The old dragon, who is worshipped as the supporter of the earth. ఆది, ఆదిగా ādi. n. Etcetera. వాని గృహాదులు his house, &c. మన్వాదులు Manu and others. ఉత్తరాది నుంచి వచ్చినారు they came from the north. ఉత్తరాదివాండ్లు people of the north. దక్షిణాది సరుకులు goods imported from the south. ఆదికము ādikamu. n. A place. స్థానము. నెలకూన the crescent moon, బాలచంద్రుడు A nail mark, నఖక్షతము. వసు. vi. నెలకొను or నెలవుకొను nela-konu. v. n. To be, stay, arise. ఉండు, నిలుచుండు, పుట్టు, కలుగు. To become firm or settled, నిలుకడయగు. 'క నేముం జనుదెంచెద మూరట, నెలకొని వృషభమపజ్జనడుచు గోవులపగిదిన్.' M. VII. i. 55.

(p. 819) pōtu pōtu. [Tel.] n. The male of certain birds, animals and plants, పశు పక్షులలోమగది. ఆబోతు an ox, వృషభము. ఎనుబోతు a male buffalo. మేకపోతు a he-goat, a ram. నక్కపోతు a male fox. గొడ్డుపోతు a barren woman. పోతుటీగ a male fly. పోతుటేనుగు a male elephant. పోతుకరుడు the bigger surf, పెద్దఅల. పోతుతాడు the male palm tree. పోతురౌతు, an epithet of Yama, the god of Death, యముడు. పోతుపిల్ల, a male young one. పశుజాతిలో మగపిల్ల. పోతుపిల్లి a tom cat. పోతు sometimes means one who is addicted to, as తాగుబోతు a drunkard. తిండిబోతు a glutton. తూగుపోతు a sluggard వదురుబోతు a chatter box. పోతుపిచ్చిక or పెద్దపిచ్చిక pōtu-pichchika. n. The Ashy-crowned Finch Lark. Pyrrhulauda grisca. (F.B.I.) పోతురాజు or పోతరాజు pōtu-rāḍsu. n. The name of a rustic god, like Pan, worshipped throughout the Telugu, Canarese and Mahratta countries. He represents the male principle associated with the village goddesses Gangamma, Peddamma, &c. A proverb says పాడుఊరికి మంచపుకోడుపోతురాజు in a ruined village the leg of a cot is a god. cf., 'a Triton of the minnows' (Shakespeare.) బమ్మెరపోతరాజు the name of a certain poet. పోతులరాజు pōtula-rāḍzu. n. A name given to a large hound.

(p. 873) baḍapaḍu , బడపన్న, బసవస, బసవయ్య. బసవేశుడు or బన్వేశుడు basavaḍu. [Tel.] n. A bull. వృషభము. The name of a bull sacred to Siva. అచ్చువేసిన ఆబోతు. A proper name much used among worshippers of the Lingam. The name of a Hindu Reformer, Brahmin by birth, the founder of the Jangam sect.

(p. 1077) rāśi or రాసి rāṣi. [Skt.] n. A heap, pile; a collection, quantity, multitude, mass. ధాన్యాదులప్రోగు. A constellation or sign of the Zodiac, మేషాదిరాసులు. These are మేషము (Aries), వృషభము (Taurus), మిథునము (Gemini), కర్కటకము (Cancer), సింహము (Leo), కన్య (Virgo), తుల (Libra), వృశ్చికము (Scorpio), ధనుస్తు (Sagittarius), మకరము (Capricornus), కుంభము (Aquarius,) and మీనము (Pisces). Plu. రాసులు, జలరాశి or అంబురాశి the collection of waters, i.e., the ocean. జీవరాశి or జీవకోటి the animal kingdom, animated nature. ఉభయరాశిధాన్యము the gross produce of a field before the Government share is deducted. మేలురాశి a heap of winnowed grain. బూగరరాసి a heap of unwinnowed grain. రాశిఅడుగు a small quantity of grain remaining after a heap has been measured. త్రైరాశికము the rule of three. పంచరాశికము the double rule of three. బహురాశికము, compound proportion. రాశిపోయు rāsi-pōụu. v. a. To heap or pile up. పోగుగా పోయు.

(p. 1203) vṛṣabhamu vṛishabhamu. [Skt.] n. A bull. ఆబోతు. The sing Taurus, వృషభరాశి. adj. In compounds, excellent, best of its kind, pre-eminent. ఋషివృషభము a noble saint, an exalted sage. కవివృషభుడు a noble poet. వృషము vṛishamu. A bull, an ox, ఎద్దు. వృషుడు vṛishuḍu. n. An epithet of Indra. ఇంద్రుడు. వృషధ్వజుడు or వృషభాంకుడు vṛisha-dhvajudu. n. A name of Siva. శివుడు.
