(p. 37) aḍugu aḍugu. [Tel.] n. The foot, the footstep, a pace, step, the bottom, basis. A foot in length containing twelve inches. A line of verse. Thus four 'feet' make one stanza, or quatrain. చెట్టు అడుగు the foot of a tree. అడుగురాయి a stone at the bottom కొండ అడుగుననుండే ఊరు a village at the foot of a mountain. ఆ కథను అడుగునుంచి చెప్పు tell the story from the beginning. కుండ అడుగు the bottom of a pot. అడుగంటకోయు to cut off by the root. అడుగుతో పెళ్లగించు to eradicate, to root out. అడుగారిపోవు to be utterly ruined. నా మాటకు అడుగుదాటకు do not transgress my command. వాని అడుగుల జాడ పట్టుకొని పోయినారు they traced his footsteps and followed him. అడుగడుగున or అడుగడుగునకు step by step, now and then, often. అన్నము అడుగంటినది the rice has burnt at the bottom of the pot.

(p. 156) utpāṭanamu ut-pāṭanamu. [Skt.] n. Rooting out, eradication. పెరికివేయుట. ఉత్పాటించు utpāṭinṭsu. v. a. To root out or eradicate. పెరికివేయు. ఉత్పాటితము utpāṭitamu. adj. Eradicated, rooted up.

(p. 160) unmūlamu un-mūlamu. [Skt.] adj. Radical. or from the root వేరుతెగిన. ఉన్మూలముగా radically, by the roots. ఉన్మూలించు un-mūlinṭsu. v. t. To root up, eradicate, destroy. పెల్లగించు. ఉన్మూలితము unmūlitamu. adj. Eradicated, pulled up by the roots. వేరుతో పెల్లగింపబడిన.

(p. 174) ūḍucu ūḍuṭsu. [Tel.] v. a. To sweep. To slacken, loosen, divest, open, sever, separate. ఊడజేయు To wrest, take by force. To transplant. నారునాటు. To root out, to eradicate. ఉడుపు చేయించిన పొలము a field in which rice plants have been set (by transplanting.) తలలూడ్చె he smote off their heads. R. v. 275. ఊడుపు ūḍupu. n. Sweeping: ఊడ్చడము. transplanting. నారు నాటుట. ఊడుపుపొలము land in which shoots are transplanted.

(p. 599) dumpa dumpa. [Tel.] n. A root. The wedge like part of a plough, నాగలిగొడగ. దుంపకూర any edible root. దుంపవలెనున్నాడు he is very strong. బంగాళాదుంపలు or సీమదుంపలు potatoes. దుంపనాగు dumpa-ṇāgu. n. A sort of snake. G. viii. 101. దుంపనాశనము dumpa-nāṣanamu. n. Total ruin, eradication. వానిని దుంపనాశనము చేసినాడు he ruined him root and branch. దుంపబచ్చలి a kind of plant, a species of బచ్చలి (q. v.) Basella rubra or lucida. ఉపోదకి. దుంపరాష్ట్రము or పెద్దదుంపరాష్ట్రము the Rhizome the Greater Galangal, or Jāva Galangal, Alpinia galanga. సన్న దుంపరాష్ట్రము the Lesser Galangal, Aplinia Officinarum. (p. 657) nir nir. A Sanskrit particle prefixed in words of that language and implying negation, privation, &c. This prefix varies in accordance with the rules of Sanskrit sandhi. In some cases it becomes నిష్ as నిష్ఫలమైన fruitless. When attached to a word which begins with S, it becomes నిస్, as నిస్సందేహముగా doubtlessly. When it is followed by a vowel, it remains unaltered as నిరాటంకముగా unchecked. The compounds in which this prefix is used are here put together. నిరంకుశము nir-ankuṣamu. adj. Unrestrained, free, uncontrolled, resistless. అడ్డములేని. నిరంజనము nir-anjanamu. adj. Free, void of passion or emotion, stainless. నిర్దోషమైన. నిరంతరము nir-antaramu. adj. (p. 793) pella or పెళ్ల pella. [Tel.] n. A lump, clod; a chip; a flake; a raw brick. పెల్లగించు or పెళ్లగించు pella-ginṭsu. v. a. To pull out, root out, draw out. To dig up, unbury, unearth, eradicate. ఆ చెట్టును పెళ్లగించి మరియొక చోట పెట్టినాడు, లేక, పాతినాడు he took up the tree and planted it elsewhere. పెల్లగిల్లు or పెల్లగిలు pella-gillu. v. n.To come out by the roots. పాదుఊడిలేచు. To run away, పారిపోవు. వాడు అత్తవారింటినుంచి పెల్లగిలివచ్చు గతిగా నుండలేదు he seems unlikely to stir from his mother in-law's house. గాలివానకు చెట్లు కుంకటివేళ్లతో పెల్లగిలినవి the trees were torn up by the roots by the storm. ఆ గోడగార అంతా పెల్లగిలిపోయినది all the plaster of the wall came off or peeled off.

(p. 1269) saṃ or సమ్ sam. [Skt.] prefix. When used with Skt. nouns and adjectives, it means beautiful, చక్కని. Much, very, మిక్కిలి. Places before verbs, it means Well, చక్కగా. See. సంక్షోభము, సంక్షోభించు, సంఘటిల్లు, సంచరించు, సంచలించు, సంతుష్టి, సందర్శించు, సంపూర్ణము, సంపూర్తి, సంప్రాప్తి, సంప్రీతి, సంయుక్తము, సంయుతము, సంయోగము, సంరక్షించు, సంస్తుతి, &c.
