(p. 21) akṣaramu aksharamu. [Skt. lit Eternal. imperishable.] n. A letter, a single syllable, a character of the alphabet, hand writing. A single syllable, whether of one letter or more. Thus the word సంస్కృతం Sam-skru-tam is termed a word of three letters. ఏకాక్షరము a monosyllable. సంయుక్తాక్షరము two or more letters united in one syllable, as స్త్రీ wherein four letters are united. త్య్రక్షరి try-ak-shari; the sacred or mystic syllable (ఓం AUM, or O'M a name of the Deity) that contains three letters. అక్షరజ్ఞుడు a man of letters. అక్షరాభ్యాసము beginning to learn the alphabet or the first principles of a language; మంత్రాక్షరము a cypher of syllable used in magic. ఇది ఆయన అక్షరము కాదు this is not his handwriting. నీవద్ద అప్పుగా తీసుకొన్న రూ 300 అక్షరాల మున్నూరు రూపాయీలు i.e., 'Rs. 300 (three hundred Rupees.)' here the same sum is denoted in writing as well as in figures. వాడు నిరక్షరకుక్షి he is an illiterate man. వానికి నోట్లో అక్షరాలు లేచియున్నవి his mouth is inflammed. అక్షరవిన్యాసము, the array of letters, writing.

(p. 1160) vāsana vāsana. [Skt.] n. Smell, scent, odour, fragrance. Flavour. పరిమళము. Notion, recollection from memory. Fancy, imagination. మునుపు అనుభవించినదాని స్మరణ. ఇది వాని పూర్వజన్మవాసన this is the influence of his former birth. వానికి సంస్కృతవాసనలేదు he has not the slightest acquaintance with Sanskrit. 'ఉదరార్భకజన్మధురీణవాసనల్.' R. iii. 95. వాసనకొడుపు a scented wick. పెద్దఊదువత్తి. వాసనచూచు vāsana-ṭsūṭsu. v. a. To smell. వాసనపట్టు to scent, to catch the scent of, to trace, to track. వాసనవేయు or వాసనకొట్టు vāsana-vēyu. v. n. To smell, to emit an odour: to stink. పరిమళించు, కంపుకొట్టు.

(p. 1255) śuddhamu ṣuddhamu. [Skt.] adj. White, తెల్లని. Pure, clean, stainless, పవిత్రమైన, నిర్దోషమైన. Unmixed, unadulterated; entire, complete. Total, downright, absolute, mere. పరిష్కృతమైన. శుద్ధసంస్కృతము pure Sanskrit. శుద్ధప్రతి a faultless or true copy. శుద్ధఅబద్ధము an utter falsehood. శుద్ధలోభి a perfect miser. In music it means devoid of variations: as శుద్ధకాంభోజి the melody or theme of the Kāmbōdi air. శుద్ధక్రయము absolute sale. శుద్ధక్రయశాసనము a written instrument of absolute sale. n. Whiteness, తెలుపు. The bright lunar fortnight. శుద్ధపంచమి the fifth day of the bright lunar fortnight. శుద్ధముగా ṣuddkamu-gā. adv. Wholly, entirely, completely, uttterly. బొత్తిగా, యావత్తు శుద్దాంతము ṣuddh-āntamu. n. A harem or seraglio; the private or women's apartments in a palace. అంతఃపురము The King's wife or concubine అంతఃపురరస్త్రీ. శుద్ధి ṣud-dhi. n. Purity, cleanness, purification, పవిత్రత, నిర్మలత్వము. వాక్శుద్ధి purity of speech. హస్తకుద్ధి successful practice, as that of a skillful physician అత్మశుద్ధి or భావశుద్ధి spiritual purity, cleanness of heart. చింతమల్లెలు తెప్పించి అతనికి దేహశుద్ధి చేయించినారు they got a cane and purified his body, i.e., gave him a thrashing. శుద్ధీకరింపు ṣuddhī-karimpu. n. Cleansing, correction, emendation. పవిత్రీకరణము. శుద్ధుడు ṣud-dhuḍu. n. A pure or holy man.

(p. 1285) saṃskariñcu sam-skarinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To reform, improve, repair, make better. బాగుచేయు. To purify, sanctify, consecrate, శుద్ధిచేయు, ప్రతిష్ఠించు. To burn a corpse (శవమును) దహనముచేయు. సంస్కారము sam-skāramu. n. The act of making better or improving, reformation. చక్కచేయుట. The power of memory, any faculty or capacity. ఆనుభూతార్థసంస్మృతి. A purificatory or dedicatory rite or ceremony burning on the funeral pile, దహనము, కాల్చడము. Purification, శోధించడము, పన్నీరు పువ్వులను నీళ్లతో బట్టీలో వేసి అగ్నిసంస్కారము చేసి దించుదురు they put the roses in a still filled with water and by the application of fire make rose water. ఆ శవమును సంస్కారముచేసి వేసినారు they burned the corpse. సంస్కృతము sam-skṛitamu. adj.
