(p. 128) āśaucamu ā-ṣauchamu. [Skt. ఆశుచి] n. Pollution. అంటు. Mourning on the death of a relative; or imaginary pollution proceeding from the birth of a child; మయిల, సూతకము, (లేక) పురుడు. The former is commonly termed మృతాశౌచము the latter జాతాశౌచము. Hence ఆశౌచము పట్టు to go into mourning.

Purity, an unpolluted cloth, clean clothes. శుచి, ధౌతవస్త్రము. మడితోనుండు to be dressed in clean garments, as a Brahmin, when he takes his meals. ఎక్కడికిపోయినా నా మడితప్పను go where I may, I will not break the rule of purity. adj. Pure, clean. శుచిగానుండే. మడిబట్ట a clean cloth. మడికాసు maḍi-kāsu. n. Silver, వెండి. (Thus, white money was an old English word for silver.) మడికాసుకొండ the hill of silver, i.e., రజతగిరి. 'అదిసుధాకర బింబమా కాదు మడి కాసువన్నె వేలుపుటున్నువత్తిగాని.' P. iv. 251. మడిచేరు maḍi-chēru. n. The end of a woman's cloth tucked up behind. మడివేలు maḍi-vēlu. n. A washerman. చాకలి. మడిసంచి maḍi-sanchi. n. A pure or sacred bag. మడివస్త్రములను ఉంచుసంచి. మడిసంచి maḍi-sandi. n. The arm pit, చంక, కక్షము.

(p. 945) maḍugu, maḍuvu, maḍgu or మడ్వు maḍugu. [Tel.] v. n. To be kept down, అడగు. To be bent, వంగు, n. A proportion, ratio, గుణము. దీనికంటె అది యెన్ని మడుగులు హెచ్చు how many times is it larger than this? A basin, pond, lake, a deep or hollow place, a hole or pool in the bed of a river or tank. నదీమధ్యమందున్నహ్రదము, కొలను. A clean cloth. ధౌతవస్త్రము. Purity, శుచి, పరిశుద్ధి. A weight of eight viss, మణుగు. Humility, submissiveness, suppression of the desires, moderation. అడకువ, ఉపశాంతి. A fold of a leaf, ఆకుమడుపు. adj. Pure, పరిశుద్ధము. 'నిండారకమ్మదేనియ మజ్జనంబాడె, కడమపుప్పొడివన్నె మడుగుకట్టె.' P. iv. 243. అక్కడ నెత్తురు మడుగు కట్టియుండినది the blood was standing in pools. మడుచు maḍuṭsu. v. a. To fold, plait, bend, crease, clasp. To shut, or close (as a book.) మడుగజేయు. See మడగు. కాలు మడుచు lit. to sit down to pass water. మడుపు maḍupu. n. A fold or plait, మడత. A fold of betel leaf, ఆకుచుట్ట. Clean linen fresh from washing, మడుగువస్త్రము. 'మఠమునకేతెంచి మడుపులన్నియును కఠినముల్ గాకుండ ఘట్టించిమడువ.' BD. iv. 35. మడుపుకత్తి maḍupu-katti. n. A folding or clasp knife.

(p. 955) mayila , మైల or మకీల mayila. [Tel.] n. Dirt, foulness, uncleanness, actual or ceremonial impurity, dirty clothes. మురికి. అశుచి, కట్టివిడిచిన గుడ్డలు. చాకలవాడు ఇంకా మయిల యెత్తుకొనిపోలేదు the washerman has not yet taken away the dirty clothes. వారియింట్లో మయిలవచ్చినది their house has been defiled. adj. Dirty, foul, unclean, impure. మురికిగానుండే, అశుచియైన.

'ఒకటిక్రిందనొకటి నొనరలబ్ధముబెట్టి వలనుగ గుణియింపవరుసబెరుగు.' Vema. 1242. వలనైన valan-aina. adj. Agreeable, ఇంపైన. 'కసటువోపన్నీట గడిగిపువ్వులతావి, వలసైన కమ్మజవ్వాదివలపునెరపి.' T. iii. 131. టీ వలనైన, ఒప్పుగానుండెడి. వలన or వలనన్ valana. A postposition used as a case ending in the 5th case. By, by means of, with, from, వల్ల. 'నీవలనంబరమప్రీతుమడవైతి.' M. I. i. 175.

(p. 1192) viśuddhamu vi-ṣuddhamu. [Skt.] adj. Pure, clean, cleansed, purified, pious, holy, virtuous, నిర్మలమైన, పవిత్రమైన. విశుద్ధి vi-ṣuddhi. n. Purity, purification, holiness. పరిశుద్ధి, శుచిత్వము. విశుద్ధుడు vi-ṣuddhuḍu. n. One who is pure or holy. పరిశుద్ధుడు. 'సుద్దులుగావు విశుద్ధులై విన్న.' L. i. 205.
