Also, a check, a bar, a poser, a ruling case or argument. అంకుశమున నిలిపినాడు he made them stop short. ఇది జ్వరాంకుశము this is a specific against fever, that which arrests the disease. కవిగజాంకుశము (title of a book) a code to guide the poets. అంకుశమునకురాని ungovernable, head-strong, untractable, indocile.

(p. 13) antāvasāyi antāvasāyi. [Tel.] n. A barber; a low caste wretch. మంగలవాడు, నీచుడు, గూలవాడు.

(p. 16) ambaramu ambaramu. [Skt.] n. The sky. Cloth woven of cotton. Clothing, apparel. Ambergris. ఆకాశము, వసనము, వస్త్రము, పరిమళద్రవ్యము. See అంబరు. అంబరమణి the gem of heaven, i. e., the sun. అంబరచరుడు one who dwells in the sky. అంబరాంబరుడు n. Sky-cinctured, that is, (dik-ambara) 'naked,' an epithet of Siva. శివుడు.

[Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, obstruction. అడ్డి, విఘ్నము. అడ్డబాస aḍḍa-bāsa. n. A nose jewel. బులాకి. అడ్డబొట్టు aḍḍa-boṭṭu. A cross mark worn by the Hindus on their fore-head. అడ్డమాను aḍḍa-mānu. A cross bar. వాడు అడ్డవాట్లు వేస్తున్నాడు he throws impediments in the way.

(p. 44) addamu addamu. [Tel.] n. A mirror, a pane of glass, అద్దాలు or కంటి అద్దాలు spectacles. అద్దాలతలుపు a glass door. అద్దాలరవిక a spangled jacket. అద్దపుదోసిలి the fee for the looking glass, a certain allowance of grain granted to the village barber as remuneration for his services.

(p. 67) abbaramu abbaramu. [Tel.] adj. and adv. To a surprising degree. n. A wonder, a marvel. ఆశ్చర్యము.

(p. 78) araḍā araḍā. [Tel.] n. The brass or gold mouth of a scabbard. A particular kind of neck jewel. Also, the lion's heads at the ends of the pole of Hindu marriage palankeen. కర్నాటకపల్లకీ బొంగుకొనుకువేసే సింహలలాటములు.

(p. 78) aradaṇḍa ara-danḍa. [Tel.] n. Hand cuffs that slide on a bar of iron. అడ్డముగా నొక యినుపకమ్మి వేసిన చేతి సంకెల.

(p. 83) argaḷamu argaḷamu. [Skt.] n. A round wooden bar or bolt for a door. గడియమాను. (Metaphorically) an impediment, hindrance, restraint. విఘ్నము, అభ్యంతరము. అనర్గళముగా irresistibly. వాని అధికారము అవర్గళముగా జరుగుచున్నది his authority is unrestricted.
