Cross. నన్ను అడ్డమైన మాటలు ఆడినాడు he reviled me. అడ్డమైనకూళ్లు any food that comes to the hand. నాకు అడ్డమైనపని పెట్టుతున్నాడు he employs me in anything that comes to hand. వాడు అడ్డదోవలు తొక్కుచున్నాడు he goes the wrong way to work. అడ్డకట్ట aḍḍa-kaṭṭa. [Tel.] n. A dam or bank, an embankment. సేతువు, చేలకు నీళ్లు నిలిచేటందుకు కట్టిన గట్టు. అడ్డకత్తి aḍḍakatti. A broad sword. పట్టిసము. అడ్డకమ్మి aḍḍa-kammi. A cross piece, the cross selvage in cloth. అడ్డకర్ర aḍḍa-karra. A cross-piece of timber: an obstacle: a bar. విఘూతము. నా పనికి అడ్డకర్రలు వేయుచున్నాడు he throws difficulties in my way. See అడ్డము. అడ్డగోడ addagōḍa a cross-wall. అడ్డచాపు aḍḍa-tṣāpu. A cross beam. అడ్డవాసము. అడ్డతల aḍḍa-tala. A narrow projecting head: having a narrow fore head. నిడుపు తల. అడ్డదూలము aḍḍa-dūlamu. A cross beam. అడ్డదోవ aḍḍa-dōva. A crossway. అడ్డపలక aḍḍa-palaka. A cross plank. అడ్డపట్టె. aḍḍa-paṭṭe. A thick board drawn by two oxen used for smoothing a ploughed field after the grain is sown. మడిసమముచేసే మాను. అడ్డుపడు aḍḍa-paḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To interpose, to help; to obstruct, impede. విఘూతమగు, వారించు. నా పనికి అడ్డుపడ్డాడు he threw obstacles in my way. భార్యను కొట్టబోతే కొడుకు అడ్డుపడినాడు as he was going to strike his wife his son interposed. నేనడ్డపడకపోతే వాండ్లు వత్తురు had I not interposed they would have died. అడ్డపాటు aḍḍa-pāṭu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, obstruction. అడ్డి, విఘ్నము. అడ్డబాస aḍḍa-bāsa. n. A nose jewel. బులాకి. అడ్డబొట్టు aḍḍa-boṭṭu. A cross mark worn by the Hindus on their fore-head. అడ్డమాను aḍḍa-mānu. A cross bar. వాడు అడ్డవాట్లు వేస్తున్నాడు he throws impediments in the way.

(p. 77) ayōmayamu ayō-mayamu. [Skt.] adj. Made of iron; abstruse, hard, difficult. ఇనుముతో చేసిన, కఠినమైన. నేను ఈ అయోమయములో పడియున్నాను. I am now in these difficulties.

(p. 132) iṇṭramu inṭramu. [Tel.] Same as ఇంటరము. ఇంట్రపడు inṭra-paḍu. v. i. To be in difficulties, to suffer. సంకటపడు.

(p. 369) gīzu gīzu. [Tel.] n. Haggling. గీజుపోరు to haggle. గీ౛ాడు gīzāḍu. v. n. To haggle, raise difficulties.

Luck. fortune. బాల్యదశ childhood. వృద్ధదశ old age. క్రామదశవచ్చెను a time of famine came. నీ జాతకప్రకారము రెండు దశలు భాగ్యనుభవించివలసి నదిన్ని రెండుదశలు గ్రహచారము అనుభవించవలసినదిన్ని your destiny gives you two portions of good and two of evil. ఆ రాజు ఎన్ని దశలు బాగ్యమును అనుభవించినాడు what proportion of the king's life was happy? గ్రహదశ the influence of the stars. మహాదశ the rule or away of the predominant planet, qualified or modified by అంతర్ధశ the several influences of the minor planets. అతడు జీవదశనున్నప్పుడు when he was alive. కష్టదశలోనున్నాడు he is in difficulties.

(p. 659) nirdhāramu or నిర్ధారణ nir-dhāramu [Skt.] n. Certainty; ascertainment, determination; a resolution. నిశ్చయము. నిర్ధారణ చేయు or నిర్ధరించు nir-dhrāraṇa-chēyu. v. a. To determine, or resolve. కాశీ. v. నిర్ధారణీయము or నిర్ధార్యము nir-dhāraṇīyamu. adj. Fit to be determined or settled. నిర్ధారణచేయదగిన. నిర్ధారితము nir-dhāritamu. adj. Settled or determined. నిర్ధారణచేయబడిన. నిర్ధార్యుడు nir-dhāryuḍu. n. A man of determination, one who fights his way in spite of difficulties. దుఃఖములు మొదలైన ఆటంకములు కలిగినను వెనుకతీయక పూనుకొనినపనిని విడువక చేయువాడు.

(p. 678) nerasu nerasu. [Tel.] n. A mote, atom, particle. నులుసు. A flaw or small defect, కళంకము, దోషము. A stumbling block, defect, puzzle, hitch: a fault, తప్పు. A. iv. 270. వానిసంగతి నాకు బహునెరసుగా నున్నది his affair is a riddle to me. నెరసరి neras-ari. n. A hero, శూరుడు. A troublesome person, a plague, a tormentor. ఇబ్బందిశత్రువు. P. i. 354. నెరసులుపట్టు nerasulu-paṭṭu. v. n. To boggle, make difficulties, find flaws.

(p. 836) prayāsamu or ప్రయాస pra-yāsamu. [Skt.] n. Toil, violent effort, trouble, difficulty, pain. శ్రమము. ఆ మాట వినడమునకే ప్రయాసముగానున్నది it is painful even to hear that word. నేను చెప్పేమాటలు అతను వినడమే ప్రయాస it is hard to get him to listen to what I say. ప్రయాసపడు pra-yāsa-paḍu. v. n. To try hard, to take pains, to incur difficulties, to suffer. శ్రమపడు.

(p. 859) baṇḍi banḍi. [Tel.] n. A cart, gig, carriage, coach, waggon, శకటము. A car, రథము. The four kinds of బండ్లు are గూడుబండి or చాపబండి a cart covered with a mat. పెట్టెబండి a palanquin coach, or a bullock coach. విల్లుబండి a carrriage on springs. కోచిబండి an English 'coach.' The piece of wood round which gold lace or cotton lace is rolled: so called because shaped like an axle between two wheels. బండికల్లు banḍi-kallu. n. The wheel of a carriage or cart. కల్లు, రథచక్రము. (కల్లు is a stone, as the wheels, were originally made of stone. Such are still seen in remote towns.) బండికల్లు రూపాయి or బండిరూపాయి banḍi-kallu-rūpāyi. n. A milled rupee: lit: one like a wheel. బండిగిల్లు banḍi-gillu. v. n. To suffer difficulties. కడగండ్లుపడు. బండిగురిగిం౛ or బండిగురువెంద banḍi-guriginḍza. n. The vine called Dalbergia volubilis. Rox. iii. 231. కాంభోజిలత. బండిమొగ్గరము banḍi-moggaramu. n. A certain military evolution called శకటవ్యూహము, which is shaped like a cart. బండిరిక్క banḍi-rikka. n. The star called రోహిణి. బండిరేఫ banḍi-rēpha. n. 'The great R.' The leter ర; which is so named from బండి a wheel. శపటరేఫ. (The Pandits have made fruitless efforts to introduce this obsolete letter into modern Telugu.) బండిరేవు banḍi-rēvu. n. A ford in a river where carts cross it. The great shore. బండిరొట్ట banḍi-roṭṭa. n. A sort of fodder.

(p. 946) maṇi maṇi. [Skt.] n. A gem, a precious stone. పచ్చరాయిలోనగునది. A pearl, ముత్తెములోనగునది. In compounds this denotes Unrivalled excellence, as నాయికామణి a woman who is a gem of her sex. వప్రమణి the noblest of Brahmins. సుందరీమణి the loveliest of women. అంగనామణులు lovely women. దినమణి the gem of day, i.e., the sun. నవమణులు nine precious stones, viz. గోమేధికము Onyx, నీలము Sapphire, పగడము Coral, పుర్యరాగము Topaz, మరకతము Emerald, మాణిక్యము Ruby, Carbuncle; ముత్యము Pearl, వైడూర్యము Cat's eye. lapis lazuli; వజ్రము Diamond. మణులుచెక్కిన సంకెళ్లు jewelled fetters, i.e., disguised difficulties. మణికంఠము maṇi-kanṭhamu. n. The Indian Roller, Corracia indica, చాషము, పాలపిట్ట మణికట్టు, మనికట్టు or మణిబంధము maṇi-kaṭtu. [Tel.] n. The wrist; మణికట్లను తెగగొట్టు to cut off the hands. మణికారుడు maṇi-kāruḍu. n. A jeweller. A lapidary, or worker in precious stones. రత్నములు సానబట్టువాడు. మణిపట్టు maṇi-paṭṭu. n. A sort of flowered silk. ఒకవిధమైనపట్టు. మణిప్రవాళము maṇi-pravāḷamu. n. A doggerel verse: or a mixed language, part Sanscrit, part Telugu or Tamil, రెండు భాషలు కలిసిన. ముణిభతు maṇi-phittu. n. A diamond. Lit. 'the ruby cutter.' కలిసిన కవిత్వము. మణిమాల, మణిమాలిక or మణిబిందుమాలికా maṇi-māla. n. An impression left by a bite. దంతక్షతవిశేషము. A necklace. హారము. 'కమనీయమణిమాలికా శశ పదచంద్రరేఖాంకమౌతనూ రేఖతోడ.' T. iii. 126.

(p. 1225) vēḷākōḷamu vēḷā-kōḷamu. [Tel.] n. Intricacy. చిక్కు. Ridicule, derision, joking, పరిహాసము. వేళాకోళమునొందు to be caught in difficulties, చిక్కులబడు; to be ridiculed, పరిహసింపబడు. 'ఆలుంబిడ్డల కొరకై జాలింబడి ధనముగూర్చి చచ్చినదనుకన్ వేళాకోళము నొందుచు స్త్రీలోలుండైనవాడు చెడిపోపాలై.' Ramastava Raj. ii. 62. వేళాకోళపు vēḷā-kōḷapu. adj. Intricate, puzzling. చిక్కుగానుండే. 'క వేళాకోళపుదీగెలు, బేలలికలుగళాసములును బీరజడలుదా, దాలుచుటెట్లొకొమింటన్, లీలాహరి దోలనింతనేర్పరియయ్యున్.' KP. iii. 79. Ridiculing, joking, derisive, పరిహాసమైన.
