(p. 662) nivītamu nivītamu. [Skt.] n. A veil, a mantle, a wrapper. కప్పుకొనబడినది, కప్పుకొనేబట్ట. The Brahminical thread, so called when worn round the neck as a necklace, at certain religious rites. పేరు వలె వేసుకొన్న ౛ందెము. రుమాలుగుడ్డను మెడను నివీతముగా వేలాడగట్టి అందులో నొప్పిగానుండే చేతిని ఉంచుకొన్నాడు he has slung his arm in a handkerchief.

(p. 729) pavitramu pavitramu. [Skt.] adj. Pure, clean, purified. పరిశుద్ధము. n. The sacred thread of the twice-born castes, ౛ందెము. A ring or knot made of sacrificial grass, worn on the fourth or ring finger at a sacrifice. A gold ring, resembling that knot. A sort of necklace made of silk or thread, worn by Vaishṇavas. పవిత్రోత్సవము a ceremony observed in Vishṇu temples in the month of Avani or August. పవిత్రపు వేలు the ring finger. ఆసనపవిత్రము or భగందరము the disease called fistula.

(p. 739) pāpa pāpa. [Tel. from పాము.] adj. Of the serpent, serpentine. పాపరేడు the king of serpents, నాగరాజు. పాపపాన్పు a serpent bed, i.e., the great serpent on which Vishṇu reclines. R. i. 46. పాపజగము the serpent world, నాగలోకము. పాప౛న్నిగట్టు or పాప౛ందెమువేల్పు pāpa-ḍzannigaṭṭu. n. One who wears a serpent as his sacred thread, an epithet of Gaṇēsa, వినాయకుడు. పాపతూపు or పాపరమ్ము pāpa-tūpu. n. A serpent arrow, నాగాస్త్రము. పాపమీను pāpa-nānu. n. A serpent like fish. ఒక జాతిచేప. పాపమేపరి or పాపమేపుడు pāpa-mēpari. n. One who feeds on serpents, i.e., an eagle, గరుత్మంతుడు; or a peacock, నెమలి, పాపమేతపక్కి pāpa-mēta-pakki. n. The 'snake-eating bird,' i.e., an eagle. పాపరమ్ము pāpa-r-ammu. n. A serpent arrow. పాపరేలు pāpa-rēlu. n. A sort of fish.

(p. 914) brahma brahma. [Skt. బృహ్. (brih) to increase, Probably, the Indianised form of the name of 'Abraham', as బ్రహ్మము is of 'Abram,' the పితామహ of the Jewish race. Compare their stories.] n. The god Brahma, the operative creator of the world. ఇది బ్రహ్మభేద్యముగానున్నది this is invincible even to Brahma. వాడు వట్టి యంబ్రహ్మ he is a mere simpleton. There are said to be nine Brahmas, viz., భృగువు, పులస్త్యుడు, పులహుడు. అంగిరసుడు, అత్రి, క్రతువు, దక్షుడు, వసిష్ఠుడు, మరీచి. బ్రహ్మము brahmamu. n. The deity, పరమాత్మ. The Veda, వేదము. A bachelor or novice: the title borne by a Brahmin during the period of religious instruction, which extends from childhood up to manhood, when he is married. బ్రహ్మచారిణి brahma-chāriṇi. n. A maiden that remains unmarried, a female novice: a woman leading a life of continence. బ్రహ్మచర్యమును అనుష్ఠించు స్త్రీ బ్రహ్మణ్యము Same as బ్రహ్మదారువు, గంగ రావిచెట్టు, (q. v.). adj.
