(p. 809) poddu or ప్రొద్దు poddu. [Tel.] n. The sun. Time, period. బారెడుపొద్దు ఎక్కినప్పుడు when the sun was about two yards high, i.e., about 8 A. M. పొద్దుతిరుగుడు పువ్వు the sun flower or heliotrope. రెండుగడియల పొద్దుఉండగా while two hours of daylight yet remained. శానాపొద్దుపోయినది it is very late. పొద్దున early in the morning. పొద్దుపొడిచెను the sun arose. పొద్దుగూకె (or క్రుంకెను) the sun has set. పొద్దు గూకులు the livelong day, all day long. పొద్దుపుచ్చు to while away time. పొద్దుపోకుండా ఉన్నది the time passes slowly, or it is very dull. పొద్దు సరసముగా గడిపితిమి we passed the time merrily. పొద్దుతిరుగు బాటున at noon. చాలా పొద్దుగలుగలేచినాడు he rose very early. ఒక్క పొద్దు ఉండు to take only one meal a day, to fast for a period. ఇప్పుడు (lit: ఈ+పొద్దు) now. అప్పుడు (ఆ+పొద్దు.) then. ఆపెకు ఇప్పుడు పొద్దులు She is near her time. దేన్ని పొద్దు పోకచేస్తివి surely you did this out of mere idleness!

(p. 884) bittaramu bittaramu. [Tel.] n. A flash of light. తళుకు. Brightness. A coquettish prank, an amorous gesture, శృంగారచేష్ట, ఒయ్యారము. 'బెళుకుబేడసమీలబిత్తరంబులకంటె.' N. ix. 404. బిత్తరముగ bittaramu-ga. adv. Flashingly. ప్రకాశముగా. Gracefully, సొగసుగా. 'సరిగె మెరుంగుబంగరువు చందురు కానిపటంబులూడ్చి బిత్తరముగ చల్వపావడలు దాల్చి.' N. ix. 401. బిత్తరములాడు to be bright, ప్రకాశించు. బిత్తరి bittari. n. A coquette, a flirt. A beautiful woman. ప్రౌఢస్త్రీ, శృంగార చేష్టలుగల ఆడుది. A woman, ఆడుది. 'బిత్తరులాహలాయుధునిబిల్వగ.' (p. 1045) mōṭu mōṭu. [Tel.] n. An obstinate person. మూర్ఖుడు, మ్రోడు. A stupid person, or blockhead. మూఢుడు, మూఢస్త్రీ. A male horse, మగగుర్రము. A country bred horse, తట్టువగుర్రము. A stump, block, trunk. మోడు, నరకగా మిగిలిన కాళ్లుచేతులు మొదలైనవి, మొద్దు.' కాలినమోటువంటి కొరగాని శరీరము.' Vish. ii. 143. A false human figure placed before a sow, పందికెదుట మనుష్యాకారముగా నిలిపిన కపటలక్ష్యము. adj. Dull, stupid, simple, rude, coarse. boorish, uncivilised, vulgar, మడ్డి. మూఢమైన, మూర్ఖమైన, మోటుసరసము bear's play, practical jokes, rough romping. మోటాసపడు mōṭ-āsa-paḍu. (మోటు + ఆసపడు.) v. a. To aim at. 'సీ సటలెత్తుకొనియెత్తు కిటినైనమోటాస పడియేయబొడుతునీపాదమాన.' Swa. iv. 44. టీ మోటాసపడియేయ, మాటు చేసికొని బాణములచేతవేయను.

(p. 1068) rasamu rasamu. [Skt.] n. Juice, fluid, liquid, extract, essence. Taste, flavour, రుచి. Taste, sentiment, emotion, passion, affection, humour. Quicksilver, పాదరసము. The షడ్రసములు or six flavours are మధురము or తీసి sweet; ఆమ్లము or పులుసు sour; తిక్తము or వగరు astringent; లవణము or ఉప్పు salt; కటువు or కారము pungent; కషాయము or చేదు bitter. రసఖండమైనభూమి or రసవత్తైనభూమి strong soil, which is not exhausted. నీరసమైనభూమి land that is exhausted. కోపరసము the spirit of wrath. దయారసము the spirit of love, kind feelings. ఈ పద్యములో రసములేదు this is a tasteless verse. విరసమైనమాటలు rude language. The nine రసములు or humours produce the following స్థాయీభావములు (symptoms.) 1. శృంగారరసము (love) produces రతి enjoyement. 2. నీరసము (honour) produces ఉత్సాహము daring. 3. కరుణారసము (mercy) begets విస్మయము marvel. 5. హాస్యరసము (merriment) produces హాస్యభావము laughter. 6. భయానకరసము (timidity) leads to భయము fright. 7. బీభత్సరసము (austerity) begets జుగుప్స sarcasm. 8. రౌద్రరసము (wrath) leads to క్రోధము cruelty. 9. శాంతరసము. (gentleness) produces శమభావము calmness. రసకర్పూరము rasa-karpūramu. n. A white sublimate or muriate of mercury, కర్పూరరసము. రసగుండు rasa-gunḍu. n. A ball coated with quicksilver, రసముపూరినగుండు. రసజ్ఞు rasa-gnya. n. The tongue, నాలుక. రజజ్ఞత rasa-gnyata. n. Skill, judgement, taste, critical discernment, తెలివి. రసజ్ఞుడు rasa-gnyuḍu. n. A man of taste, a critic. గుణదోషములనెరిగినవాడు. రసదాడి or రసదాళి rasa-dāḍi. n. Sugar cane. చెరుకు. 'మమధురస్థూలదాడిమబీజములతోడ, దసరారురసదాడిగనెలతోడ.' A. ii. 85. A fine sort of plantain. అరటిలో భేదము. రసదాళిక rusa-dāḷika. n. A kind of sugar, చెరుకుదినుసు. రసన rasana. n. The tongue., నాలుక. రసనేంద్రియము rasan-ēndriyamu. n. The sense of taste. రసవతి rasa-vati. n. A kitchen. వంటఇల్లు. రసవర్గములు rasa-vargamulu. n. plu. The various condiments or ingredients such as salt, pepper, &c. సంబారములు. రసవాదము rasa-vādamu. n. Alchemy, chemistry, పాదరసమునుకట్టి బంగారుచేయువిద్య. రసవాది rasa-vādi. n. An alchemist, a chemist, రసమునుకట్టి బంగారుచేయువాడు. రససిందూరము rasa-sindūramu. n. A sort of factitious cinnabar, made with zinc, mercury, blue vitriol and nitre, ఔషధవిశేషము. రససిద్ధి rasa-siddhi. n. Alchemy, రసవాదము. 'ధమనీయఖంబున గ్రాలించిమెరుంగుపసిడి గనెరససిద్దిన్.' R. vi. 10. రసాంజనము a kind of collyrium. అంజనవిశేషము. రసాతలము rasā-talamu. n. A name of Hades. పాతాళలోకము. రసాభాసము ras-ābhāsamu. n. Bad taste, inelegance. adj. Disagreeable, disgusting. విరసమైన. ఆ శ్లోకమును దిద్ది రసాబాసము చేసినాడు in correcting the verse he has spoiled it, he showed bad taste in correcting it. రసాభాసముగా మాట్లాడినాడు he spoke coarsely. ఆయిల్లు నిండా రసాభాసముగా నున్నది that house is very disagreeable. ఊరేగుచుండగా వాన వచ్చి అంతా రసాభాసమైపోయినది when the marriage procession was going on, there was a shower and everything was upset. రసాయనము ras-āyanamu. n. A panacea, a medicine preventing old age and prolonging life, జరావ్యాధిహరౌషధము. Butter milk, sweet curds, గోరసము, చల్ల. Poison, విషము. 'తననచో మాధుర్యమెనయు నా యివి చూడుమన్నట్లు మేలిరసాయనములు, ఒప్పుగా గిన్నియలనుంచి యపచరించి.' T. iii. 18. టీ రసాయనములు, తీసిగలిగిన పదార్థములు. రసాల rasāla. n. A pudding or mess of curds, mixed up with sugar and spices. పెరుగులో ననేక ద్రవ్యములు వేసి చేసినది. రసాలము rasālamu. n. The sugar cane, చెరుకు. Also, the sweet mango tree, తియ్యమామిడి చెట్టు. రసావళ్లు ras-āvaḷḷu. n. A kind of cakes. 'తన యింటనప్పుడాయితమొనరించినకమ్మదావు లొలుకురసావళ్లునుమినుపవడలు జాపట్లునుగోదుమ పిండివంటలున్ గలవనినన్.' Vish. iii. 377. రసి or రసిక rasi. [Tel.] n. The pus, or matter of a sore, serum. పుంటిచీము. రసిక rasika. [Skt.] n. A woman of taste. రసికురాలు. రసికత or రసికత్వము rasikata. [Skt.] n. Good taste or judgement. రసజ్ఞత. రసికుడు rasikuḍu. A man of taste. శృంగారాదిరసములను గ్రహించువాడు, రసజ్ఞుడు. రసితము rasi-tamu. n. Sound noise, thunder. ధ్వని, ఉరుము.

(p. 1289) saṭa saṭa. [Tel.] n. An untruth, lie; a trick; cunning, intricacy. అబద్ధము, మాయ, మోసము, కపటము, చిక్కు. సటవటమాటలు boasting lies or idle talk, ౛ల్లిమాటలు. 'ద్రోహబుద్ధినైన దొంగరికమునైన, సటలనైన సాహసములనైన.' Vema. iii. 33. 'సటలివిమానరోరిహరి.' Parij. iii. 33. సట saṭa. [Skt.] n. Clotted hair. ౛డ, కేసరసమూహము. A mane, ౛ూలు.

(p. 1305) sayyāṭa or సయ్యాటము say-y-āṭa. [సయి (from Skt. సహ)+Tel. ఆట.] n. A joke. సరసము, పరిహాసము. Sport, లీలల. 'తడవాయెన్ వచ్చివిచ్చేయు నీసయ్యాటంబికచాలు.' P. iv. 724. సయ్యాటించు say-y-āṭinṭsu. v. a. To joke. పరిహసించు. సయ్యొద్ద say-y-odda. n. Friendship, అనుకూలత, చేరిక, స్నేహము. సయ్యొద్దగా say-y-odda-gā. adv. Amicably, in a friendly manner. విహితముగా, స్నేహముగా. వారు మిక్కిలి సయ్యొద్దగానున్నారు they are on very good terms.

(p. 1307) sarasamu sa-rasamu. [Skt.] adj. Juicy, tasty. Sapid, soft. Good, virtuous. Charming, agreeable, pleasant, elegant, sweet. Jocose, funny, merry. Easy, cheap. రసయుక్తమైన, సుస్వాదువైన, అందమైన, మనోహరమైన, పరిహాసమైన, లలితమైన; చవుకైన. సరసోక్తి a jocose; amusing or agreeable expression. n. A joke, jest, fun, merriment, amusement, sweetness, pleasantry. Cheapness. పరిహాసము, ఉల్లాసము, వినోదము, సారస్యము; చవుక. సరసమాడు to make jokes, to jest. సరిసమాడవద్దు do not jest. సరసము విరసమవును a jest may turn to a strife. సరససల్లాపము jocose talk. ఇప్పుడు బంగారు సరసముగానున్నది now gold is cheap. చెయ్యి సరసము bear's play, a scuffle. 'సరసోరుకాండముల్ సౌకర్యమేపార.' Ila. i. 2. సరసత sa-rasasa. n. Delicacy, taste, sweetness, elegance, brilliancy of thought, beauty of composition. మాధుర్యము, సారస్యము, లాలిత్యము. ఆ సద్యముయొక్క సరసత the sweetness of the verse. 'మేఘరాజులు సరసతమీర దమ్ము సరళవిద్యుల్లతాదీర్ఘతరకటాక్ష.' R. vi. 9. సరసత, అనగా సజలత్వము, లాలిత్యము. సరసముగా sa-rasamu-gā. adv. Jocosely, in joke, humorously. Sweetly, merrily. Cheaply. పరిహాసముగా, సారస్యముగా, ఉల్లాసముగా, చవుకగా. వెల సరసముగానుండినందున as the price was low. సరసయతి sa-rasayati. n. A rhyme not quite precise, but elegant. 'అయహలు చఛజఝశషసలు, నయసన్నుతవళ్లురేచనాపురుషగాన, ప్రియయివియొండొంటికిని, శ్చయముగవళులయ్యె.' Bhima. 71. సరసుడు sa-rasuḍu. n. A gentleman, a man of good taste, an amiable or well behaved man; one easy of access, రసికుడు. సరసురాలు sa-rasu-r-āalu. n. A lady, a woman of elegant manners. రసికురాలు.

(p. 1309) sari sari. [from Skt. సదృశః.] n. The end. అంతము. Similarity, likeness. సామ్యము, సమానము, సమము. Propriety, fitness, యుక్తము. [From Skt. సరః.] n. A garland, wreath. హారము. See also సరియ. ఆ వంశము ఇతనతో సరి that family terminates with him. సరిలేని మాణిక్యము a matchless gem. పెలసరికి at the end of the month. నెలసరికి up to that day. నీకు నాకు సరి there is an end of everything between us. సరికాని వారు those who are not equals. 'సరికాని వారితో సరసమాడెడువాని.' (Kālahas. §. 66.) he who takes liberties with such as are not his equals. సరికానిపని improper behaviour or conduct. సరికిసరి tit for tat. గోధుములు బియ్యానికి గోధుములు బియ్యానికి సరికిసరి ఇస్తారు they barter wheat for an equal quantity of rice.సరికిసరి చేసినాడు he repaid them according to what they had done. సరి. adj. Equal, like. సమము, ఈడైన. Just, right, proper, fit, correct, suitable, యుక్తమైన, తగిన, Corresponding to. Even, level, not odd, మిట్టపల్లములులేని. Ended, finished, సమాప్తము. అతనికి సరిలేడు he has no equal. రాత్రి అయినా సరే పగలు అయినా సరే be it day or be it night. ఇది సరికాదు this is not right. ఈ ఉత్సవము నేటితో సరి this feast is finished with this day. adv. Equally. సమానముగా, సరిగా. Fully, పూర్ణముగా. 'జలధి తోజలధియు సరిబోరుకరణి.' DRY. 2224. 'సరిబల్కుమని యదల్చు.' T. iii. 143. సరి (interj.) Well! Yes! very well! very good! Aha! Aha! Oh! బాగాయె; అంగీకారార్థము. సరికట్టు sari-kaṭṭu. v. n. To be equal or similar. దృష్టాంమగు. v. a. To attempt, యత్నించు. See సరిపడు below. సరికడచు sari-kaḍaṭsu. v. n. To exceed, excel. ముందుమించు, మీరు, అతిక్రమించు. సరిగా sari-gā. adv. Equally, abreast, properly, rightly, correctly, in good order, completely, fully. సమముగా, ౛తగా, ౛ోడుగా, యుక్తముగా, న్యాయముగా, క్రమముగా, సంపూర్ణముగా, ఆ రెండు పల్లకీలు సరిగా వచ్చుచుండెను the two palanquins were coming on abreast. సరిగెఅల్పులు sari-gelpulu. n. Quits (at dice or games), సమానమైన జయములు. సరిగొను sari-gonu. v. a. To resemble. సమానమగు. To kill, destroy. చంపు, రూపుమాపు. M. VII. iv. 277. సీ సరియన్న విరిపొన్న సరిగొన్నగరిమచేగంభీ రమగునాభిగాంచుదాని.' T. iv. 62. సరిచేయు ari-chēyu. v. a. To arrange or put in order, to put straight, to level or make even. To complete, end or finish. To equalize, క్రమపరచు, వంకర లేకుండా చేయు, మిట్టపల్లములు లేకుండా చేయు, ముగించు, సమానము చేయు. To ruin, నాశముచేయు, సరిచూచు sari-ṭsūṭsu. v. a. To compare, review, collate. సంప్రతించు, సరిగానుండజూచు. సరితూగు sari-tūgu. v. a. To counterbalance, to be equal in weight, to be equal. సమానమగు. సరిపడు, సరితాకు or సరికట్టు sari-paḍu. v. n. To be equal, fit, suit, agree. To be on good terms. To be complete, to be finished, expended, exhausted. సమానమగు, జతపడు, అనుకూలమగు, పొసగు, యుక్తమగు, అయిపోవు. ఆ బియ్యము సరిపడిపోయినవి the rice is all done. మీకు సరిపడితే ఉంచుకొండి keep it if you like it. మేమంటే సరిపడక not being on good terms with us. సరిపడని discontented. సరిపుచ్చు or సరిపెట్టు sari-putstsu. v. a. To equalize, సమముచేయు. To finish, end, complete, consume. ముగించు, కాజేయు, కార్యాంతముచేయు. సరిపోవు sari-pōvu. v. n. To be equal, become equal, సమానమగు. To fit, suit, agree. A. vi. 90. నోటికి సరిపోయినట్టు మాట్లాడినాడు he said everything that came to his tongue. అవి నీకు సరిపోతవవి these will suit you. నీవు తిట్టినదానికిని నేను కొట్టినదానికని సరిపోయినవి the blows I have given are a fair payment for your abuse. ఆ బియ్యము ఆ తపేలాకు సరిపోయినవి the rice was just enough to fill the vessel. సరిపొద్దు or సరిప్రొద్దు sari-poddu. n. Midnight, అర్థరాత్రి. P. iii. 45. సరిబిత్తరము sari-bittaramu. n. A kind of wrestling. మల్ల బంధవిశేషము. సరిబేసులు sari-bēsulu. n. A kind of game played by boys, పిల్లకాయలు ఆడే ఒక ఆట. 'గుళ్లుదాగుడుముచ్చిళ్లు గోలిపెట్టెలేలపాటలు, సరిబేసు లీలకూతలాదిగాశైశవక్రీడలాడి.' Vish. vii. 212. సరియగు sari-y-agu. v. n. To become equal, సమానమగు, to be destroyed, నశించు. సరియైన sari-y-aina. adj. Equal, like; just, right, proper, fit. Corresponding to. Level, straight; even, not odd. సమమైన, యుక్తమైన, తగిన, నూటియైన, ఈడైన, అవిషయమైన, మిట్టపల్లములు లేని. సరిలేని sari-lēni. adj. Matchless, unequalled. అసమానమైన. సరివచ్చు sari-vatstsu. v. n. To match, be alike, సమానమగు. సరిసమానము sari-samānamu. (a pleonasm.) n.
