(p. 5) aṅgamu angamu. [Skt.] n. The body, a limb, member, part, division or branch. అంగవంచకము = ఉపాయము, సహాయము, దేశకాలవిభజనము, ఆపదకు ప్రతిక్రియ, కార్యసిద్ధి. అద్భుతాంగులు beings having wondrous forms. అష్టాంగములు = the eight forms or stages of meditation, i. e, యమము, నియమము, ప్రాణాయామము, ప్రత్యాహారము, ధ్యానము, ధారణ, మననము, సమాధి. చతురంగములు the four divisions of an army, i. e., రథములు, ఏనుగులు, గుర్రములు, బంటులు. పంచాంగము the Indian calendar giving particulars of each day, as తిథి, వారము, నక్షత్రము, యోగము, కరణము. రాజ్యాంగములు the various departments of Government. షడంగములు or వేదాంగములు the six sciences dependent on the Vedas. i. e., శిక్ష, కల్పము, వ్యాకరణము, నిరుక్తము, జ్యోతిషము, ఛందస్సు. సప్తాంగములు = the seven constituents of a Government. స్వామి, అమాత్యుడు, సుహృత్తు, కోశము, రాష్ట్రము, దుర్గము, బలము. సాష్టాంగ ప్రణామము prostrate homage, touching the ground with eight members of the body, i. e., eyes or chest and forehead, hands, knees and feet.

(p. 15) andupāṭu andupāṭu. [Tel.] n. Nearness adj. Near close. సమీపమైన. అందుపాటు గ్రామము a neighbouring town.

(p. 20) akkasari akkasari. [H.] adj. Neighbouring, near. సమీపములోనుండే. అక్కసరి ఊరు a neighbouring village.

(p. 46) adhityaka adhityaka. [Skt.] n. Uplands. Heights. పర్వతోర్ధ్వభూమి.

(p. 86) alaghu a-laghu. [Skt.] adj. Not light. Heavy, large, big. భారమైన. అలఘువు a-laghuvu. n. A long vowel; a sound equal to two mātras or simple sounds. గురువు, గుర్వక్షరము. అలఘుడు a-laghuḍu. n. A man of weight. A respectable man. దొడ్డవాడు, గొప్పవాడు.

(p. 93) avadhānamu ava-dhānamu. [Skt.] n. Attention, care, regard. మనోయోగము, ఎచ్చరిక, అవధాని or అవధానుడు n. He who is attentive or careful. He who is skilled in the Vedas. ఎచ్చరికగలవాడు, జాగ్రతగలవాడు, వేదము బాగుగా వచ్చినవాడు. అష్టావధాని a versatile man; one who can attend to eight matters simultaneously. శతవధాని n. One who can attend to a hundred things at one and the same time.

(p. 98) aśīti aṣīti. [Skt.] (a numeral adj.) Eighty. ఎనుబది. అశీతిభాగము the eightieth part. అశీతికుడు an octogenarian.

(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

(p. 100) aṣṭamamu ashṭamamu. [Skt.] adj. The eighth. అష్టమి ashṭami. n. The eighth lay after the new or full moon, the eighth phase of the moon. ఎనిమిదవ తిథి. అష్టావదశము ashṭā-daṣamu. adj. Eighteen. పదునెనిమిదవది.

(p. 109) āgu āgu. [Tel.] v. n. To stop, to stay, asbtain, refrain. To bear (as a cord does a weight.) To be confined, set aside, or reserved. ఆయింటను ఆగబడి యున్నదేవకి (B. X. 75.) Devaki who was kept in restraint. తల్లిదండ్రులులెని బాలురు ఆగ నీవు దిక్కు thou art the refuge of the helpless. పశువులకు ఆరినబీడు land set aside or reserved for pasture. ఇది లేనిది నాకు ఆగదు I cannot get on without this. నా నోటిలో ఆ మాట ఆగదు I cannot keep that word a secret. ఆగు, ఆగించు, ఆచు, ఆపు the causal of ఆగు: āgu. [Tel.] v. t. To stop, check, hinder. To keep, tend. To look to, superintend, guard, protect, preserve. To fold or gather as a flock. నోరాచి మాట్లాడిరి they spoke cautiously. చెయ్యి ఆపక (T. v. 22.) without intermission. నిద్ర ఆచుట to refrain from sleep, keep away drowsiness. రాత్రిళ్లు ఇక్కడ మందులు ఆచుకొని యుండేవారు they used to keep cattle here at nights.

(p. 113) ātaramu ātaramu. [Skt.] n. Freight, fare. కేవు, ఓడకిచ్చెడి కూలి.

(p. 115) ānamitamu ānamitamu. [Skt.] adj. Bowed, weighed down, bent. వంచబడిన.

(p. 121) āramu āramu. [Skt.] n. One side or angle of a polygon. ద్వాదశారము a twelve sided body. సాష్టారక eight sided.

(p. 125) ālōcana ā-lōchana. [Skt.] n. Thought, looking at, or examining. Consultation, consideration, reflection, counsel, policy, deliberation, plan, intent, purpose, motive, imagination, supposition, advice, view, intention. ఆలోచనకు తెచ్చు to weigh, consider, view, regard. ఆలోచించు ālōchinṭsu. v. a. To think, view, consider. consult, deliberate, suppose or reflect.
