(p. 275) kāru kāru. [Tel.] n. A season, time of the year. కాలము. చిన్నకారు childhood, youth. తొలికారు the opening of the year. కారు మెరుపు or తొలికరుమెరుపు or క్రొక్కారు మెరుంగు vernal lightning తొలివానకాలపు మెరుపు. నవకారు Spring. ఈ సంవత్సరములో ముక్కారులున్ను పండినవి the three seasons have yielded crops this year. ఒక కారు కోడిపిల్లలను అమ్మివేసినాను I have sold one brood of chickens. నాలుగు కారులగిత్త a heifer four years old. కారు కాలము, ఫలకాము harvest time. కారు పంట, a crop that depends on the rain. వర్షాకాలమందు నీరాసరానుపండే పల్లపుపంట, కారువడ్లు rice grown in the hot season, ఎండకాలమందు పండే వరి ధాన్యము. కారువాయిధర price current of grain at the time of reaping. A plough-share. పటుకారు or నీరుకారు tongs, a pair of pincers. Darkness, jetty blackness. నలుపు, చీకటి. కారుకమ్మెను darkness came on. A forest కారుచిచ్చు wild or forest fire. The plu. కారులు, అనగా వదరులు hard language; reviling. పరుషవచనము; vain talk వ్యర్థవచనము. కారులు lies అబద్ధములు. A stain కర్రు. Ignorance అజ్ఞానము.

(p. 642) nāḍu nāḍu. [Tel.] n. A day. Time. That day, ఆనాడు. That time, ఆకాలము చిన్ననాడు when he was young, in infancy. ఒకనాటికీ వినడు he will never consent. ఆనాడు at that time. తాతనాడు in my grand-father's time. నాటినుండి since that time. తండ్రినాటనుంచి from the time of his father. సంవత్సరమునాటికి చెల్లించే రూకలు the money payable at the end of the year. నాటివారు the people of that time. నాటిపుస్తకము the book of those times. అది యెన్నాళ్లనాడు how long ago was it? నాలుగేండ్లనాడు four years back. నాటికి on that day, by that time, to that day. నాడే oh I dare say! to be sure! నాటిపని the matter you wot of, you know what I mean. ఇది శానా దినములనాటిది this is very ancient. నానాడు nā-nāḍu. adv. Day by day, now and then. నానాటికి nā-nāṭiki. adv. Day by day, by degrees.

(p. 954) manmathuḍu manmathuḍu. [Skt.] n. Manmadha, the Hindu Cupid, అనంగుడు. మన్మథ manmatha. n. The name of a Telugu year. ఒక సంవత్సరమునకు పేరు. మన్మథబాణాలు the arrows of Love, the name of a particular kind of rice, or flower. 'మన్మథబాణాలు మరునంపుమొలకలు.' H. iv. 155. మన్మథపత్రిక manmatha-patrika. n. A billet doux or love letter.

(p. 1136) varṣamu varshamu. [Skt.] n. Rain, a shower, వాన. A year, సంవత్సరము. The state of being a eunuch, పేడితనము. వర్షమువెలిసినది the rain has ceased. వర్షాభావము want of rain. వర్షకాలము or వర్షాకాలము varsha-kālamu. n. The rains or rainy season. వానకాలము. వర్షణము varshaṇamu. n. Raining, వానకురియడము. Sprinkling. నీళ్లు చిలకరిమచడము. వర్షధరుడు or వర్షవరుడు varsha-dharuḍu. n. A eunuch. ఖొజ్జావాడు. వర్షాభువు varshā-bhuvu. n. Lit. That which is born in the rainy season, i.e., a frog, కప్ప. A. iv. 113. వర్షాశనము varṣh-āsanamu. n. An aunuity, or yearly maintenance. సంవత్సరమునకొకసారి జీవనార్థముగానిచ్చు సొమ్ము. వర్షించు varshinṭsu. v. n. To rain. వానకురియు. నెత్తురు వర్షింప while it rained blood. Jaimini. vii. 47. వర్షీయసి varshīyasi. n. A very aged woman. ఏండ్లుచెల్లినది, ముసలిది. 'ప్రత్యఙ్ముభోచ్చలద్రాత్రి వర్షీయసీపలితపాండురకేశబంధమనగ.' వర్షీయుడు varshīyuḍu. n. A very old man. వర్షోపలము varsh-ōpalamu. n. A hailstone, వడగల్లు.

(p. 1332) siḍi siḍi. [Tel.] n. The cross beam of a picota or water lift. ఏతపుమ్రాను. 'క ఏతపుసిడిదావంగిన, బాతాళపునీరుదెచ్చు.' A hook or goad. A machine on which men were formerly suspended in the air by a hook passed through the sinews of the back and swung around in honor of the goddess పోలేరమ్మ. గంపసిడి a basket in which a devotee (instead of being hooked up) is seated and swung about. మ్రొక్కుచెల్లించుకొనువారు కొందరు వీపున తగిలించుకొని ఆడే గాలపుమాను. ఈ దేవతకు ప్రతిసంవత్సరమును మేకపోతు సిడి ఒకటియును నరసిడి ఒకటియును జరుపుచుందురు in honor of this goddess they swing a goat and a man every year. సిళ్లు or సిడులు silḷu n. An elephant goad, బరికోల. 'ఏనుంగునకుసిళ్లుసూపినట్టు.' M. IV. v. 92. 'కనుగొనిసాత్యకి యేనుంగునకు సిళ్లుసూపినట్లు కోపంబున.' ib. VI. ii. 311. 'ఆగంగకున్ వెలయన్ వేటలు, బోనముల్ సిడులు గావించెన్ సుతోత్పత్తికై.' H. ii. 100.
