(p. 1396) aḍāvaḍi , అడావిడి or అడావుడి aḍāvaḍi. [Tel.] n. Neglect, carelessness, want to restraint. అడావుడిసంస్ధానము a neglected estate. అడావుజిమవిషి a person devoid of self-restraint. 'ఇంట్లోపెండ్లిఅయతే ఊళ్లోకుక్కలకు అడావుడి' (proverb.)

(p. 198) ēḍa or ఏదచెట్టు ēda. [Tel.] n. A certain creeper. ఏదాడంటే కోదాడంటాడు (proverb) If I say white he says black.

An ant. కొండచీమ. the forest ant. రెక్కలచీమ a winged ant. పారేచీమను వింటాడు he can hear an ant crawl, i.e., he is all alive. చీమదూరని అడవి a forest impervious even to an ant. చలిచీమ a black ant; పై పారేపక్షి కిందపారే చీమ (proverb) The bird above, the ant below, i.e., I had no chance with him. చీమంత of the size of an ant. చీమపులి chīma-puli. n. The ant lion, an ant-eater.

(p. 505) taddinamu tad-dinamu. [Skt. తత్+దినము.] n. Lit. 'That day,' i.e., a commemoration anniversary, or annual mourning for deceased persons. తద్దినముపెట్టు to keep or celebrate 'that day.' తద్దినముకొని తెచ్చుకొను (proverb) to run one's head against a wall.

Rhodomontade, a hoax. నీలిమ or నీలిమము nīlima. n. Black color. నలుపు. నీలిమంచు nīli-mandu. n. Indigo. నీలిమబ్బు nīli-mabbu. n. A thin or rainless cloud. నీలుడు nīluḍu. n. The name of a monkey. ఒకవానరుడు. నీలోత్పలము or నీలాజ్జము the blue water lily.

(p. 672) nuvvu or నువు nuvvu. [Tel.] n. Sesamum; a crop of sesamum. నువ్వుచేను. నువ్వులు sesamum seeds, తిలలు. నువ్వుపువ్వు nuvvu-puvvu. n. The delicate blossom of sesamum: it is proverbially delicate, and to it the poets compare a beautiful nose. నువ్వెత్తు or ఉవ్వెత్తు nuvv-ettu. n. Something extremely minute, that which is not worth reckoning. (p. 807) pottu pottu. [Tel.] n. Friendship, partnership, holding in common. స్నేహము, సహవాసము, విశ్వాసము, ఉమ్మడి, అవిభక్తిత. పోరునష్టి, పొత్తులాభము (proverb) quarrelling is a loss, friendship is a gain. పొత్తునగుడుచు to eat together as messmates, బిగిసిగాతిను. వీధులు అందరికిపొత్తు the streets are free or common to all men. ఆ సరుకులు పొత్తున కొన్నారు they bought the goods between them, or as common stock. ఆ పని పొత్తులుపోక పడవేసిపెట్టినారు the work is left undone because they could not settle which of them should do it, ఆ పని నీదంటే నీదని పడవేసిపెట్టినారు. 'నృపుపొత్తుబాముపొత్తుంగపటుండగు మిత్రుపొత్తుగడుసరిపొత్తుం, విపరీత భార్య పొత్తుం నెపమిది నిడువంగవలయు.' Sumati. 129. 'ఇట్టి అవమానపుపొత్తు మనంగ వచ్చునే.' M. IV. iii. 33. పొత్తులవాడు he in whom both parties have an equal right or interest. ఇద్దరికి సమమైనవాడు. 'ఏనుపొత్తులవాడనై యిరువురకును.' ib. XII. v. 257. adj. Friendly, united, associated. స్నేహితము, సంగతము. పొత్తుకాడు pottu-kāḍu. n. A friend, స్నేహితుడు. పొత్తుకత్తె pottu-katte. n. A female friend. స్నేహితురాలు. పొత్తుగుడుచు pottu-guḍuṭsu. v. n. To avail or come to good. పనికివచ్చు.' సత్యములు పొత్తుగుడుచునా సున్నుతాంగి భళిర సత్యములానలైనచ్చునీకు.' Ila. iv. 21. టీ సత్యములు పొత్తుగుడుచునా, బాసలు కలిసివచ్చునా. పొత్తుగుడుపు pottu-guḍupu. n. Eating together as messmates. పంజ్క్తిభోజనము. పొత్తుచేయు pottu-chēyu. v. n. To make friends with, to cultivate friendship, to associate with, స్నేహము చేయు. పొత్తువు pottuvu. n. (p. 1407) baṭcali baṭsṭsali. [Tel.] n. A bathing place; a place for washing vegetables, &c. A certain vegetable. కందకుతేని దంరద బచ్చలి కేమి? (proverb.)

(p. 865) badanika badanika. [Tel.] n. Any parasitic plant. H. ii. 45. S. i. 18. Rox. ii. 185. 'పాముకుబదనికచూపితే ఎంత అలుగునో' (proverb) as disconcerted or irritated as a snake if you shew it the misletoe.

(p. 1088) roṭṭe or రొట్టియ roṭṭe. [H.] n. Bread, a loaf. భక్ష్యభేదము. రొట్టెరిగి నేతిలో బడుట (proverb) the bread broke and fell into the butter. Used of a happy occurrence. to denote one's luck.

(p. 1110) loṭṭa loṭṭa. [Tel.] n. A smack or cluck with the tongue. Hollowness of the eyes of cheeks. Low ground, a pit, పల్లము. ఆముదపులొట్ట the dried stem of the castor oil plant. adj. Sunken, hollow. Dried up, wasted away (as an eye), అణగిగుంటగానుండే. మిట్టపండ్లునుపెనులొట్టకన్గవయును.' Jagannad. i. 54. లొట్టకన్నుజిట్ట loṭṭa-kannu-jiṭṭa. n. The bird called Prinia socialis. See జిట్ట. లొట్టపోవు loṭṭa-pōvu. v. n. To be sunken, అణగు. To be injured. వానికన్ను లొట్టపోయినది his eye is injured. చావుతప్పి కన్ను లొట్టపోయినది (proverb) he escaped death but his eye is injured. చ లొట్టవేయు lotṭa-veyu. v. n. To click or smack the tongue against the palate. దేనినైనను తిని నాలుకతో చప్పుడుచేయు. లొటతాటకత్తె loṭa-tāṭa-katte. n. A cunning wench, a deceitful woman మాయలమారి. 'వెడలిపోజూచెదో వేసాలుపన్నిలోకంబులోలేని లొటతాటకత్తె.' HD. 1901.
