(p. 95) avalambiñcu avalambinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To take hold of any thing; depend on any person or thing. చేపట్టు, ఆశ్రయించు, ఆ మతమును అవలంబించినవారు Converts, those who embraced that creed. ధైర్యము నవలంబంచి picking up courage. ఆయనమాట నవలంబించినారు they embraced his opinion, or sided with him. అవలంబము or అవలంబనము avalambamu n. Taking hold of anything, hanging on or from. Adoption, or profession of certain views. గతి, ఆశ్రయము, మతావలంబనము the adoption of a religion. అవలంబితము adj. That which is adopted, as one's own.

(p. 242) kanna kanna. [Tel.] adj. (Contracted from కనిన who begot). 'By birth' (a parent) as distinguished from పెంపుడు 'by adoption.' కన్నతండ్రి one's own father or natural father; కన్నతల్లి one's own mother; కన్నబిడ్డ a child by birth, not by adoption. కన్న (i.e., కనిన seen, perceived.) adj. Any, miscellaneous, indiscriminately taken, vile. కన్నకూళ్లు any food that one could get. కన్నమాటలు vile language. కన్నవాడు anybody, without selection. కన్నవారు strangers, anybody. కన్నచోట anywhere. In Paraj. v. 46. కన్నదిగతిగా in any way or direction, headlong. కాకి కన్నది తింటుంది the crow eats trash.

(p. 579) datamu dattamu. [Skt. cf. Lat. datus.] adj. Given, presented. ఇయ్యబడిన. Adopted, reared. స్వయందత్తుడు a son self-given, one who being without natural parents or being deserted by them, offers himself for adoption. దత్తత, దత్తత్వము, దత్తు or దత్తువు dattata. n. Adoption. స్వీకారము. దత్తకుడు dattakuḍu. n. An adopted son. దత్తపుత్రుడు. దత్తి datti. n. A gift. ఈవ, దానము. 'దత్తినెతక్క.' A. ii. 38. దత్తుడు a man who is given as a hostage,. కుదువ ఉంచబడినవాడు. దత్తుతీసుకొను to adopt a son.

(p. 785) pempu pempu. [Tel. for పెను.] n. Greatness. మహత్వము, అధిక్యము, అతిశయము. Honour, గౌరవము. Rearing, nourishing, fostering, సాకుట. Increase, growth, వృద్ధి. Plenty. సమృద్ధి. Ruin, నాశము, లయము. గ్రామమును పెంపు చేసినవారు those who enlarged the town. v. a. To ruin, నాశముచేయు. పెంపుడు pempuḍu. adj. Fostered, reared, adopted (as a son,) brought up, tamed, domesticated, పెంపబడిన. పెంపుడుకొమారుడు or దత్తపుత్రుడు an adopted son. పెంవుడుతల్లి an adoptive mother. పెంపుడుతండ్రి an adoptive father. పెంపుడుచిలుక a pet parrot. పెంపరలాడు pemp-ara-l-āḍu. v. n. To be increased, augmented. మిక్కుటమగు. పెంపారు, పెంపగు, పెంపుచెందు, పెంపొందు or పెంపుమీరు pemp-āru. v. n. To increase, grow, improve. వర్ధిల్లు, గొప్పయగు, అతిశయించు.

(p. 990) mīmāṃsa mīmāmsa. [Skt.] n. A discussion or disputation held to find out the truth regarding anything. ప్రమాణైరర్థవిచారణ, ప్రమాణములచేత నిజము గ్రహించడము. Polemical divinity. Theological criticism. The name of one of the six great Indian philosophical systems, పూర్వ మీమాంస is a system of ritualism. ఉత్తరమీమాంస is a system practically the same as the వేదాంతము, జ్ఞానకాండ. పుత్రీకరణమీమాంస is a 'treatise' (or essay) on adopting a daughter. మీమాంసచేయు to dispute, argue. మీ యిద్దరికి ఇందును గురించి చాలా మీమాంసజరిగినది we had a great discussion about this matter. మీమాంసకుడు mīmāmsakuḍu. n. One who knows the Mīmānsa system of philosophy, మీమాంస శాస్త్రము తెలిసినవాడు.
