(p. 736) pātakamu pātakamu. [Skt.] n. A sin, a crime. పంచమహాపాతకములు the five great sins, viz, killing a Brahmin (బ్రహ్మ హత్య), stealing gold (స్వర్ణస్తేయము,) drinking intoxicating liquor (సురాపానము) dishonoring a teacher's wife (గురుపత్నీగమనము) and association with such as are guilty of any of these sins (ఇవి చేయువారి తోడి సహవాసము) పాతకి or పాతకుడు pātaki. n. A sinner.

(p. 801) pondu or ఒందు pondu. [Tel.] v. n. To wink, (కన్ను) వాలు. To gain, obtain, get, acquire. To reach, attain to. To have, enjoy. To suffer, experience, meet with joy, grief or death, &c. ప్రాపించు. వానిని లక్ష్మిపొందినది good luck has be fallen him. అవమానమును పొందినాడు he incurred disgrace. సంతోషమును పొందినాడు he was pleased. నష్టమును పొందినాడు he incurred loss. విఘ్నమొందక meeting with no obstacle or cheek. నరకమును పొందినాడు he fell into hell. కన్నుపొందు to sleep. 'ఆ కడుపు నిండగుడువ గానమిరేయెల్ల, గన్నుపొందకున్న కరముడస్సి, యున్నవాడనాకు.' M. I. vi. 322. కన్నుపొందకున్న, అనగా నిద్రలేకుండా ఉండడముచేత. Also, to have intercourse with. కలయు. n. Agreeableness, అనుకూల్యము. adj. Friendly, స్నేహితుడు. 'రాలపొందెరింగి రాలగూర్చినభంగిలోను పొందెరింగిలోనుపరచి.' Vēma. 637. పొందుకాడు ponḍu-kāḍu. n. A friend, స్నేహితుడు. పొందుకొను pondu-konu. v. n. To be fixed or established, నెలకొను. పొందుపడు pondu-paḍu. v. n. To be agreeable or fit, సరిపడు, అనుకూలించు. పొందుపాటు ponda-pāṭu. n. Convenience, suitability, aid, help. వానికి ఆ రూకలు పొందుపాటు కాలేదు he could not get the money. పొందుపాటుచేయు to arrange, అనుకూలముచేయు. పొందించు pondinṭsu. To cause to obtain, get, or experience. నన్ను ఈ శ్రమ పొందించినారు they caused me this trouble. 'మగువత నంబునజగముల తగులము బొందింప గొంతదడవెముకుందా.' B. viii. 446. పొందిక pondika. n., Fitness, agreement, aptness. ఇమిడిక. Intercourse, సహవాసము, కలయిక. 'సీతాకాంతముని స్త్రీల పొందిక లుమరగి.' R. v. 59.

(p. 807) pottu pottu. [Tel.] n. Friendship, partnership, holding in common. స్నేహము, సహవాసము, విశ్వాసము, ఉమ్మడి, అవిభక్తిత. పోరునష్టి, పొత్తులాభము (proverb) quarrelling is a loss, friendship is a gain. పొత్తునగుడుచు to eat together as messmates, బిగిసిగాతిను. వీధులు అందరికిపొత్తు the streets are free or common to all men. ఆ సరుకులు పొత్తున కొన్నారు they bought the goods between them, or as common stock. ఆ పని పొత్తులుపోక పడవేసిపెట్టినారు the work is left undone because they could not settle which of them should do it, ఆ పని నీదంటే నీదని పడవేసిపెట్టినారు. 'నృపుపొత్తుబాముపొత్తుంగపటుండగు మిత్రుపొత్తుగడుసరిపొత్తుం, విపరీత భార్య పొత్తుం నెపమిది నిడువంగవలయు.' Sumati. 129. 'ఇట్టి అవమానపుపొత్తు మనంగ వచ్చునే.' M. IV. iii. 33. పొత్తులవాడు he in whom both parties have an equal right or interest. ఇద్దరికి సమమైనవాడు. 'ఏనుపొత్తులవాడనై యిరువురకును.' ib. XII. v. 257. adj. Friendly, united, associated. స్నేహితము, సంగతము. పొత్తుకాడు pottu-kāḍu. n. A friend, స్నేహితుడు. పొత్తుకత్తె pottu-katte. n. A female friend. స్నేహితురాలు. పొత్తుగుడుచు pottu-guḍuṭsu. v. n. To avail or come to good. పనికివచ్చు.' సత్యములు పొత్తుగుడుచునా సున్నుతాంగి భళిర సత్యములానలైనచ్చునీకు.' Ila. iv. 21. టీ సత్యములు పొత్తుగుడుచునా, బాసలు కలిసివచ్చునా. పొత్తుగుడుపు pottu-guḍupu. n. Eating together as messmates. పంజ్క్తిభోజనము. పొత్తుచేయు pottu-chēyu. v. n. To make friends with, to cultivate friendship, to associate with, స్నేహము చేయు. పొత్తువు pottuvu. n. An epithet of Sarasvati, సరస్వతి.

(p. 989) mīḍu mīdu. [Tel.] n. The upper surface; top, head. ఉపరిభాగము, ఊర్ధ్వము. Futurity. భవిష్యత్కాలము. What is vowed, or set aside for sacrifice, దేవతకు నియమించిన ముడుపు. That which is next, the next thing, పరము. మీదుకట్టు mīdu-kaṭṭu. v. a. To devote, sanctify, set aside in the name of God. మీద or మీదను mīda. postposition. (Irreg. infl. of మిదు. See మీది.) adj. Subsequent. ఆమీదటిపనులు the subsequent acts. మీదటికి mīdaṭiki. adv. In future, next year. మీదటికి వానలేకుంటే if there should be no rain next year. మీది mīdi. (infl. of మీదు) adj. Upper, higher, the next, above, on. మిదికొమ్మ the top branch. నా మిది ప్రేమ (her or his) love towards me మీది మాట the next word. మీదిపనులు what is to be done afterwards. మీదిమన్ను the upper layer of earth. మీదిగుడ్లు staring eyes: (as in the song దొప్పచెవులు, దోసెకడుపు, మిట్టనొసలు, మీదిగుడ్లు.) దాని మీది సొమ్ములు the jewels which were on her. పాలమిదిమీగడ the cream upon milk. మీదికి mīdiki. (Dative of మీదు) Upon, against. ఆదండు ఏఊరిమీదికి పోయినది against which village is the army gone? ఆ తప్పు మామీదికి వచ్చినది that fault was laid upon us. మీదుమిక్కిలి mīdu-mikkili. adj. Very much, కడు మిక్కిలి.

(p. 1192) viśēṣamu vi-ṣēshamu. [Skt.] n. Sort, kind, species, variety, భేదము, విధము. A particularity, speciality, peculiarity, singularity. A specific quality, a distinguishing property, a characteristic. A particular thing, an individual, an object distinguished by some attribute or adjunct. Merit, excellence; something noteworthy or distinguished, a remarkable occurrence, news. చూడదగిన యుత్తమవస్తువు. అతిశయము, వింత, వింతరూపము. A charitable or virtuous action. సత్కార్యము, పుణ్యము. ఈ వైద్యునికి హస్తవిశేషముకద్దు this doctor has a fortunate hand. ఓషధివిశేషము a sort of herb. అక్షక్రీడావిశేషము a kind of diceplay. నేడేమివిశేషము what is there particular to-day? What is the matter to-day? ఆయన విశేషజ్ఞుడు he is a great scholar. adj. Extraordinary, eminent, remarkable, unusual. Much, more, abundant, greater, exceeding, surpassing. అతిశయమైన, వింతైన, అత్యంతమైన. విశేషమైన కార్యము a good deed. ఈ శ్లోకమునకు ఒక విశేషార్థమున్నది this verse has a secondary or recondite meaning. విశేషణము vi-ṣēshanamu. n. (In grammar). An adjective. విశేష్యలక్షణములనుచెప్పేది, గుణవాచకశబ్దము. విశేషించు vi-ṣēshinṭsu. v. n. To excel. అతిశయించు. విశేషించి or విశేషముగా vi-ṣēshinchi. adv. Abundantly, plentifully, much, exceedingly. తరచుగా, విస్తారముగా, మిక్కిలి, మిగుల. అతనితో విశేషించి సహవాసము చేయవద్దు you should not associate much with him. 'ఈ యత్రికుమారునింబోషించెదవిశేషించినేట నుండియు బ్రాణపదంబుగాగారవించెద.' T. ii. 178. విశేష్యము vi-ṣēshyamu. n. (In grammar), a noun or substantive. నామవాచకపదము, వస్తువాచకశబ్దము.

(p. 1272) saṅgatamu san-gatamu. [Skt.] adj. Joined, united, come together, coherent, consistent, proper, just, adequate, reasonable, suitable, appropriate, applicable. యుక్తమైన, యోగ్యమైన, సంలగ్నమైన, సంయుక్తమైన. 'కమనీయ వజ్రసంగతక వాటములు.' HD. i. 13. n. Friendship, స్నేహము. Meeting, చేరిక. సంగతి san-gati. n. A circumstance, matter, case, subject, affair, business, event, occurrence: the contents of a writing. Fitness, decorum, propriety. కార్యము, వ్యవహారము. పని, విషయము, సహవాసము, సాంగత్యము, యుక్తము, యోగ్యము, సంపర్కము. అతడు చెప్పిన సంగతి ఏమంటే he stated as follows. ఈ సంగతి నాకు తెలిసి on knowing this. ఆ సంగతి నేను వినలేదు I did not hear of it. అతడు బ్రతికియుండే సంగతి చనిపోయిన సంగతి తెలియలేదు I do not know whether he is alive or dead. సంగతిని or సంగతిగా san-gati-ni. adv. Properly, fitly. యుక్తముగా, తగినట్టుగా. 'పట్టు వస్త్రములు భూషణముల్ గల చందనంబులున్, సంగతిగట్టియుందొడిగి సయ్యనజూచె.' ప్రసన్న రాఘవశతకము. సంగతించు san-gatinṭsu. v. n. To happen, occur. సంభవించు. ప్రసక్తించు. సంగతుడు san-gatuḍu. n. (In composition,) one who is accompanied by, or beset by. కూడుకొన్నవాడు. 'అపరాహ్ణసంగతుండగుత పనుంగని ప్రొద్దుగ్రుంక దడవేగుదురీరిపులన.' M. VI. ii. 341.

(p. 1280) samprayōgamu sam-pra-yōgamu. [Skt.] n. A good use, చక్కనిప్రయోగము. Association, relation, connection. సంబంధము. Enchantment, an incantation, మూలికతోచేయు ఉచ్చాటవాదిక్రియ, వశీకరణాది కర్మము. A sister. తోడబుట్టువు. సహజము saha-jamu. adj. Lit. Born with. Innate, inherent, natural, proper, true. స్వభావము, కూడబుట్టిన. సహజరేఫ the 'common' ర as distinguished from the obsolete ఱ. n.
