(p. 1396) akṣantalu akshintalu. [from Skt. అక్షతలు.] n. A kind of thorny grass which sticks to one's clothes.

(p. 59) annaprāśanamu anna-prāṣanamu. [Skt.] n. The ceremony of giving an infant solid food for the first time. చంటిబిడ్డకు మొట్టమొదట అన్నముపెట్టే శుభప్రయోజనము.

(p. 98) aśanamu aṣanamu. [Skt.] n. Food, boiled rice, subsistence. అన్నము, భోజనము. ఆశనానికి లేనివాడై being without bread to eat. మాంసాశనుడు he who eats flesh. ఆశనాతురుడు. n. He who is hungry. క్షుథితుడు, ఆకలిగొన్నవాడు.

(p. 98) aśani aṣani. [Skt.] n. A thunderbolt. వజ్రాయుధము, పిడుగు.

(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

(p. 116) āpōśanamu āpoṣanamu. [Skt.] n. The sipping of water from the palm of the hand as a religious ceremony before or after meals, &c.

(p. 172) uśanuḍu uṣanuḍu. [Skt.] n. The name of the planet Sukra or Venus.

(p. 257) kalahamu kalahamu. [Skt.] n. A fight., contention, dispute. జగడము, యుద్ధము. కలహాంతరిత kalah-āntarita. n. A wife who has been vexed and is appeased పతిని విడనాడు తరువాత పశ్చాత్తాపసమనవ్వితయైన నాయిక. కలహాశనుడు kalah-āṣanuḍu. n. A quarrelsome being, a makebate; an eithet of Nārada. కలహించు kalahinṭsu. v. n. To fight, dispute. జగడమాడు.

(p. 288) kuñjamu kunjamu. [Skt.] n. A thicket, a bower, or arbour. పొదరిల్లు. An elephant's cheek ఏనుగుచెక్కిలి. An elephant's tusk ఏనుగుకొమ్ము. కుంజరము kunjaramu. n. An elephant. The best of anything శ్రేష్ఠము కవికుంజరుడు a great poet. మౌనికుంజరములు the noblest of hermits. కుంజరాశనము kunjar-āṣanamu. n. Elephant's food. The poplar leaved fig tree, ficus religious. రావిచెట్టు.

(p. 300) kuśaṅka ku-ṣanka. [Skt. కు = కుత్సిత.] n. A false objection, an empty cavil. కుత్సితపుశంక.

(p. 338) kṣanta kshanta. [Skt.] n. A patient man. ఓర్పరి.

(p. 570) tribhaṅgi tri-bhangi. adj. 'Three ways' twisted. The name of a certain graceful attitude in which some statues stand: such as the వేణుగోపాల or Piping Apollo; or that given to the ద్వారపాలకులు or door keepers carved on each side of a temple gate. The word frequently occurs in books on sculpture (Silpi) and in some poems, but is no where precisely defined. త్రిభంగిన్, three fold: in three ways. మూడువిధములవునట్టుగాను Swa. iii. 76. త్రిభాగము tri-bhāgamu. adj. Divided into three parts or shares. త్రిభువనము or త్రిలోకము tri-bhuvanamu. n. The three worlds: heaven, earth, and hell, i.e., the universe. త్రిమూర్తి tri-mūrti. n. The Hindu Triad, consisting of Bramha, Vishnu, and Siva. త్రియామ tri-yāma. n. Night. M. VII. v. 317. త్రిరాత్రము tri-rātramu. n. Three nights, మూడురాత్రులు. త్రిలింగము tri-lingamu. adj. 'Three gendered.' -a phrase for Sanskrit nouns of the common gender. 'Three formed.' 'త్రిమూర్తుల త్రిలింగవ్యక్తులన్.' B. vii. 333. Also a fictitous or fanciful name (యౌగికపదము) used for the Telugu language. It is peculiar to Appa Cavi, and a few other modern writers, but is not mentioned in any ancient or classical poet: nor in any Sanskrit Dictionary, in lists of the 'fifty six countries.' See W. Vish. Pur. p. 193. In some modern lists Troilinga is named, but without any authority. త్రివర్గము a collection of three (things) as Duty (ధర్మము,) Wealth (అర్థము,) and Desire (కామము) or the Gunas called సత్వరజస్తమములు, or the states called Increase (వృద్ధి), Decrease (క్షయము), and Stationariness (స్థానము.) త్రివళి tri-vali. n. A threefold corrugation on the stomach considered a beauty in women. 'లితకృశోదరంబు తరశత్రివళీయుత రోమరాజియున్.' M. I. iv. 49. త్రివిక్రముడు tri-vikramuḍu. n. He who subjugated the three worlds in three strides, i.e., Vishnu. త్రివిష్టవము tri-vishtapamu. n. Heaven. స్వర్గము. త్రివేణి tri-vēṇi. n. Lit: The Triple braided, an epithet of the Ganges which according to mythology, springs in three streams from the head of Siva. త్రివేణుక or త్రివేణువు tri-vēṇuka. n. The bands of a carriage pole. నొగకట్లు. T. v. 16. M. VII. i. 302. త్రిశంకువు tri-ṣankuvu. n. Name of the father of the hero Harischandra. త్రిశంకుస్వర్గము the Aerial regions, the place of happiness created for త్రిశంకు who could not be admitted into heaven on account of his low origin. త్రిశూలము tri-ṣālamu. n. The three pronged weapon of Vishnu. త్రిషవణము tri-sharvaṇamu. n. The three ablutions, to be performed at morn, noon and night. M. XII. iv. 102. త్రిషవణస్నాయి he who bathes thrice a day. త్రిసప్త tri-sapta. adj. Thrice seven. BRY. iii. 19. త్తిసంధ్యము tri-sandhyamu. n. The meeting times of forenoon, the noon and the afternoon. పూర్వాహ్న మధ్యాహ్న అపరాహ్న సంధ్యలు.

(p. 583) darśanamu darṣanamu. [Skt.] n. Sight, view. చూపు. An eye కన్ను. A mirror, అద్దము. The mind, understanding, బుద్ధి. తెలివి. A dream, కల. Science, శాస్త్రము, ధర్మము. పురుషదర్శనము అయినప్పుడు whenever they see a man. దర్శనముచేస్తిని I visited (him.) దర్శనము చేయించు to introduce. నీకు ఆయన దర్శనము చేయిస్తాను I will introduce you to him. దర్శనహుండి a bill payable at sight. దర్శకుడు darṣakudu. n. One who shows. చూపెడివాడు; a gatekeeper, ద్వారపాలకుడు; a skilful man. నేర్పరి. దర్శనీయము darṣanīyamu. adj. Worthy to be seen, చూడదగిన. దర్శితము darṣitamu. adj. Shown. చూపబడిన. దర్శించు darṣinṭsu. v. a. To see, view. To visit. చూచు. వానికి నూరురూపాయలు దర్శించినాను I lost one hundred rupees to him, i.e., I am a loser of that sum by him. దర్శము darṣamu n. A name for the new moon. అమావాస్య.

(p. 584) daśanamu daṣanamu. [Skt.] n. A tooth. పల్లు.

(p. 599) dumpa dumpa. [Tel.] n. A root. The wedge like part of a plough, నాగలిగొడగ. దుంపకూర any edible root. దుంపవలెనున్నాడు he is very strong. బంగాళాదుంపలు or సీమదుంపలు potatoes. దుంపనాగు dumpa-ṇāgu. n. A sort of snake. G. viii. 101. దుంపనాశనము dumpa-nāṣanamu. n. Total ruin, eradication. వానిని దుంపనాశనము చేసినాడు he ruined him root and branch. దుంపబచ్చలి a kind of plant, a species of బచ్చలి (q. v.) Basella rubra or lucida. ఉపోదకి. దుంపరాష్ట్రము or పెద్దదుంపరాష్ట్రము the Rhizome the Greater Galangal, or Jāva Galangal, Alpinia galanga. సన్న దుంపరాష్ట్రము the Lesser Galangal, Aplinia Officinarum.
