(p. 928) bhairavamu bhairavamu. [Skt.] n. Frightfulness. భయానకరసము. Darkness, or swimming of the eyes. కన్నులకు భైరవముకమ్మినది a darkness came over my eyes, I was dazzled. adj. Terrible, frightful. బైరవకత్తి bhairava-katti. n. A large heavy two edged sword. 'భైరవకత్తులు పట్టుకరాగా.' Pal. 259. భైరవి or భైరి bhairavi. n. The Peregrine Falcon, Falco peregrinus. జుట్టుభైరవి the Crested Hawk Eagle. భూతభైవి an epithet of the goddess Káli or Durga who is the same as Isis or Venus. పార్వతి. A shrub called Premna serratifolia. Rox. iii. 77. భైరవుడు bhairavuḍu. n. A name of Siva, but more especially an inferior manifestation or form of the deity, eight of which, are called by the common name భైరవుడు, and are severally termed అసితాంగభైరవుడు, రురుభైరవుడు, దండభైరవుడు, క్రోధభైరవుడు, ఉన్మతభైరవుడు, కుపితభైరవుడు, భీషణబైరవుడు, సంహారభైరవుడు, ఆకాశభైరవుడు, (a form of Siva, corresponding to Anubis or Osiris.)

(p. 1168) vijayamu vi-jayamu. [Skt.] n. A great conquest, a complete triumph, a great victory. మిక్కిలి గెలుపు. This word is used in the titles of several poems, and can be translated 'Adventures' or 'Tale,' as తారాశశాంకవిజయము the adventures of Tāra and Sasanka, similar to those of Stella and the Genius. విజయ vi-jaya. n. The name of a Telugu year. విజయదశమి vijaya-daṣami. n. The tenth day of the month Asvayuja, being the day after the festival to Sarasvati, when all books, arms and instruments of trade are worshipped. విజయముచేయు or విజయంజేయు vi-jayamu-chēyu. v. n. To come, వచ్చు. To proceed; deign or condescend to come or go. వేంచేయు, విచ్చేయు, వచ్చు, పోవు. ఈవేళ మాయింటికి విజయము చేస్తారా will you do me the honor to come to my house? will you favour me with your company. 'దేవదేవుండువిజయంబు చేసిన యీస్వప్నంబు.' A. pref. 21. 'విద్విషత్సంహారంబునకు విజయంబు చేయుమనుటయు.' lb. iv. 111. విజయస్తంభము vijaya-stambhimu. n. A pillar of victory. జయించి నాటినస్తంభము. 'పొట్టునురివిజయస్తంభోపలోట్టంకిత.' A. iv. 345. విజయి vi-jayi. adj. Victorious, triumphant. జయమును పొందిన, జయముగల. n. A conqueror. జయించినవాడు. విజయాభవ vijayī-bhava. interj. Hail to so and so, here's to the health of so and so. Hallelujah. సర్వోత్కృష్టుడవుగా నుండును. విజయుడు vi-jayudu. n. A name of Arjuna. అర్జునుడు. విజయవిలాసము a poem in his honour. Jaya and Vijaya are the names of the two porters at the gate of the palace of Vishnu, విష్నువుయొక్క ద్వారపాలకులు.

(p. 1219) vēṭa vēṭa. [Tel. from వేయు and వేటు.] n. Hunting, the chase. మృగయ, అడవిలోని మృగపక్షులను చంపడము. A sheep or goat set apart for slaughter. గొర్రె, మేక, మేకపోతు, పొట్టేలు. 'పూజించెనాగంగకున్ వెలయన్ వేటలుబోనముల్ సిడులుగావించెన్.' H. ii. 100. వేటకాడు, వేటగిరి or వేటరి vēṭa-kāḍu. n. A huntsman, మృగయుడు. A slaughterer, సంహారకుడు. వేటకుక్క vēṭa-kukka. n. A hound, a hunting dog. మృగాదులనుపట్టే కుక్క. వేటపల్లె vēṭa-palle. n. A village inhabited by huntsmen, బోయపల్లె. వేటపిట్ట vēṭa-piṭṭa. n. A fowler's decoy bird. దీమపుపిట్ట. వేటపోతు vēṭa-pōtu. n. A ram. పొట్టేలు. వేటాడు or వేటలాడు veṭ-āḍu. v. n. To hunt, to follow the chase. అడవిలో పక్షులను మృగములను చంపు. To kill, slaughter, చంపు, వధించు.

(p. 1367) sthitamu sthitamu. [Skt.] adj. Standing, staying, being, situated. ఉన్న, నిలుచున్న స్థితి sthiti. n. State, condition. Existence. Property, estate. ఉనికి, దశ. అవస్థ, ఆస్తి, సృష్టి, స్థితి సంహారములు creation, existence and destruction. భూస్థితి landed property. స్థితిమంతుడు sthiti-mantuḍu. n. A man of property, a well-to-do man, ఆస్తిపరుడు, ధనవంతుడు.

Killed, slain, defeated, struck, hit, destroyed, blasted, blotted out. చంపబడ్డ, కొట్టబడ్డ, నాశము చేయబడ్డ, ధ్వంసము చేయబడ్డ, చెరుపబడ్డ, పోగొట్టబడ్డ. హతశేషులు the survivors. హతశ్రీ having lost fortune, ruined. n. Ruin, destruction, killing, నాశనము, సంహారము. హతముచేయు hatamu-chēyu. v. a. To kill, destroy, demolish. నాశముచేయు, సంహారము చేయు. హతహతముగా, హతహతములుగా or హతాహతముగా hata-hatamu-gā. adv. Destructively, violently, outrageously. ధ్వసమయ్యేటట్టుగా, అఘోరముగా.' హతహతములు గాగ పోటులాడున్ బళువుల్.' G. vii. 84. 'అని తరుగముసెక్కియంత వేగమున, అశ్వంబుదోలెను హతహతముగాను.' Pal. 496. హతాశుడు hat-āṣuḍu. n. He who is disappointed. విఫలమైన కోరికగలవాడు. హతాహతము hatā-hatamu. n. Destruction, violent contention. ధ్వంసము, మహత్తైనజగడము. హతి hati. n. Striking, smiting, a blow. కొట్టడము, దెబ్బ. 'విషాణహతిచే.' P. i. 241. హతుడు hatuḍu. n. One who has been struck, smitten, destroyed, or killed, One who is void of, or bereft of. కొట్టబడ్డవాడు, చంపబడ్డవాడు, విహీనుడు.
