(p. 9) aṇḍa anḍa [Tel.] n. Nearness; assistance, protection, patronage. ఆసరా, ఆశ్రయము. అండగోడ a buttress, a sloping wall, built to support another. ఆయన అండ చేరి ఉన్నాను I am under his protection. ఆయనను అండచేసికొనియున్నాను I look upon him as my supporter, I hold to him.

(p. 9) aṇḍagonu anḍa-gonu. [Tel.].v. t. To seek support in. ఆశ్రయించు. 'ఈతని నొకభంగి నండగొని తప్పుదుఁజావునకు.' Bhar. Ud. iv.

(p. 20) akkara akkara. [Tel.] n. Necessity, occasion, want, need, desire, అగత్యము. అక్కరతీర్చు to relieve from want. అది నాకక్కరలేదు I do not want it. దీనితో నీకేమి అక్కర what have you to do with this? నీవక్కడికి రావలసిన అక్కరయేమి what business had you to come there? అక్కరకొద్దీ మాట్లాడుట to speak as necessity demands. అది అక్కరకురాదు it will be of no use. వాడికి ఆ పని అక్కరపట్టలేదు he does not care for it. అక్కరకాడు one who is in need. అక్కరగలవాడు; అక్కరగండడు one who has an interest in an affair. శ్రద్ధగలవాడు; అక్కరపడు, అక్కరగొను to feel an interest in a thing. అక్కరకలిగియుండు, అక్కరపాటు a state of necessity. అక్కరపడుట.

(p. 28) accāḷi or అచ్చాళు aṭṭsāḷi. (K) One who lives a single life, an unmarried person. ఒంటిమనిషి, ఏకాంగిగా మండేవాడు, సంసారపు పీకులాటలేనివాడు అచ్చాళుగానుండు or అచ్చాళిగానుండు to be alone, to be quiet, free from perturbation. 'చారుశిలాముఖ్యజలజలోచనల, చేరికాబంధుల చెలులనీక్షణమె, పగరకుజొరరాక బహుదుర్గమార్గ, మగుకోహళమహర్షి యాశ్రమస్థలిని, జేరిచి మనము నిశ్చింతనేతెంచి, యారూఢిబలయుక్తి నచ్చాళిగాగ, అనికిసన్నద్ధులమై యందమవల.' Pātivratya. 35.

(p. 36) aḍiyaritanamu service, slavery. 'ఇంకనడియరితనమున నప్పాండవుల నాశ్రయింపగజాలనే నెక్కడేని' భార సౌప్తిక: i. 7.

(p. 41) ativāsamu ati-vāsamu. [Skt.] The fast observed on the day preceding the ceremony in which oblations are presented to the manes of departed ancestors. శ్రాద్ధమునకు ముందు ఒక్క ప్రొద్దు ఉండే దినము.

(p. 45) advandvuḍu a-dvandvuḍu. [Skt.] n. A philosopher, i.e., he who despises the pairs of opposites, such as heat and cold, good and evil, pleasure and pain, &c. నిస్సంగుడు. 'అందుండున్ ద్వయసద్మ పద్మవదనుండద్వంద్వుడ శ్రాంతయోగాంధూబద్ధ మధుర్విషద్విరదుడ న్వర్థాభిధానుండు.' A. i. 77.

(p. 47) adhiṣṭhiñcu adhi-sṭhinṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To reside, be in. ఆశ్రయించి ఉండు, ఆవహించి ఉండు. అధిష్ఠానము adhi-sṭhānamu. [Skt.] n. Abode, residence, residing in. The place of abode. ఆశ్రయించి ఉండడము, ఉనికిపట్టు. అధిష్ఠానదేవత n. a tutelary or guardian deity, a presiding deity. విద్యాధిష్ఠానదేవత n. the patron of learning. అధిష్ఠాన n. One who takes up a residence.

(p. 47) adhyayanamu adhyayanamu. [Skt.] n. Study, reading, especially of the sacred books. గురుముఖాను పూర్వశ్రవణము, పఠనము, The word అధ్యయనము is commonly used for the study of the Vedas or for the Veda itself thus: ఆ చిన్నవాడు నాలుగేండ్ల నుంచి అధ్యయనము చేయుచున్నాడు the boy has been studying the Vedas for four years. నాకు అధ్యయనము రాదు I have not studied the Vedas.

(p. 47) adhyavasāyamu adhyavasāyamu. [Skt.] n. Perṣeverance, devotedness. ఉత్సాహము, ప్రయత్నము, పట్టు, పూనిక, శ్రద్ధ. In rhetoric, concise and forcible language.

(p. 51) anāśrayamu an-āṣrayamu. [Skt.] Defence-lessness. అనాశ్రితుడు having none to depend upon oneself.

(p. 63) apasvaramu apa-svaramu. [Skt.] n. Mispronunciation: a false note or discord in music. తప్పు ఉచ్చారణ, సంగీతములో తప్పు స్వరము. అపస్వరము adj. Inharmonious, discordant. శ్రావ్యము కాని, సుస్వరము కాని.

(p. 69) abhinivēśamu abhi-nivēṣamu. [Skt.] n. Ardour, zeal, enthusiasm, earnestness, పట్టు, శ్రద్ధ, చొరవ.

(p. 81) aru aru. [Tel.] v. n. To be lost, be ruined or destroyed, be broken. తగ్గు నశించు, ఛేడమగు, తెగు, లేకపోవు. 'శ్రమమ్మర.' R. iii. 41. 'అరన్ బాలుండెక్కడ బండియెక్కడ నభోభాగంబు పైబెంపరన్ కాలందన్నుట యెక్క డాపడుచుల్.' BD. vii. 11.

(p. 88) alayiñcu alayinṭsu.[Tel.] v. a. To trouble, harass, weary, fatigue. శ్రమపెట్టు, బడలించు. 'అందరికి నన్నిరూపులై యతులగతుల రతులవలయించె.' N. ix. 422. 'సీతనలయించి వచ్చి నాచేత బొలిసి మాయలేడన్ని శాచరు మరుగుసొచ్చి.' R. vi. 30. అలయిక, అలత, అలపు alayika. [Tel.] n. Fatigue, harassment, weariness. బడలిక, గాసి.
