్పుపడవాలు, దేవతలకు సేనాధిపతి. 'ధనంజయుండు తమతోడంజనుదేరదగు పరివారంబు సమకట్టం బడవాళ్లంబనిచె.' M. XIV. iii. 4. పడసాల paḍa-sāla. (పడలు+సాల.) n. A hall, a portico. కూటము, కూటాము. 'పడసాల ముంగిలి పందిలి పసిగాడి.' Suca. iii. 469.
