(p. 20) akkaḷiñcu akkaḷinṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To twist, to contract, used of the muscles of the belly, a condition due to want of food. కడుపువెన్నున అంటుకొని పోవునట్టుగా సగ్గించు. 'అక్కళించినపొట్ట మక్కళించి.' Swa. I. 15.

(p. 27) agrahāramu agra-hāramu. [Skt.] n. A street or village inhabited by brahmins. A village of which the old and hereditary cultivators are brahmins. A village granted to brahmins by government for charitable or religious purposes; either rent free, or at a favourable assessment. The conditions on which these villages are held are specified thus, సర్వాగ్రహారము a village free from all tax. శ్రోత్రియాగ్రహారము a village granted at a certain fixed assessment. జోడి అగ్రహారము, or బిల్మకా అగ్రగారము or, కట్టుబడి అగ్రహారము a village granted at a rent which fluctuates with the produce. అగ్రహారికుడు a brahmin belonging to such a village. అగ్రహారమనుభవించేవాడు he who enjoys a village free from tax.

(p. 96) avastha avastha. [Skt.] n. State, condition, situation: trouble, difficulty, atrait. దశ, సంకటము. వాడు నిండా దురవస్థలోనున్నాడు he is in a wretched state. అవస్థాత్రయము, అనగా జాగ్రత్స్వప్నసుషుప్తులు the three states: viz., waking, sleeping and dreaming. అవస్థాచతుష్టయము, అనగా బాల్యావస్థ the period of childhood. యావనావస్థ the period of youth. వార్ధకావస్థ old age. మరణావస్థ the agony of death.

(p. 128) āśramamu āṣramamu. [Skt.] n. Abode, cell, hermitage, retreat (equivalent to a Living, rectory or see). State, stage, period or time of life from a religious point of view. There are four such stages, viz, 1. బ్రహ్మచర్యము bachelorhood or studentship. 2. గార్హస్థ్యము house-holdership or being head of a family. 3. వానప్రస్థము being an anchorite. 4. సన్యాసము being a recluse. ఆశ్రమధర్మము the duties peculiar to each stage of life. ఆశ్రమస్వీకారము āṣrama-svīkāramu. n. Embracing the ascetic condition: bidding farewell to the world.

(p. 160) uniki or ఉన్కి uniki. [Tel. from ఉండు.] n. Being, existence. Stay, dwelling, home, place, residence, state, condition, ఉండుట, స్థితి, స్తానము. మాటాడకునికి remaining silent. హితవుగాకునికి his not being friendly. ఉనికి పట్టు. uniki-paṭṭu. n. Home, dwelling, abode. ఉనుకువ same as ఉనికి.

(p. 203) aitē aitē. [Tel. wrongly used for అయితే the conditional aorist of అగు] conj. If; should it be so, suppose it were so. But, As for, indeed: as నాకైతే తెలియదు I for my part do not know, lit. to me indeed it is unknown. చేను అయితే యిచ్చెనుగాని యిల్లు ఇయ్యలేదు he gave the field indeed but not the house. వాడయితే రాలేదు as for him, he did not come. పూర్వమయితే విన్నాను I heard so indeed formerly. వాడయితే తప్పు చేసినాడు కాని so far as he is concerned he is wrong.

(p. 204) aihikamu aihikamu. [Skt. from ఇహము.] adj. Pertaining to the present world or this life, temporal. The condition of being here on earth.

(p. 269) kāḍa kāḍa. [Tel. for కడ.] adv. At near, by. ఇంటికాడ at home, at his house. 'తలయంటుకాడితడవు' A. vi. 94. కొనేచోటి విలంబము. n. State, condition, rate, thus: వానియిల్లు ఈకాడికి వచ్చినది to such a state is his family reduced. ఈ గుడ్డ యేకాడికి యిస్తావు at which rate do you sell this cloth?

(p. 271) kāpu . kāpu. [Tel. from కాచు.] కాచు. n. Keeping, attendance. Protection, guard. రక్షణము. Heat, warmth (This is from కాగు.) Productiveness కాయలుకాచుట. The crop or fruit. కాపుడిగినచెట్టు a tree that is past bearing. కండ్లకు రెప్పలు కాపుగానున్నవి the eyelids are a protection to the eyes. కాపు ఉంచు to place a guard. కాపు or కాపువాడు n. A tenant. A farmer, a cultivator. A rustic or countryman. A person, an individual, a dweller. మంచు కొండకాపు or హిమాచలవాసి. Siva రుద్రుడు. సొమ్ముకాపు a holder or owner of property. పాలికాపు a member or shareholder. మహనాటికాపులు leaguesmen, members of the (Mahanādu) community. కాపుగడ or కాపుడు kāpugaḍa. n. Protection. కాచుట, రక్షించుట. కాప kāpa. adj. Appertaining to the farmer caste. కాపమాటలు rustic language. The vocative of కాపు a farmer. ఓకాప, నీవెట్లొకో వచ్చితి విటకు O farmer, how did you come here? B.D. iv. 1963. కావత. kāpata. n. A country girl, a rustic. The female of కాపు. కాపుతనము kāpu-tanamu. n. The rustic condition, the state of farmers. ఈ కాపుతనమును విడిచిపెట్టడము మేలు it would be better to give up the farming business. కాపుది A woman of the farming caste, a female rustic.

(p. 351) gaṭṭi gaṭṭi. [Tel.] adj. Hard, firm, strong, substantial. Tight. Able, clever, expert. Brave, courageous, resolute, smart, fine. Loud. గట్టిచెర close imprisonment. గట్టిబొట్టు Full sunna, or the circle -- Appa C. ii. 27. గట్టిమోపుగానుండేదారి a very heavy road. గట్టించు gaṭṭinṭsu. v. a. To load a gun, to beat into a hard mass. గట్టనచేయు. గట్టిగా or ఘట్టిగా gaṭṭi-gā. adv. Well, strongly. Properly, tight, fast. Eminently, especially, seriously, greatly. Loudly, aloud. గట్టిగా రావలసినది you must positively come. గట్టిగా చదువు read aloud. ఇల్లు గట్టిగానున్నది the house is in good condition or is solid-built. గట్టిచేయు gaṭṭi-chēyu. v. a. To make firm. పాఠము గట్టిచేయు to get a lesson by heart. వాడు ఇస్తానన్నమాటను గట్టిచేయుము you should make him keep his promise. గట్టితనము gaṭṭi-tanamu. n. Cleverness, ability. గట్టినాణెము gaṭṭi-nāṇemu. n. Bullion. గట్టినబోది gaṭṭina-bōdi. n. A game played by boys. కాళ. iii. గట్టివ gaṭṭiva. [గట్టి+వాయి.] n. An isolent man. ధూర్తుడు. గట్టివాడు gaṭṭi-vāḍu. n. An able or skilful man. సమర్థుడు. గట్టివాయి gaṭṭi-vāyi. n. A brawling woman. గయ్యాళి, ధూర్తురాలు.

(p. 355) gati gati. [Skt.] n. Way. త్రోవ. Going, gait, pace, march, passage. గమనము. Means, resource, fund, contrivance, expedient, remedy. ఉపాయము. Refuge, resort, help, aid. దిక్కు. Fate, lot, destiny, state, hap, condition, situation. విధి. An adventure. (In the Līla, the different cantos are called గతులు.) Salvation, rescue రక్షణము. Ability, power శక్తి. నాగతి యేమి what is to become of me? ఇందుకు వేరేగతి ఉన్నది for this there is another remedy. దైవగతి divine providence. గతిలేని helpless, destitute, abject. వానికి దానిని చెల్లించుటకు గతిలేదు he is unable to pay it, he is without means of payment. పుత్రుడులేనివారికి గతిలేదు the childless have no hope (or prospect) of heaven. పటుగతి strongly దిట్టముగా. గతించు gatinṭsu. v. n. To pass away, elapse, కడచు. To die. చచ్చు. గతికల్పించు to devise an expedient. గతికుడు gatikuḍu. n. He who has a resource. అనన్యగతికుడై having no other resource. గతుడు gatuḍu. n. One who is gone or entered. ఆనందాబ్ధిగతుండనై I plunged in a sea of bliss. గత్యంతరము gat-y-antaramu. n. An alternative: an other means, or resource.

(p. 434) cēdarthakamu chēd-arthakamu. [Skt. చేత్+అర్థకము] n. The subjunctive or conditional form of a verb.

(p. 584) daśa daṣa. [Skt.] n. State, condition. అవస్థ. Power, authority, influence. Luck. fortune. బాల్యదశ childhood. వృద్ధదశ old age. క్రామదశవచ్చెను a time of famine came. నీ జాతకప్రకారము రెండు దశలు భాగ్యనుభవించివలసి నదిన్ని రెండుదశలు గ్రహచారము అనుభవించవలసినదిన్ని your destiny gives you two portions of good and two of evil. ఆ రాజు ఎన్ని దశలు బాగ్యమును అనుభవించినాడు what proportion of the king's life was happy? గ్రహదశ the influence of the stars. మహాదశ the rule or away of the predominant planet, qualified or modified by అంతర్ధశ the several influences of the minor planets. అతడు జీవదశనున్నప్పుడు when he was alive. కష్టదశలోనున్నాడు he is in difficulties.
