(p. 16) ampakāḍu ampakāḍu. [Tel. from అమ్ము.] n. One who carries an arrow విల్లుచేతబట్టిన వాడు, ధానుష్కుడు. A marks man, a skilful archer. గురితప్పక అమ్మువేయువాడు, కృతహస్తుడు. 'హదనువచ్చుదాకనపరాధిపైరోష 'మాగిహదనుగన్నడనపవలయు లక్ష్యసిద్ధిదాకలావునశరమాగి కాడవిడుచునంపకాడుపోలె.' Amuk. iv.

(p. 18) aṃhassu anhassu. [Skt. √ anh=to press together. GK. ayxw.] n. Anxiety, trouble. Sin, guilt. పాపము.

(p. 42) attemu attemu. [Tel. from Skt. హస్తము] n. A hawk's jesses. డేగకాలిగోళ్లు చేతికి తగలకుండా కట్టుకొనే చర్మము, హస్తకవచము. 'తనతోరవునల్లని దీర్ఘబాహుపై హాలహంబె పోలెవిడియత్తెమునందల యెత్తిచూచుబల్ సాళువమున్ వడింజనుశశంబుపయిన్ మహోద్ధతిన్.' Swa. iv. 82.

(p. 66) apraśastamu a-praṣastamu. [Skt.] adj. Not excellent, worthless, contemptible, not public, secret, hidden. అప్రసిద్ధమైన, రహస్యమైన, ఎవరునెరుగని.

(p. 66) aprasiddhamu a-prasiddhamu. [Skt.] adj. Not known to the world, not public, secret, hidden. అప్రశస్తమైన, రహస్యమైన, ఎవరునెరుగని, అప్రసిద్ధి n. Infamy, అపకీర్తి. Obscurity.

(p. 67) abdamu abdamu. [Skt.] n. A year. A cloud, సంవత్సరము, మేఘము. అబ్దశతము or శతాబ్దము a century; అబ్దసహస్రము a thousand years.

(p. 68) abhayamu a-bhayamu. [Skt. lit. fearlessness.] n. An assurance of security: warrant of sefety, a promise of shelter, impunity or protection. భయములేదనడము, నీకు భయము లేదు నేను ఉన్నాననడము, భరవసా. ఆయన నాకు అభయమిచ్చియున్నాడు he told me not to be afraid. అభయహస్తము the hand of protection.

(p. 75) amṛtamu a-mritamu. [Skt.] n. Nectar, ambrosia. Water, milk, clarified butter, the residue of a sacrifice. Final emancipation from matter and absorption in the Deity. సుధ, ఉదకము, దుగ్ధము, ఘృతము, యజ్ఞశేష ద్రవ్యము, మోక్షము, (వాడుకగా) మజ్జిగ. పంచామృతములు the five nectars, namely, water, milk, curds, ghee and honey. అమృతమునకు అంటులేదు nothing can defile buttermilk. వానిది అమృతహస్తము. he has a healing hand. వానిది అమృతవాక్కు his tongue is inspired. అమృతముహూర్తము n. An auspicious hour. శుభముహూర్తము. అమృతాంధసుడు n. One whose food is ambrosia, a god. దేవత. అమృతాంశువు n. That which gives forth soft beams of light, i.e., the Moon. చంద్రుడు.

(p. 78) aratni aratni. [Skt.] n. A cubit, distance from the elbow to the extremity of the little finger. విస్తృతకనిష్ఠాంగుళి ముష్టికహస్తము, మోచేతినుంచి చితికెన వ్రేలుదాక. The elbow. మోచెయ్యి.

(p. 79) aramu aramu. [Skt.] adj. Swift: speedy. వడిగల, వేగమైన. అరము n. The spoke or radius of a wheel, the edge of a weapon: a corner or angle. ఆయుధధార. చక్రపు అంచు. కోణము. 'అరపంచకసంయూక్తాస్వస్తికా కారశాలిని.' Anand. T. xii. 27. 'సహస్రారచక్రము.' N. vi. 69. A discus or circular missile weapon.

(p. 103) astibhāramu or అస్థిభారము asti-bhāramu. [Skt. for హస్తిభారము] n. A foundation. అడుగుమట్టు, పునాది.

(p. 104) ahamu ahamu. [Skt.] n. Day. అహస్సు, దినము. పుణ్యాహము holy day. అహర్నిశలు day and night, continually. అహరహము aharahamu. adv. Daily. ప్రతిదినమున్ను, దినదినము అహర్నిశములు or అహోరాత్రములు day and night. అహర్ముఖము ahar-mukhamu. n. Morning. ప్రాతఃకాలము. అహర్పతి, అహస్పతి or అహస్కరుడు aharpati. n. The lord of day, the sun.

(p. 105) āṅgīrasuḍu āngirasuḍu. [Skt.] n. Brihaspati. బృహస్పతి, వేల్పుటో౛్జు.

(p. 128) āśramamu āṣramamu. [Skt.] n. Abode, cell, hermitage, retreat (equivalent to a Living, rectory or see). State, stage, period or time of life from a religious point of view. There are four such stages, viz, 1. బ్రహ్మచర్యము bachelorhood or studentship. 2. గార్హస్థ్యము house-holdership or being head of a family. 3. వానప్రస్థము being an anchorite. 4. సన్యాసము being a recluse. ఆశ్రమధర్మము the duties peculiar to each stage of life. ఆశ్రమస్వీకారము āṣrama-svīkāramu. n. Embracing the ascetic condition: bidding farewell to the world.
