(p. 27) agrahāramu agra-hāramu. [Skt.] n. A street or village inhabited by brahmins. A village of which the old and hereditary cultivators are brahmins. A village granted to brahmins by government for charitable or religious purposes; either rent free, or at a favourable assessment. The conditions on which these villages are held are specified thus, సర్వాగ్రహారము a village free from all tax. శ్రోత్రియాగ్రహారము a village granted at a certain fixed assessment. జోడి అగ్రహారము, or బిల్మకా అగ్రగారము or, కట్టుబడి అగ్రహారము a village granted at a rent which fluctuates with the produce. అగ్రహారికుడు a brahmin belonging to such a village. అగ్రహారమనుభవించేవాడు he who enjoys a village free from tax.

(p. 74) amāni amānī. [H.] Land in charge of a revenue collector on the part of the government, as distinguished from that which is farmed out. అమానీగ్రామములు villages under the immediate care of a collector. ఆముఠా అమానీ అయిన తరువాత after the land was taken into the collector's own charge. ఆశ్రోత్రియమును అమానీదాఖలు చేసుకొన్న తరువాత after the land held on private tenure was taxed. అమానిభూములు Crown lands, lands that are in the hands of a collector on behalf of Government. అమానీబాజీబాబు sundry farms under a Collector's management. పన్ను లేకుండా మేడిపాలు ఇచ్చే భూమి.

(p. 456) chāndasa chhāndasa. [Skt.] adj. Free, subject to no rule, sacred: as the style of some ancient books which being inspired, the broken metres cannot be corrected according to prosody. ఛాందసము cḥānda-samu. n. Silliness, the stupidity of a mere bookworm, simplicity, awkwardness. That part of an almanac which lays down the (వైదికము) diurnal rites: ఛాందసుడు chhāndasuḍu. n. A textualist, a ritualist: శ్రోత్రియుడు. A mere silly book-worm: a monk.

(p. 1203) vṛttamu vṛittamu. adj. Round, circular, globular, full orbed. గుండ్రని, వట్రువైన. n. Practice, custom. నడవడి, నడత. A circle. మండలము. A kind of metre of verse. పద్యభేదము. వృత్తాంతము vṛittān-tamu. n. Intelligence, news, tidings, a story, narrative. Detail, particulars. వివరణము, వార్త, జనరవము. సమాచారము, ప్రస్తావము. వృత్తి vṛitti. n. Being, existence. Livelihood, means of subsistence, profession, conduct. జీవనోపాయము, జీవనము, వర్తనము, కాయికము, కులకాయికము, నడవడిక. A share in a village, granted to a Brahmin in free gift. శ్రోత్రియములోనొకపాలు. A certain style of composition, అభిధ, లక్షణ. వ్యంజస, లేక, కైశికి. అరభటి, సాత్వతి and భారతి. వృత్తిదారుడు vṛitti-dāruḍu. n. A proprietor of small grants of land, made free or rent or at a light rent, to Brahmins only.

(p. 1264) śrōta ṣrōta. [Skt.] n. A hearer, an auditor. వినేవాడు. M. XII. vi. 188. శ్రోతవ్యము ṣrōtavyamu. adj. Audible, fit to be heard or listened to. వినదగిన. శ్రోత్రము ṣrōtra-mu. n. The ear. చెవి. శ్రోత్రియుడు ṣrōtriyuḍu. n. A Brahmin well versed in the Vedas. He who is modest, docile, or well behaved. శిష్టుడు, వేదము బాగా వచ్చిన బ్రాహ్మణుడు, ఛాందసుడు. శ్రోత్రియము or శ్రోత్రియ గ్రామము ṣrōtriyamu. n. A village held at a favourable assessment, a present or donation of a village made to learned man.
