(p. 564) tōṭa tōṭa. [Tel.] n. A garden. తోటకాపు, తోటమాలి, తోటవాడు or తోటీడు' a gardener. తోటకూర tōṭa-kūra. n. Greens, garden herbs. The green produce of a garden is divided into ఆకుకూరలు or తోటకూరలు vegetables, the leaf of which is eaten, such as spinach and cabbage: and కాయకూరలు of which the pod, fruit, or head is eaten, such as brinjals, cucumbers, &c. కొయ్యతోటకూర or కొయ్యగూర is the phrase for all such plants as sprout after being cut, like camomile: and పెరుగుతోటకూర is the class of herbs which do not send forth shoots after being cut. తోటకూర is also a particular herb, called Braid in French. Amaranthus Tristis, (Rox. iii. 604.) Amaranthus gangeticus, or Amaranthus oleraccus. పెద్దతోటకూర Amaranthus giganteus. దొగ్గలితోటకూర Amaranthus polygamus. ముళ్లతోటకూర or నల్లదొగ్గలితోటకూర the Pricklly Amaranth, Amaranthus spinosus. ఎర్రకోడిజుట్టు తోటకూర or మయూరశిఖి Celosia cristata (Watts.) సిగ్గనగా తోటకూరవంటిది modesty grows anew in the heart like a cropped herb. తోటకూరవంటి like mere green stuff, i.e., weak, feeble తోటకూరవంటిపని a mere greenherb business. తోటకూరగింజవంటిది small as a mustard seed.

(p. 628) nakhamu nakhamu. [Skt.] n. A nail, talon, claw. గోరు. A scale, as of an armadillo. నఖమాంసన్యాయంబున inseparable as the skin and the nail. నఖశిఖాపర్యంతము ఒళ్లు నొచ్చుచున్నది I am in pain to the tips of my nails, i.e., all over. నఖక్షతము nakha-kshatamu. n. A nail mark made on the skin by pinching.నఖముఖాలు nakha-mukhālu. n. Lit. The tips of the nails. adv. Dispersedly, up and down, all about, in all directions, all over, on all sides. నఖముఖాలనుండి from every quarter. నఖరము nakharamu. n. A nail, talon, claw. గోరు. A kind of weapon, ఆయుధ విశేషము. నకరాయుధము nakhar-āyu-dhamu. n. Lit: 'Armed with claws;' i.e., a cat, a lion, &c., but usually a cock, కోడి. నఖరేఖలు nakha-rēkhalu. n. Nail-marks or scratches.

An ant hill, వల్మీకము. పాముపుట్ట an ant hill in which a snake lives. నాగులచవితికి పుట్టలో పాలుపోయుదురు they pour milk in a snake's hole on the feastday called Nāgula Ṭsaviti. A pack, number, collection, lot heap, crowd. ఆ యిల్లు చీమలపుట్టగా నున్నది the house is a regular ant's nest. ఆ పుస్తకము అబద్ధాలపుట్టగానున్నది that book is a pack of lies. వాని ఒళ్లు వట్టినరములపుట్ట he is mere skin and bone. పుట్టకాపు or పుట్టకూడుదిండి puṭṭa-kāpu. n. Lit: That which feeds on ant hills, i.e., a bear, ఎలుగుగొడ్డు. పుట్టకాలు puṭṭa-kālu. n. A leg swollen with elephantiasis, బూరకాలు, ఏనుగుకాలు. 'పుట్టకాల్ సొట్టవ్రేల్ వట్టివ్రేలుంజెవుల్.' Jagan. i. 54. పుట్టకాలివాడు one who is afflicted with elephantiasis in the leg. పుట్టకుడు puṭṭa-kūḍu. n. The heart of an ant hill, the red earth that contains the eggs. A fungus. కుక్కగొడుగు. 'వ పొట్టకైపుట్టకూటికిం జీమలకుం జెదలునకు నెలుంగులు గలుగులం బుట్టలు నిశితనిజ నఖరకులిశ కోటులంగోరాడ.' Swa. iv. 49. పుట్టకొక్కు, పుట్టగొడుగు or పుట్టచేర్పు puṭṭa-kokku. n. A mushroom, toadstool, fungus. M. XII. v. 418. పుట్టకోట puṭṭa-kōta. n. A bulwark, a buttress. కోటకు కోటబైట వేసిన మట్టితిన్నె. పుట్టకోవలు the pointed tops of ant hills, పుట్టమీదిశిఖరములు. పుట్టగోచి puṭṭa-gōchi. n. A large modesty piece. పెద్దగోచి, కాపీనము. పుట్టచిలుక puṭṭa-chiluka. n. The Sirkeer Cuckoo. Taccocua leschnenaultii, (F.B.I.) పుట్టచూలు or పుట్టపుట్టువు puṭṭa-ṭsūlu. n. He who was 'born of an ant hill.' This is a word translated from the Sanscrit name వాల్మీకి. Vālmīki. పుట్టతమ్మచెట్టు puṭṭa-tamma-cheṭṭu. n. A large creeping plant, the fruit of which is used medicinally. పుట్టతేనె puṭṭa-tēne. n. Honey found in an ant-hill. పుట్టతేలు puṭṭa-tēlu. n. The large black scorpion, so called because found in rubbish. మరిడ్రగబ్బ. పుట్టముంగి puṭṭa-mungi. n. Lit: A mongoose on an ant hill, used as a type of composure. adj. Demure. అది తిట్టుచుండగా పుట్టముంగివలె మారకయుండినాడు she reviled him but he stood stock still. పుట్టలమ్మ puṭṭal-amma. n. A village goddess.

(p. 776) puvvu , పువు or పూవు puvvu. [Tel.] n. A flower. A cock's wattles. The gills of a fish. Albugo, a kind of blindness. A cataract in the eye. కంటిలో పువ్వు లేచినది there is a cataract in the eye. An asterisk or star used in printing. Flowers or flower-like flames which are thrown out by certain fireworks. Vish. viii. 399. A thief in a candle. పువ్వురాయి a golden ball or ornament on a pagoda. BD. vii. 754. A proverb says వానిశిఖపువ్వు తుంపు వాడులేడు, i.e., no one can lay a finger upon him. P. iii. 91. ఔదల పువ్వువాడక మునుపే before his garland loses its bloom, i.e., with perfect ease. plu. పువ్వులు or పూలు. పూలవాన a slight shower, a few drops. పువ్వాటు puv-vāṭu. (పువ్వు+వాటు.) n. 'Like a flower' - i.e., waving or rocking backwards and forwards. పువ్వువలె కదలుట. పువ్వార puv-vāra. (పువ్వు+వార.) n. The blossoms of a palm tree. The inner part of fish's gills. పువ్వారుబోడి puvv-aru-bōḍi. n. A woman who is a beautiful as a flower. పువ్విలు puv-vilu. [పువ్వు+విలు.] n. The bow of flowers: Manmadha's weapon. పువ్విలుకాడు or పువ్విలుతుడు puv-vilu-kaḍu. n. An epithet of Manmadha. పువ్వుచిచ్చు or పువ్వుచేప puvtu-chiṭsṭsu. n. A large fish called the Veral. A species of Chuetonon: Russell's plate. 78. పువ్వుబోడి or పువ్వుబోణి puvvu-boḍi. n. A nymph, lady, fair woman. పువ్వుముడుపు or పూలముడుపు puvvu-muḍupa. n. (p. 941) maccaramu matstsaramu. [from Skt. మత్సరము.] n. Malice, hatred, envy, spite. మత్సరము, చలము, ద్వేషము, అసూయ. ఓర్వలేనితనము. 'మచ్రముమీర నొండొరు. జిచ్చరపిడుగులనుబో నిశితవిశిఖములన్.' M. III. vii. 138. మచ్చరికము matstsarikamu. n. Malice, envy, చలము, ద్వేషము. Rivalry, పోటి. మచ్చరికించు matstsari-kinṭsu. v. n. (p. 955) mayūramu mayūramu. [Skt.] n. The peacock. నెమలి. మయూరారి lit: the enemy of the peacock, a chameleon, a lizard. ఊసరవెల్లి. కొండమయూరము (Rox. i. 580.) a small tree or large shrub: Ardisia solanacca. మయూరశిఖ or మయూరశిఖండి mayūra-sikhi. n. The plant called Adiantum melanocanlum.

(p. 1005) mudra mudra. [Skt.] n. A seal: a seal ring, or signet. The stamp, print, or impression of a seal. A distinguishing mark impressed or burned upon a man or beast. Coinage. మునుపటిముద్ర రూపాయి a rupee of the old coinage. Gesticulation, attitude. మౌనముద్ర the seal of silence, i.e., silence. నిద్రాముద్ర the seal of sleep, i.e., sound sleep. జ్ఞానముద్ర a particular position of the fingers used in religious ceremonies. ముద్రలు marks impressed upon sand or clay placed on heaps of grain, the permanent marks made on the shoulders representing the insignia of Vishnu which are the shell and the wheel, &c. వాడు ముద్రాధారణము చేసికొనినాడు he received the seals, i.e., his shoulders were sealed with the shell and wheel of Vishṇu. మధ్యులు గోపిముద్రలు వేసికొందురు they wear patches of brown clay. వానికి శునకముద్ర వేసినారు they stamped him with the figure of a dog. ముద్రకర్త mudra-karta. n. An apparitor, the lowest local officer attached to a Guru or priest, ఆయా స్థలములలో గురువుయొక్క తాబేదారుగానుండేవాడు. ముద్రకోల mudra-kōla. n. A stamp to mark or seal with. The insignia of Vishnu, being the shell and wheel made in copper. ముద్రవేయు సాధనము, ముద్రధారణముచేయు సుదర్శన పాంచజన్యములు. ముద్రగడ mudra-gaḍa. n. A sceptre, a royal staff. 'తన ముద్రగడవేరుతలగ బట్టించి.' Pal. 450. A wooden stamp. ముద్రగరిటె mudra-gariṭe. n. A ladle shaped mace or large spoon borne in state before a person in authority, దేశాయీలు మొదలైనవారిముందర బిరుదుగా తీసికొనిపోవు గంటలుగల యిత్తడిగరిటె. ముద్రణము mudraṇamu. n. Setting one's seal to. ముద్రించుట. Dooming, giving a decision, సిద్ధాంతప్రతిపాదనము. 'కనకాద్రిముద్రణగ్రంథకర్త.' A. ii. 45. టీ మేరుపునందును తన ముద్ర చెల్లించువాడు. ముద్ర తీసివేయు mudra-tīsi-vēyu. v. a. Sealed, marked with a seal. ముద్రవేయబడిన. ముద్రాంకితుడు mudr-āankituḍu. adj. One who is impressed with shoulder. సమాశ్రయణము. చేసికొన్నవాడు. ముద్రాక్షరశాల mudr-āksharu-ṣāla. n.
