(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 446) cāṭu ṭsāṭu. [Tel.] n. A shelter, or covering, a screen, or shade, a nook, any thing concealing another or preventing its being seen. మరుగు. తల్లిచాటున in her mother's charge. నేను చాటుగా నిలిస్తిని I stood behind. చాటుచేయు to use as a screen. చెట్టుచాటున behind the tree. చాటుననుండే hidden, screened, unknown. పెట్టె చాటున దొరికినది I found it behind the box. ఆ కొండ చాటు అయినది that hill intercepts the view. చాటుగానుంచు to keep hidden. చాటు. v. a. To proclaim, publish. To warn, threaten, declare. To confess, betray, evince ప్రసిద్ధిచేయు, విశదపరుచు. చాటించు ṭsāṭinṭsu. v. a. To proclaim, to publish, advertise, notify, make known, declare, warn, threaten, foretell, denounce. చాటింపు ṭsāṭimpu. n. Proclamation, advertisement. చాటుపడు ṭsāṭu-paḍu. v. n. To be hidden from view మరుగుపడు. చాటున ṭsāṭuva. n. Proclamation చాటించుట. Comparison, పోలిక, దృష్టాంతము. చాటుమాటుమనిషి a suspicious character, a skulker.

(p. 531) tirugu tirugu. [Tel.] v. n. To turn, rove, roam, travel. సంచరించు To be giddy. పరిభ్రమించు. To go back. వెనుకకుమరలు. To come again. మరలవచ్చు. To cease, go off, as, disease, be revoked, as an order. To fail, miss, be fruitless, to break one's faith. అతడు ఈ పనిలో తిరిగినాడు he was engaged in this business. వానికి ఒళ్లు తిరిగినది he felt giddy, he was sick, or vomited. మధ్యతిరుగు to intercede, act between others, be an agent. వానికి నోరు బాగా తిరగదు he does not pronounce well. ఆ మాట నా నోట్లో తిరగదు. I cannot pronounce that word. కావలితిరుగు to stand sentry. తిరగదీయు to tamper with or corrupt a witness తమ మాటకు తిరుగులేదు you are supreme: your word is law. హుండి తిరిగిపోయినది the bill was dishonoured. చుక్కలు తిరిగినది the stars have turned, i.e., it is past midnight. తిరుగాణి (తిరుగు+ఆణి.) a screw. సందుల తిరిగిరి they went round by the alleys. తిరుగు v. a. To go round, encircle. సరివేష్టించు. తిరుగు or తిరుగుడు tirugu. n. A turning, a turning back, తిరుగుట, భ్రమణము. A change మారుపాటు. A screw, a rivet, a carpenter's vice. మర. A bend or turn (as in a road.) The point on which an affair turns. తిరుగుడుబండి a return cart. లెక్కలో తిరుగుడు వచ్చినది or తిరుగుళ్లుపడినవి there is a difficulty, a question, a point to be cleared. తిరుగుడుచీల or తిరుగుడునొక్కు a screw, మర. తిరుగుడు పువ్వు tiruguḍu-puvvu. n. The turning flower, i.e., the sun flower. A sort of gold jewel worn by women. తిరుగుడుత్రాడు a noose, ఉరి, ఉచ్చు. తిరుగుదల tirugudala. n. A turn. మరలుట. వ్యాధి తిరుగుదలగా నున్నది the disease is on the turn. తిరుగుడుపడు to turn, to be giddy పరిభ్రమించు. తిరుగుడుపాటు tiruguḍu-pāṭu. n. Rebellion, resistance. తిరుగబడు or తిరగబడు tiruga-baḍu. v. t. To turn against, to rebel against, to oppose, to attack angrily. తిరగబాటు or తిరుగబాటు tiraga-bāṭu. n. Disobedience, rebellion, turning against. తిరగబోయు or తిరుగబోయు tiraga-bōyu. v. a. To spice, or season (a curry.) తిరగబోత or తిరుగబోత tiraga. n. Seasoning, putting spice, &c., to food. తిరగవేయు or తిరుగవేయు tiraga-vēyu v. a. To turn a thing over. తిరుగ or తిరుగా tiruga. adv. Again. తిరుగడ tirugaḍa. (తిరుగు+గడ.) n. A pipe which is turned by a screw. మరపెట్టినగొట్టము. తిరుగలి or తిరగలి tirugali. (తిరుగు+కల్లు.) n. A hand mill. (or తిరుగు+కలి.) Turning భ్రమము. తిరుగుబోతు tirugu-bōtu. n. A rambler, rover, giddy fool. తిరుగుమొరుగు or తిరుగుమరుపు tirugu-morugu. n. An intricacy, refinement. Ila. iii. 16. తిరుగుమొగము tirugu-mogamu. n. Turning away the face. విముఖము. తిరుగుపారు tirugu-pāru. v. t. To surround. పరివేష్టించు.

(p. 631) naḍumu naḍumu. [Tel.] n. The middle, the waist, or loins. కాను. The middle portion మధ్యబాగము. నడుముకట్టుకొను naḍumu-kaṭṭu-konu. v. n. To undertake, to make oneself ready. To gird up the loins, to be ready. సిద్ధపడు. To take a vow of chastity, నడుమంతరము or నడుమంత్రము naḍu-mantaramu. (నడుము+అంతరము.) adj. Extraordinary, unprecedented, unthought of, as a windfall. n. The waist, కొను. An interval, మధ్యకాలము. adj. Middling, neither here nor there. నడమంతరపేరు an alias. నడమంతరపు ఐశ్వర్యమునకును వరము మీది పుండునకును చురుకు అధికము those who have recently become rich and an ulcer on a nerve give great trouble. నడమంతరముగా nada-mantaramu-gā. adv. Unexpectedly. నడుచొచ్చు naḍu-ṭsoṭsṭsu. v. n. To come in the middle, to interpose, నడుమ ప్రవేశించు. నడుదింపు naḍu-dimpu. n. The flesh in the loins. మాంసవిశేషము. నడుములో చెక్కు to pocket, because they stick a handkerchief, &c., in at the girdle. నడుముపడిన gone in the loins, broken down, debilitated. నడుము వదిలినది there was an emission of semen. నడుమ or నడమ naḍuma. adj. Middle, centrical. నడుమును. adj. and postp. In the middle, meanwhile,. through, between. ఈ నడుమ presently: (also) lately. ఆ నడుమ meantime. నడమ వచ్చినారు they came between or interposed; they came as messengers or representatives. నడుమ వచ్చినవానికి ఇంత అధికారమా is an interloper to presume thus? నడుమ మాట్లాడు to interrupt one while speaking: or to intercede, to mediate. నడాన or నడుమను nadāna. adv. In the middle; midway.
