(p. 662) nivītamu nivītamu. [Skt.] n. A veil, a mantle, a wrapper. కప్పుకొనబడినది, కప్పుకొనేబట్ట. The Brahminical thread, so called when worn round the neck as a necklace, at certain religious rites. పేరు వలె వేసుకొన్న ౛ందెము. రుమాలుగుడ్డను మెడను నివీతముగా వేలాడగట్టి అందులో నొప్పిగానుండే చేతిని ఉంచుకొన్నాడు he has slung his arm in a handkerchief.

(p. 847) prālambamu or ప్రాలంబిక pr-ālambamu. [Skt.] n. A garland, necklace. పేరుగా వేసుకొన్న పూలదండ, పేరు, గొలుసు.

(p. 963) maḷlu or మరలు maḷḷu. [Tel.] v. n. To turn, తిరుగు. మళ్లుముఖముగానున్నది it is on the turn. మళ్లుకొను maḷḷu-konu. v. n. To turn back or return. మళ్లవేసికొను maḷḷa-vēsi-konu. v. a. To turn or stop a thing, as a cat or dog does a rat. దోవలో దొంగలు నన్ను మళ్లవేసుకొన్నారు or అడ్డుకొన్నారు the thieves beset me in the road.

(p. 1112) lō lō. [Tel.] prep. In, within, inside of, amongst, among, of. దారిలో on the road. ఇంటిలో or ఇంట్లో in the house. వచ్చినంతలో on his coming. అంతలో or ఇంతలో in the meantime. The word must be translated to suit the verb with which it is used. Thus, బిళ్లను మెడలో వేసుకొన్నాడు he wore the badge over his shoulder. తలలో వాగా చుట్టుకొన్నాడు he rolled the turban round his head. అత్తలోనుండి విభాగము కాలేదు she is not separated from her mother-in-law's family. ఇంతరాత్రిలో so late at night. తమలోతాము మాటాడుకోలేదు they did not speak to each other. వేలిలోనుండే ఉంగరము the ring on his finger. బిడ్డ నాపక్కలో పండుకొని ఉండినది the child lay down at my side. మాలో అందరు all of us. వాడు అందరిలో మంచివాడు he is the best of them all. (See లోను and లోని.) పనిలో మాట్లాడుట to talk during work, or while at work. చెట్టులో బంకకారుతున్నది gum flows from the tree. అతడు నాచేతిలో కోసినాడు he inflicted a wound on my hand. లో lō. adj. Inner, internal, inside. Inferior, or subordinate. లోగది an inner room. లోకావు a sub-renter or under farmer. లోచెయ్యి the inner hand, i.e., the palm of the hand. లోగొను to take inside, to receive, to contain within itself, లోపల నడచుకొను. లోమనుష్యుడు a reserved or self-contained man. లోగా lō-gā. adv. Within, inside, meanwhile, in the course of, లోపల. పదిదినములకులోగా within ten days. ఈలోగా meantime. ఇది వానికి చేరే లోగా before this reaches him. యాభైయేండ్లకులోగా before he was fifty years old.

(p. 1116) vaṅka vanka. [Tel. from వంగు.] n. A side, quarter, direction, పక్క, దిక్కు. Crookedness, a bend. A pretence or pretext. వక్రత్వము, వంకర, వంపు. Fault, blame. నేరము. A rivulet or watercourse. వాగు. ఆలివంకవారు relations by the wife's side. కట్టెవంకపొయి తీర్చును fire settles the crookedness of the wood. తాను ఆడలేక మద్దెల మీద వంటపెట్టినాడు he cannot dance so he finds fault with the drum. నా వంకచూడు look towards me. నెత్తురు వంకలుకట్టినది the blood flowed in streams. వారిమీద వంకపెట్టి వ్రాసినాడు he wrote laying the blame on them. నెలవంక a half moon. adj. Crooked. వక్రమైన. 'పెడతటివంకసికయు.' P. iii. 211. టీ వక్రముగా వేసుకొన్న జుట్టును. affix. By, through, వల్ల. 'వంచనయిప్పుడీ తులువ వంకజనించెజనించుగాక.' P. iii. 309. 'క్రతువువంక గలుగునా మోక్షంబు.' Vema. 952. వంకదార a crooked way, వంకరిదారి. వంకము or వంకాము vankamu. n. A crooked stick used while threshing corn. వంకర vankara. n. Crookedness, a bend or curve. Blame, a fault. వక్రత్వము, దోషము. వంకర, వంకరటింకర or వంకరటొంకర vankara. adj. Crooked, distorted. వంకరైన. వంకరమాటలు crooked language, nonsense. వంకరపోవు to become crooked. వంకసన్నములు vanka-sannamulu n. plu. A sort of rice. వడ్లలోభేదము.

(p. 1150) vāta vāta. [Tel. from వాచు.] n. A burning, a brand, a cautery, the mark which it produces. కాలినలోహముతో రోగమువచ్చిన పశ్వాదులను కాల్చడము. Also, the 3rd case of వాయి. By or in the mouth, నోటితో లేక, నోటియందు. వాతవేయు vāta-vēyu. v. a. To burn with an iron or apply as the actual cautery. To cauterize, to brand. కాలినలోహముతో రోగముగలపశ్వాదులను కాల్చు. To put in the mouth. నా యింటిని వాడు వాతవేసుకొన్నాడు he devoured my house, i.e., be seized my property. See under వాయి.

(p. 1223) vēyu vēyu. [Tel.] v. a. To throw, cast, or fling. To discharge a missile weapon, or fire arms. To let drop, దిగవిడుచు. To place, put, put on, as a dress. ఉంచు. దానిని చెంపమీద ఒక దెబ్బ వేసినాడు he gave her a slap on the cheek. ఆ గుడ్డను బల్లమీద వేసినాడు he put the cloth on the table. నాకూటిలో రాయివేసినాడు he threw a stone into my food, i.e., he injured my livelihood. మూతవేయు to put a lid on, shut. తలుపు వేసినాడు he shut the door. రాత్రిఅంతా నేను రెప్పవేయలేదు I did not close my eyes all last night. కోలాటము వేస్తున్నారు they are dancing a Kolatam. గంతులువేయు to leap. బండికట్టు or వేయు to make the carriage ready. పల్లమువేయు or వేయు to make the carriage ready. పల్లమువేయు or జీనికట్టు or వేయు to saddle a horse. ప్రశ్నవేయు to ask a question. గుడిసెవేయు to build a hut. దివిటీలువేయు to light torches. లెక్కవేయు to add up an account. ఆ యావు దూడవేసినది the cow calved. మబ్బువేసినది it is now cloudy. మేతవేయు to give fodder. కూతవేయు to give a cry. 'చయ్యనరెట్టబట్టి పొమ్మని వెనుకకుబడద్రోచి వీపువేసెన్ పెలుచన్.' Vish. ii. 14. పడమటిగాలి వేసేటప్పుడు when the land-wind blows. నాకు భయమువేస్తున్నది I am afraid. కంపువేస్తున్నది it is stinking. As an auxiliary added to some past participles, it denotes completeness of action and may be expressed by 'up, off, on, down, through, away.' కోసివేయు to cut off. మూసివేయు to shut up. తోసివేయు to push a way. తీసివేయు to draw out. పీకివేయు to pluck up or out. కొట్టివేయు to strike down or cut off. వ్రాసివేయు to write off. ఇచ్చివేయు to give away. తినివేయు to eat up. It is also used with an infinitive; as పడవేయు to cast down; పారవేయు to throw away. వేసికొను vēsi-konu. v. a. To put, place, eat, consume. నా సొత్తును వాని నోటిలో వేసికొన్నాడు he devoured my property. ఆ మాతను నోటో వేసుకొచ్చాడు he put the pill in his mouth. టోపి వేసుకొన్నాడు he put on his hat. మిడతవేసుకొని పోయిన పంట corn eaten up by the locusts.

(p. 1226) vēṣamu or వేశము vēshamu. [Skt.] n. Dress, garb, habit, a fashion or manner of dress, costume, a disguise or guise. వస్త్రభూషణాదులు అలంకరించుకొనడదము. మారువేషము a false garb, a disguise. 'తక్షకుండునగ్నవేషధరుడై.' M. 1. i. 151. వేషమువేయు to put on a disguise. కృష్ణవేషమువేసినాడు or కట్టినాడు he dressed or disguised himself as Krishna. తలనొప్పిగా నున్నదని వేషమువేసినాడు he feigned a head-ache. వేషగాడు vēsha-gāḍu. n. An actor: an impostor, వేషములువేసేవాడు. వేషధారి vēsha-dhāri. n. A person in disguise, a hypocrite, an impostor, మారువేషమువేసుకొన్నవాడు. వేషాలమారి vēshāla-māri. n. One who feigns, a pretender, a cheat, మాయలమారి. వేషి vēshi. n. One who is disguised. వేషధారి. 'ఇంద్రుడు ప్రియంబుగ గౌతమవేషియైనవాడని.' BRY. v. 37.

(p. 1284) saṃvītamu sam-vītamu. [Skt.] adj. Surrounded, enclosed, encompassed. ఆవృతము, ఆవరింపబడిన. n. The sacerdotal thread when hung round the neck like a garland, పేరువలె వేసుకొన్న జందెము.
