(p. 707) padma padma. [Skt.] n. A name of Lakshmi. లక్ష్మి. పద్మము padmamu. n. The lotus or water lily. Nelumbium speciousum. తామర. A large number, ten billions. In Tantrica books it means a part or region of the body. పద్మనాభుడు padma-nānābhuḍu. n. Vishṇu, from whose navel (నాభి) sprung the lotus containing Brahma when he was sent to create the world. పద్మబాంధవుడు padma-bāndhavuḍu. n. The Sun. పద్మరాగము pādma-rāgamu. n. The chrysolite or ruby of the finest class: a gem of a pink colour called మొక్కళి, ఉదయసూర్యకాంతిగలకెంపు. పద్మవెలమలు or పద్మనాయకులు padma-velamalu. n. Plu. The name of a certain Sudra caste. See వెలమ. పద్మవ్యూహము or పద్మము padma-vyūhamu. n. A certain kind of military evolution. పద్మసాలెవాండ్లు padma-sāle-vāndlu. n. A certain caste of weavers. పద్మాకరము padm-ākaramu. n. A place of lilies a pond in which the lotus grows. A tank, కొలను, చెరువు. పద్మాలయ or పద్మావతి padm-ālaga. n. The goddess Lakshmi, so named because her dwelling (ఆలయము) is in the lily (పద్మము.) పద్మాసనము padm-āsanamu. n. A sitting posture used in religious meditation in which the Bauddha statues are represented; so called because Vishṇu is represented in that posture when throned on a lotus. పద్మి padmi. n. An elephant. పద్మిని padmini. n. A lovely woman, like a Penclope, or an Eve. The Hindu poets divide all beautiful women into four classes called (1) హస్తిని, (2) శంఖిని, (3) చిత్రిణి and (4) పద్మిని; which answer to Juno, Flora, Venus and Minerva, respectively: See Addison's Spectator No. 209. పద్మిని n. A bed of lilies. పద్మినీవల్లభుడు the Sun, as being the lover (వల్లభ) of the lotus.

(p. 851) proddu or పొద్దు proddu. [Tel.] n. The sun, సూర్యుడు. Time, కాలము. A day, దినము. Half a day, పూట. The dawn, వేకువ౛ాము. The morning, ఉషఃకాలము. ప్రొద్దువాలిన తర్వాత after the sun began to decline, in the afternoon. పెద్దయుంబ్రొద్దు a long time. ప్రొద్దిటిపూట the morning time. ప్రొద్దుటెండ the morning sunlight. ప్రొద్దులు proddulu. n. plu. The days hear the time of the confinement of a woman, ప్రసవదినములు. ప్రొద్దులనెల the month during which a confinement takes place, ప్రసూతిమాసము. ప్రొద్దుకల్లు or ప్రొద్దురాయి proddu-kallu. n. Lit: the sun-stone, i.e., a focussing lens, సూర్యకాంతశిల. ప్రొద్దుగొడుకు, ప్రొద్దుపట్టి or ప్రొద్దుచూలి proddu-goḍuku. n. The son of the sun; an epithet applied to Yama, Sani, karṇa or Sugriva, యముడు, శని, కర్ణుడు, సుగ్రీవుడు. ప్రొద్దుతిరుగుడు proddu-tiruguḍu. n. The sun-flower, సూర్యమవర్తిని. ప్రొద్దుపుచ్చు proddu-puṭsṭsu. v. a. To pass the time, కాలక్షేపముచేయు. ప్రొద్దురిక్క proddu-rikka. n. A constellation called ఉత్తరఫల్లునీనక్షత్రము. ప్రొద్దురిక్క నెల proddu-rikka-nela. n. A name of the Telugu month called ఫాల్గుణమాసము.

(p. 1349) sūryuḍu sūryuḍu. [Skt.] n. The sum. భాస్కరుడు. సూర్యకాంతము sūrya-kāntamu. n. The sun-gem tourmaline, అదిత్యశిల, సూర్యరశ్మితగులుటచేట నిప్పుకలిగెడు ఒక విధమైన రాయి. A well known medicinal herb. సూర్యకాంతిపుష్పము or సూర్యావర్తము sūrya-kānti-pushpamu. n. The sun-flower. Helianthus annuuṣ. పొద్దుతిరుగుడుపువ్వు. సూర్యపటము Same as సూరపటము. (q. v.) సూర్యపాను sūrya-pānu. n. A triangular perpendicular paraso or fan, resembling a fire screen. See సురేపాను. సూర్యపుటము sūrya-puṭamu. n. Exposure to the sun. ఎండబెట్టడము. సూర్యపుటముపెట్టు to inspissate fluid medicines or extracts by exposure to the sun. సూర్యపుత్రుడు sūrya-putruḍu. n. The son of Hellus: an epithet of Ṣani, of Yama and the Varuna. శనిగ్రహము, యముడు, వరుణుడు. సుర్యప్రభ sūrya-prabha. n. The disc or orb of the sun; also a vehicle or seat with a gift aureole, సూర్యబింబము, ఒక దేవత వేంచేయు సూర్యాకారమైన వాహనము. సూర్యవాద్యము sūrya-vādyamu. n. A tambourine or small double tabor. పాగామీద కట్టుకొనివాయించే సూర్యాకారమైన చర్మవాద్యము.
