(p. 709) pabbamu pabbamu. [Tel.] n. A feast. పండుగ. A feast at particular periods of the year such as the equinoxes, &c. when offerings are made by the Hindus to the manes of their ancestor. సంక్రాంత్యాదులు. A festival, ఉత్సవము. Hospitality to guests, ఆతిథ్యము.

(p. 723) parvamu parvamu. [Skt.] n. A knot, a joint in a cane or body. గణుపు. A feast or annual festival at a certain division of the year. A name given to certain days in the lunar month, as the full and change of the moon, and the 8th and 14th of each half month, పండుగ. పంచపర్వములు the five holidays in a month, i.e., అష్టమి, చతుర్దశి, కునూవు, పూర్ణిమ, రవిసంక్రాంతి. పంచపర్వోత్సవము is a feast celebrated in one of these holidays. A sub-division of a book. The Mahābhārata is divided into eighteen (Purvamulu) books. నెత్రపర్వము a joyful sight, a feast for the eyes. పర్వసంధి parva-sandhi. n. The time that divides a new or full moon and the next day.

(p. 800) poṅgali or పొంగళి pongali. [Tel.] n. Rice boiled with milk. పొంగలిపండుగ a Hindu festival at which this dish is used, the Pongal feast, సంక్రాంతి, సంక్రమణము, సంక్రమాణము. చక్కారపొంగలి a savoury mess of rice, split pulse, spices, and sugar; a sacrifice of a goat or a fowl to a village goddess. పొంగలిపెట్టిరి they offered a bloody sacrifice. H. v. 15.

(p. 938) makaramu makaramu. [Skt.] n. An alligator. మొసలి. The sign of the Zodiac called Capricorn, రాశిభేదము. మకరసంక్రమణము or మకరసంక్రాంతి the passing of the sun into Capricon. This is observed as the Pongul feast. పొంగలిపండుగ. మకరకంఠి makara-kanṭhi. n. A necklace shaped like an alligator. మొసలిమూతులుగల కంఠాభరణము. మకరకుండలము makara-kunḍalamu. n. An earring bearing the figure of a crocodile's head. మొసలిముఖము గల కర్ణభూషణము. మకరతోరణము makara-tōranamu. n. A festoon of cloth shaped like a crocodile, మొసలి మొదలైన రూపములను చిత్రవిచిత్రముగా కుట్టి వీధులలో కట్టే తోరణము. మకరాంకుడు, మకరకేతనుడు or మకరధ్వజుడు makarān-kuḍu. n. An epithet of Manmadha, whose banner is an alligator. మన్మథుడు. మకరాలయము ma-kar-ālayamu. n. The sea. సముద్రము. మకరి makari. n. A crocodile, or alligator. మొసలి. మకరిక or మకరికాపత్రము maka-rika. n. Figures of crocodiles drawn in gold dust on the cheeks or breasts of women, చెక్కిళ్లమీదను రొమ్ములమీదను వ్రాసే మొసలిఆకారము. 'మకరీమయరేఖ లురస్థలంబునన్ భావజచిహ్న ముద్రలయిభాసిల.' Vij. Vil. xi. 97. మకరివల makari-vala. n. A snare to catch crocodiles.

(p. 1271) saṅkramamu san-kramamu. [Skt.] n. Difficult progress, advance through difficulties. The transit of a planetary body through the zodiac, గమనము, గతి, సూర్యాదిగ్రహములు ఒకరాశినుండి మరియొకరాశికి పోవడము. A causeway, a bridge, వంతెన. సంక్రమణము san-kramaṇamu. n. The passage of the sun or planetary body from one sign of the zodiac into another. సూర్యాది గ్రహములు ఒకరాశిని విడిచి మరియొక రాశికి పోవడము. సంక్రమించు san-kraminṭsu. v. a. To encroach on, ఆక్రమించు. To enter, ప్రవేశించు. సంక్రాంతి san-krānti. n. The transit of the sun or a planetary body from one sing of the zodiac into another; particularly applied to the passage of the sun from Sagittarius to Capricornus in January when the Hindus celebrate the Pongal (పొంగలి) feast సూర్యాదిగ్రహములు ఒక రాశిలోనుండి మరియొక రాశికి పోవడము, ముఖ్యముగా సూర్యుడు మకరములో ప్రవేశించేది మకరసంక్రాంతి.
