(p. 121) ārabamu ārabamu. [Tel.] n. Vegetation, crops, fruit of the earth in general. పైరు. 'ఆకీడునన్. వానల్కల్గకమానె నారబములెండంజొచ్చె.' V. P. ii. 113. Cultivation. tillage సాగుబడి; కాడారబము dry cultivation; నిరారబము wet cultivation.

(p. 218) ōra ōra. [Tel.] n. The side, border, edge. అంచు. A whole day and night అహోరాత్రము. ఒక ఓరను ఉంటిమి we stood on one side. ఓరగా sidelong, sideways. తలుపోరగా చేసెor ఓరవాకిలి చేసినది she opened the door a little, or, set it a jar. ఓరబోయి becoming crooked వంకరపోయి. BD. vi. ఓరచూపు ōra-ṭsūpu. n. A sidelong glance. బెళుకుటోర యొయారపు చూపు leeringly. ఓరంతపొద్దు ōranta-poddu. (ఓర+అంత+ప్రొద్దు) the livelong day, all day long, దినమంతయు, ఆసాయము. Also, a little రవంత, ఇసుమంత. 'ఉప్పులేకుండన నోరంతప్రొద్దు చప్పిడితాగిన సాగునే కాళ్లు? రాలేకొదుగబడి రాకయున్నాడు.' Pal. 316.

(p. 811) porambōku or పోరంబోకు porambōku. [H.] n. Waste land unfit for cultivation. సాగుబడికిరాని భూమి.

(p. 878) bāra bāra. [Tel.] n. A fathom, the length of the two arms extended. చాచిన రెమడు చేతులనడిమికొలత, నాలుగుమూరలు. పదిబారలు twenty yards. బార or బారా bāra. [H.] Twelve పండ్రెండు. బారచాచు bāra-tsātsu. v. a. To extend. (the arms, so as to embrace.) 'గౌరవమున బారచాచి కౌగిటచేర్చెన్.' T. iv. 146. బారచాపు bāra-ṭsāpu. n. The cloth called Long cloth. చాలా నిడివిగలబట్ట. బారదూలము, బారుపట్టె or బారుదూలము a very long piece of timber, నిడుపాటిదూలము. బారపోయు bāra-pōyu. v. a. To spin, with the arm fully stretched. చెయ్యిసాగునంతవరకు నూలువడుకు. ఏకులబారపోయు to spin thread. బారాది bār-ādi. (బార+అది) adj. A great deal. అధికము. A great many. అనేకము, బహుళము, చాలా. 'ఓరోరిరాచవాడా, రారా నావెంట దిరుగరాదాసుడనై, బారాదిమాడలిచ్చెద కోరానీయప్పుదీర్చుకోరాయనుచున్.' HN. iv. 233. 'వారిరువురుతమలోపల వైరముగొనిరాజ్యకాంక్షవిజిగీషువులై, హోరాహోరింబోరిరి, బారాదిదినంబులననిప్రజలుతలంకన్.' A. iii. 21.

(p. 943) maḍaka maḍaka. [Tel.] n. A plough with bulocks complete. నాగటికి ఎడ్లను పూన్చిన యరక, అరక, ఏరు. A folding, a fold, మడువు. A promontory of land, ఏటిమలకసందు. వానికి నాలుగు మడకలు సాగుచున్నవి he has four ploughs in use. రెండుమడకలనేల as much land as requires two ploughs. మడకలు కట్టినతర్వాత after he yoked the cattle to his ploughs. మడకలువిప్పినారు they loosed the cattle from the plough.

(p. 970) māṭa māṭa. [Tel.] n. A word, పదము. A promise, వాగ్దత్తము, ప్రతిజ్ఞావచనము. Slander, నింద. Opinion, rumour, వృత్తాంతము. అతడు నీ మాట చెప్పలేదు he did not speak of you. ఇది వేరే మాట this is another affair, another thing. వానిమాటకాదు this is not about him, I am not talking about him. గడియకు ఒకమాట చెప్పినాడు he changed his mind every hour. మంచిమాట (interj.) Very well. దాన్ని గురించి రెండో మాటలేదు there is no alternative. వారివిద్ద మాటలుపడినాడు he was reproached or reprimanded by them. In some phrases the word మాట need not be translated. Thus, ఆమె తిరిగీ వస్తున్నదనేమాట తెలిసి knowing that she would return. నేను దానిని కొన్నమాట రూఢి it is very true I bought it. ఆమాటే యెరుగను I know nothing of it. ఇందుచేత మాటవచ్చును by this you will get into disgrace. అతడు మాటతప్పలేదు he did not fail in his promise. మాట తప్పినవాడు మాలవాడు a promise breaker is a pariah, i.e., is a mean wretch. నేను పోయినమాట వానికి ఎట్లా తెలిసినది how did he know that I was gone? అతడు పోయేమాట ఉండేమాటా does he propose to go or stay? వాడు ఉండేమాట యింకా తెలియలేదు I do not as yet know that he will remain. మాటకుమాట word for word, literally. నా మాట అడుగుదాటకు transgress not my command. తనమీద మాటరాకుండా ఇట్లా చేసెను he did this to avoid blame. మాటవినుట to obey. ఎంతమాట what nonsense! వానిమాట వాని ఒడిలో వేసినాను I acted as he desired. నీకు మాట నాకు మూట a command is easy to give but hard to perform, or a word from you will make me rich. వెయ్యిమాటలేల why discuss it at length, in a word. ఆ పెండ్లి మాట యీ గ్రంథములో లేదు there is no mention of the marriage in this book నామాటవేరు, నీమాట వేరు I say one thing you say another, my opinion is different from yours, my case is quite different from yours. వానికి నాకు మాటలు లేవు he and I are not on speaking terms. వానితో నీకేమిమాటలు why do you speak with him? ఈమాట వింటే ఆయన యేమనును if he hears of this what will he say? కడపటిమాటయేమి what was the upshot of the business? ఇప్పట్లో వాని మాట సాగదు he has now no influence. కడకు వానిమాటే ముందరికివచ్చినది at last his words proved true. దానిని గురించి ఇంకా యేమాటా తెలియలేదు I do not yet know the result. మాటలకు పట్టుకొంటే విడవడు if he begins talking he will never stop. అదెక్కడిమాట what nonsense! such a thing is impossible. మాటలు మంచివే కాణి మనసు మంచిదికాదు he talks well but has a bad heart. ఇంకా మాటలు రాని బిడ్డ a child that cannot yet speak. వానికి ఆ ఊరిలో మాట వాసికద్దు లేక మాట సాగుతుంది he has influence in the town. ఆయన మాటకు ఎదురులేదు his word is law. మాటలకుమాత్రము పేదరికములేదు as far as words go he is rich enough. ఒక మాట యిచ్చి పదిమాటలు తీసుకొన్నాడు his reproaches were returned ten-fold. మాటకాడు māṭa-kāḍu. n. A good public speaker, సభయందు భయములేక మాటాడువాడు, వక్త. మాటకారి māṭa-kāri. n. A skilful speaker, యుక్తిగా మాటాడువాడు. A talkative person, వాచాలుడు. మాటలమారి māṭala-māri. n. A talkative person, మిక్కిలి మాటాడువాడు. మాటలాడు, మాటాడు or మాట్లాడు māṭa-l-āḍu. v. n. To speak, talk, converse, to reproach. నన్నెందుకు ఊరికె మాటలాడుతావు why reproach me for nothing? S. iii. 41.

(p. 1155) vārakamu vārakamu. [Tel.] n. A stipend: pay given in advance: money advanced to cultivators to be received again without interest when the crop is reaped. సాగుబడి కాలములో ఇచ్చి ఫలకాలములో వడ్డి లేకుండ మళ్లీ రాబట్టుకొనురూకలు, తకావి. 'వలసి నజీతంబువారకంబులను కొలదిమీరిగనిచ్చి కూడు కనుండు.' L. iv. 113.

(p. 1316) saha saha. [Skt.] n. The earth. భూమి. సహ or సహా. adv. With, together with, even, also, too. కూడ, సహితము. ప్రస్తుతము సహ even now, and at this very time, and now too. సహకారము saha-kāramu. n. A grafted mango. తియ్యమామిడి చెట్టు. సహకారి or సహకారుడు saha-kāri. n. An assistant, one who helps, సహాయుడు. సహకృతుడు saha-kṛituḍu. n. One who is assisted. ఉపకృతుడు. సహగమనము saha-gamanamu. (Sometimes corrupted into సాగుమానము.) n. Lit: going with. A widow accompanying her deceased husband, i.e., the immolation of herself on his pyre. Suttee. మగనిశవముతో కూడా రగలబడి చావడము. సహచరత్వము saha-charatvamu. n. The being a companion. మిత్రత్వము. 'విహీనసహచరత్వంబు విగతా యుధత్వంబువాహనాభావంబునొందితి.' M. ix. ii. 97. సహచరి saha-chari. n. A female companion or attendant. స్నేహితురాలు, చెలియ. A wife. భార్య. సహచరుడు saha-charuḍu. n. An attendant, companion, follower, compeer, mate. కూడ తిరుగువాడు, స్నేహితుడు. సహజ saha-ja. n. A sister. తోడబుట్టువు. సహజము saha-jamu. adj. Lit. Born with. Innate, inherent, natural, proper, true. స్వభావము, కూడబుట్టిన. సహజరేఫ the 'common' ర as distinguished from the obsolete ఱ. n. Nature, స్వభావము. Truth, propriety, justice, నిజము, న్యాయము. 'సభనుగూరుచుండి సహజంబుపలుకక పక్షపాతమాడుపాతకునకు.' Vema. 1990. సహజన్ముడు or సహజుడు saha-janmuḍu. n. A brother. తోడుబుట్టినవాడు. సహదేవిచెట్టు saha-dēvi-cheṭṭu. n. Tamarisc; a thorny plant growing in deserts, and fed upon by camels, Capparis aphylla. కరీరము, వెణుతురుచెట్టు, దేవగంధ. H. iv. 12. సమాధర్మిణి saha-dharmiṇi. n. A lawful wife. ధర్మపత్ని, అగ్నిసాక్షికముగా పెండ్లాడిన పెండ్లాము. సహపఙ్క్తిభోజనము, సహభోజనము or సహవఙ్క్తి sahapangti-bhōjanamu. n. Eating together, dining at one table. కూడా భోజనముచేయడము. వారికిని మాకును సహపఙ్క్తిలేదు they and we do not eat together. సహపాఠి sahapāṭhi. n. A fellow-student. కూడా చదివెడివాడు. సహవాసము saha-vāsamu. n. Association, intercourse, friendship. స్నేహము, కూడియుండుట. సహవాస యోగ్యుడుకాడు he is not fit to associate with. సహా sahā. adv. (p. 1320) sāgu or చాగు sāgu. [Tel.] v. n. To go on, proceed, get on, advance, continue, be current, be usual. To lengthen, to extend, as hot iron under the hammer. To take effect. To begin, నడుచు, జరుగు, దీర్ఘమగు, నిడుపగు, ఆరంభించు. n. A spit or iron lance, a short arrow thrown from the hand, అడుగున త్రాడుకట్టినకటారి, అలుగు వంటి ఆయుధవిశేషము. Cultivation, tillage. కృషి, వ్యవసాయము. దండుసాగుచుండగా when the army was marching. పని సాగలేదు the business does not go on or proceed. అతని మాట సాగలేదు his word did not take effect. కమ్మిపాగలేదు the wire could not be drawn out or lengthened. ఆ ఉత్సవము సాగుచున్నదా is the feast still kept up? దానికోరిక కొనసాగినది her wish is fulfilled. చెప్పసాగినది she went on to say. ఇది లేకుండా నాకు సాగదు I cannot get on without this. అక్కడ సాగకవస్తిని as I could not subsist there I came away. సాగుపాటు sāgu-pāṭu. n. Means of getting on, livelihood. జరుగుపాటు. సాగుబడి sāgu-baḍi. n. Cultivation. వ్యవసాయము. plu. సాగుబళ్లు. సాగగొట్టు sāga-goṭṭu. v. a. To hammer, out, extend or draw out (by heating a rod of iron, gold, etc.) పొడుగగునట్లుగా కొట్టు, సాగదీయు sāga-dīyu. v. a. To extend, stretch out, draw out, lengthen, పొడుగగునట్టుగా లాగు. To importune, మిక్కిలి ప్రార్థించు, బతిమాలుకొను. వాణ్ని ఎంత సాగదీసినా పోనన్నాడు however much I urged him he said he would not go. సాగనంపు sāga-n-ampu. v. a. To send away, to send one on, to set a traveller on his way, to convey or accompany one for a little distance. జపించు. సాగబడు or సాగిలబడు sāga-baḍu. v. n. To fall down at full length, flat or prostrate. సాష్టాంగపడు. 'సాగబడి మ్రొక్కిన శౌరికృ పార్ద్రచిత్తుడై.' Parij. v. 48. సాగించు sāginṭsu. v. a. To conduct, carry on (a business.) To celebrate (a feast.) జరుపు. కీళ్లుసాగించినారు they performed the swinging feast.
