A stripe or streak of paint, రేఖ. A facet or side of a diamond, పక్క. A gold hand or fillet worn on the forehead, at the time of one's coronation, పట్టము. A broad caste-mark worn in the forehead, వెడల్పుగా నుండుబొట్టు.

(p. 944) maḍi maḍi. [Tel. from మడగు.] n. Purity, an unpolluted cloth, clean clothes. శుచి, ధౌతవస్త్రము. మడితోనుండు to be dressed in clean garments, as a Brahmin, when he takes his meals. ఎక్కడికిపోయినా నా మడితప్పను go where I may, I will not break the rule of purity. adj. Pure, clean. శుచిగానుండే. మడిబట్ట a clean cloth. మడికాసు maḍi-kāsu. n. Silver, వెండి. (Thus, white money was an old English word for silver.) మడికాసుకొండ the hill of silver, i.e., రజతగిరి. 'అదిసుధాకర బింబమా కాదు మడి కాసువన్నె వేలుపుటున్నువత్తిగాని.' P. iv. 251. మడిచేరు maḍi-chēru. n. The end of a woman's cloth tucked up behind. మడివేలు maḍi-vēlu. n. A washerman. చాకలి. మడిసంచి maḍi-sanchi. n. A pure or sacred bag. మడివస్త్రములను ఉంచుసంచి. మడిసంచి maḍi-sandi. n. The arm pit, చంక, కక్షము.

(p. 959) marmaramu marmaramu. [Skt. cf. Eng. 'murmur'.] n. A murmur, a rustling sound. వస్త్రములయొక్కయు పర్ణములయొక్కయు మ్రోత.

(p. 1033) maila or మయిల maila. [from Skt. మలినము.] n. Uncleanness, foulness, impurity, dirt, pollution, ceremonial defilement, మాలిన్యము, అశుచిత్వము. A dirty cloth, మలిన వస్త్రము. adj. Dirty, unclean. మైలవస్త్రములు dirty clothes. మైలావు or మయిలఆవు a cow of a grizzled colour. పొగచాయగలఆవు. మడి మైల clean and dirty, foul and fair. మైలక్రోవి maila-krōvi. n. A kind of musical instrument, మురళి. మైలచాయ తొండ maila-ṭsāya-tonda. n. A kind of lizard or bloodsucker. మైలతుత్తము or మయిలుతుత్తము maila-tuttamu. n. Blue vitriol or sulphate of copper. తుత్తము. మైలపడు maila-paḍu. v. n. To become dirty or unclean, to become polluted, మలినమగు, ఆశుచియగు.

(p. 1145) vastramu vastramu. [Skt.] n. A cloth, clothes, raiment, dress, చేలము, బట్ట. కట్టువస్త్రముతో నన్ను తెచ్చినారు they brought me in my shirt, they brought me just as I was అన్నవస్త్రములు food and raiment. వస్త్రగాలి తముచేయు to strain a powder through a dry cloth.

(p. 1269) saṅkaṭamu sankaṭamu. [Skt.] n. A difficulty, trouble, affliction, danger, calamity. ఇరుకు, బాధ, ఇక్కట్టు. Disease, illness, రోగము. ప్రాణసంకటము mortal peril. సుఖసంకటము a venereal disease. adj. Difficult, unsafe, narrow, కఠినమైన, ఇరుకైన. సంకటపడు sankaṭa-puḍu. v. n. To be in trouble, to be distressed, శ్రమపడు. అన్నవస్త్రములకులేక సంకటపడుచున్నారు they are in trouble for want of food and clothing. సంకటపాటు snakaṭa-pāṭu. n. The state of being in trouble, సంకటపడుట. సంకటపట్టు sankaṭa-peṭṭu. v. a. To give trouble to, to annoy, harass, బాధపెట్టు, హింసపెట్టు.

(p. 1272) saṅgatamu san-gatamu. [Skt.] adj. Joined, united, come together, coherent, consistent, proper, just, adequate, reasonable, suitable, appropriate, applicable. యుక్తమైన, యోగ్యమైన, సంలగ్నమైన, సంయుక్తమైన. 'కమనీయ వజ్రసంగతక వాటములు.' HD. i. 13. n. Friendship, స్నేహము. Meeting, చేరిక. సంగతి san-gati. n. A circumstance, matter, case, subject, affair, business, event, occurrence: the contents of a writing. Association, junction, union, company, society. Fitness, decorum, propriety. కార్యము, వ్యవహారము. పని, విషయము, సహవాసము, సాంగత్యము, యుక్తము, యోగ్యము, సంపర్కము. అతడు చెప్పిన సంగతి ఏమంటే he stated as follows. ఈ సంగతి నాకు తెలిసి on knowing this. ఆ సంగతి నేను వినలేదు I did not hear of it. అతడు బ్రతికియుండే సంగతి చనిపోయిన సంగతి తెలియలేదు I do not know whether he is alive or dead. సంగతిని or సంగతిగా san-gati-ni. adv. Properly, fitly. యుక్తముగా, తగినట్టుగా. 'పట్టు వస్త్రములు భూషణముల్ గల చందనంబులున్, సంగతిగట్టియుందొడిగి సయ్యనజూచె.' ప్రసన్న రాఘవశతకము. సంగతించు san-gatinṭsu. v. n. To happen, occur. సంభవించు. ప్రసక్తించు. సంగతుడు san-gatuḍu. n. (In composition,) one who is accompanied by, or beset by. కూడుకొన్నవాడు. 'అపరాహ్ణసంగతుండగుత పనుంగని ప్రొద్దుగ్రుంక దడవేగుదురీరిపులన.'
