A prefix (like ground, or dwarf,) applied to certain plants, as నేలపేము, dwarf rattan, నేలపొన్న dwarf cassia. నేలగలుపు nēla-galupu. v. a. Lit. To mix with the earth. To ruin. దానిని నేలగలిపినాడు he ruined it. నేలకుగోలకుతెచ్చు to turn upside down, కిందుమీదుచేయు. నేలచూపు a downcast look. నేలచూలి nēlaṭsūli. n. Lit: The earth-born child, i.e., Sita, బూమిజ. నేలతాడి nēla-tāḍi. n. The plant called Curculigo orchioides. తాలమూలి. Rox. ii. 144. నేలతాలుపు nēlatalupu. n. A mountain. పర్వతము, భూధరము. A kind of pigeon called a tumbler. నేలమీద పల్టీలువేసే పావురాయి. నేలబావి a well without any wall round it. నేలమాళిగ, నేలమాలె or నేలమాలియ a room under ground, భూమిలోపలి యిల్లు. నేలముల్లాకు the plant called క్షుద్రము, Solanum jacquini. నేలరేడు nēla-rēḍu. n. A king. రాజు, భూపతి. నేలవేము nēla-vēmu. n. The plant called Justicia paniculata. Rox. i. 118. or Andrographis paniculata. (Watts.) నేలవేలుపు nēla-vēlupu. n. A Brahman. భూసురుడు, భూదేవుడు. నేలాపల nēlāpu. (నేల+ఆపు.) n. A kind of hawk. ఒక విధమైనడేగ.

Possession, charge, వశము. infl. పాలి, or పాలిటి; local ablative పాల or పాలిటి. plu. పాళ్లు. నా వయసు నీపాలుచేసినాను I yielded up my youth to thee. అతని పాలికి వచ్చినది యిది this is what fell to his share. నీపాలిదైవము or నీపాలిటిదైవము your good angel, your tutelary God. వాడు నాపాలిటికి యముడు he has been a curse to me. వేములుపండి కాకులపాలైనవి a proverb regarding the wealth of a prodigal. పరులపాలైన given up to others or sacrificed. దొంగలపాలైన abandoned to thieves. రచ్చలపాలుకావడము to become a prey to ridicule, to become a laughing stock. అప్పుల పాలయినాడు he has fallen into debt. పాలబాన or పాలుబాన pāla-bāna. n. The ryot's share of the crop, ఉభయరాశి అంబారములో కాపునకు చేరే వర్తనధాన్యము. 'కష్టపడి పైరుచేసే సంసారి, ముద్రపిండి, వినాయకునిచాట, గుగ్గిళ్లగంప, పాలుబాన, రాశి అడుగు, ఇవి పుచ్చుకొని,' Miscell. iii. 430. పాలాడు pāl-āḍu. v. a. To divide into shares. To cut, to sever, to separate, ఖండించు. పాలారుచు or పాలార్చు pālā-ruṭsu. (పాలు+అరుచు.) v. a. To disregard, to neglect, ఉపేక్షించు. భాగ. iii. పాలుచేయు pālu-chēyu. v. a. To hand over, give over to, deliver, sacrifice. నన్ను అప్పులపాలుచేసినాడు he plunged me in debt. పాలుపడు or పాల్పడు pālupaḍu. v. n. To undertake, to enter upon, to share, to engage in. పూనుకొను, పైనవేసికొను. To be subject to, స్వాధీనమగు. 'వివిధచేష్టలకుంబాలుపడి.' B. X. §. 30. పాలుపుచ్చు or పాలుపెట్టు pālu-puṭsṭsu. v. a. To deduct or subtract: to divide or separate, విభాగించు. To decide or settle, నిర్ణయించు. వేదనపాలుకాలేను I cannot endure being a prey to grief. పాలుగలవాడు a co-heir, a cousin, దాయాదివాడు. 'పాలుగలవాడు మన కొకజాలియిడక, తానతారసానకు వచ్చెన్.' A. iii. 39. పాలుపోవు pālu-pōvu. v. n. To be divided or shared. విభక్తమగు. To be decided, నిర్ణీతమగు. ఒకరిని పాలుబోక ఆ పనిని అట్టె పడవేసిపెట్టినారు no one undertook the work, so it was left undone. అది యెటు వ్రాయడానకు పాలుపోక విడిచినాను unable to decide how to write the passage. I omitted it. పాలుభోగగ్రామము pālu-bhōga-grā-mamu. n. A village wherein each field is held as one man's separate property.

(p. 821) pōlu pōlu. [Tel.] v. n. To be fit or agreeable. ఒప్పు, తగియుండు. To be proper, యుక్తమగు. To be possible, శక్యమగు. This word is added to infinitives. చేయబోలునె can it be done? The neg. is పోలదు; thus, అట్లా చేయపోలదు or తగదు it is not proper to do so. ఉండబోలును perhaps they are there, ఉన్నవేమో. 'తెగువయదేవేంద్రపదవియనదగు బుద్ధిజనింపబోలుతరుణీనీకున్.' H. i. 140. v. a. To resemble, to be like, సరిపోలు. n. Resemblance, similarity, సామ్యము. పోలుపొందులేకుండా మాట్లాడు or తలా తోకలేకుండా మాట్లాడు to talk without rhyme or reason. పోలె pōle. adv. Like. రామునిపోలె like Rama. పోలమి pōl-ami. n. Dissimilarity, unlikeness. పోలించు, పోలుచు or పోల్చు pōlinṭsu. v. a. To compare, or liken. పోలజేయు. పోలిక, పోలికి or పోల్కి pōlika. n. Resemblance, likeness.

(p. 1218) vēgi or వేగిస vēgi. [Tel.] n. A tree, Pterocarpus bilobus. స్వర్ణకవృక్షము, కర్తబీజి. Various kinds are called జిట్టవేగి and ముల్లువేగి. 'వేగివేముమొదలుగాగలమ్రాకుల.' P. iv. 545.

(p. 1222) vēpa vēpa. [Tel. from వేము.] n. The Margosa or Neem tree, నింబవృక్షము. వేపాకు the leaves of this tree. వేపనూనె margosa oil. కరివేపచెట్టు a tree called Bergera kœnigil, whose aromatic leaves are used in cookery. నేవేము Colombo-root, Justicia. కొండవేయు a tree, a beautiful variety of the Melia azadirachta. తురకవేపచెట్టు Olax scandens or Melia sempervirens. Rox. వేపపూపండుగ or సంవత్సరాది పండుగ the feast held at the season when the Morgosa tree is in flower. This is the Telugu New Year's Day. See వేము.

(p. 1222) vēmu vēmu. [Tel.] n. The Margosa or Neem tree, Ammyadirachta indica. నింబవృక్షము. See వేప.

(p. 1222) vēmuḍu or వేమడు vēmuḍu. [Tel.] n. A name used for God. దేవుడు. 'ఆమడ కామడకడవులు, గ్రామములున్ జెరువునదులుకర్మములిమతే, తామెందులోన దిరిగిన, వేమడుతోడగుచువచ్చు వెంటనె.' Vēma. 2150.

(p. 1224) vēru vēru. [Tel.] n. A root. మూలము. plu. వేరులు or వేళ్లు. వేరిడి vēr-iḍi. [వేరు+ఇడి.] n. A fool, a mad man. అవివేకి, వెర్రివాడు, వెర్రిస్త్రీ.' వృథాబోధకుండు వేరిడికాడే.' P. i. 729. వేరిడించు vēriḍintsu. v. n. To cause to become foolish, అవివేకమునుపొందజేయు. వేరుపారు or వేరుతన్ను vēru-pāru. v. a. To take root. వేరుపనస vēru-panasa. n. That kind of jack tree, the fruit of which springs from the root. A. i. 21. వేరుమల్లె vēru-malle. n. A creeper called Ipomea cymosa. వేరుసంపెంగ vērē-sampenga. n. A plant called Polyanthes tuberosa. వేరుసెనగ vēru-senaga. n. The ground nut. Arachis hypogœa (Watts.) వేరునకాచే సెనగలు. వేరువిత్తు vēru-vittu. n. A bane, ruin, destroyer. నాశకము, నాశకుడు.
