(p. 32) aṭṭu aṭṭu. [Tel.] n. A cake roasted or baked (on an iron plate.) పెనము మీద కాల్చినది. ఇందున గురించి ఊరంతా అట్టుడికినట్టు ఉడుకుచున్నది the whole town is in a stir about this. (Homer, Odyss. xx. 10.) The whole town rings with the news. అట్టుకట్టు aṭṭtukaṭṭu. v. n. To be formed, as a cake. అట్టువలె నేర్పడుట. అట్టు పుట్టానవాలు aṭṭupuṭṭānavālu. n. An exact description. యావత్తు వివరము. అట్లతద్దె aṭlatadde. [Tel.] n. Cake-day, a feast that falls on the new moon in the month of Aswija when women offer buns in payment of vows. Plural అట్లు.

(p. 67) abbālāḍu abbālāḍu. [Tel. అబ్బాలు+ఆడు] v. n. To grope. దేవులాడు. To get flurried. తడబడు.

(p. 96) avasaramu avasaramu. [Skt.] n. Occasion, opportunity, వేళ, సమయము, కార్యోచిత సమయము. ఇది మూడో అవసరము this is the third time. 'చేరవచ్చు నయ్యవసరంబున,' T. iii. 39. అవసరము also means food offered as a meal to a god, or a kind of mantram said on the occasion. శ్రీరంగములో అరువై అవసరములు అరగింపు చేయుదురు they make an offering of sixty meals. Also necessity, urgency, hurry, flurry. అగత్యము, ఆతురము. అవసరమైనప్పుడు నిన్ని పిలిపించుకొంటాను I will send for you when necessary. అవసరము చేస్తే పని వెడిపోవును if you hurry the business will be spoiled. అది నాకు అవసరము లేదు. I have no occasion for this. అవసరము adj. Necessary, urgent, hurried, hasty. అగత్యమైన, అతురమైన, అవసరమైన పని urgent business. అవసరపడు avasara-paḍu. v. n. To hurry, to haste. అవసరముగా adv. Urgently, in haste. అగత్యముగా, ఆతురముగా, అవసరించు ava-sarinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To hurry, make haste. త్వరచేయు.

(p. 105) ahi ahi. [Skt.] n. A snake or serpent. సర్పము, పాము. అహితుండికుడు ahi-tuṇ-ḍikuḍu. n. A snake catcher. పాములవాడు. అహిపతి ahi-pati. n. The lord of snakes, ఆదిశేషువు. అహిభుక్కు ahi-bhukku. [Skt. lit. the serpent-eater.] n. The Eagle. The peacock. గరుత్మంతుడు, నెమలి. అహిభయము ahi-bhayamu. [Skt.] n. (p. 111) āḍa āḍa. [Tel. corrupted from ఆడు] adj. Female. ఆడగుంపు a mob of women. ఆడకండ్లదానను I am a timid woman ఆడకూతురు a woman. ఆడతనము āḍa-tanamu. n. Womanishness, weakness. ఆడది āḍadi. A woman; plural ఆడవాండ్లు or ఆడవాండ్రు ఆడపడుచు āḍa-paduṭsu. A girl, a young woman. ఆడపాప āḍa-pāpa. Girl. A lady in waiting, a handmaid. ఆడమనిషి āḍa-manishi. A woman.

(p. 111) āḍaṅgi or ఆణంగి āḍangi. [Tel.] n. A female. (Usually in the plural alone) ఆడంగులు, or ఆణంగులు women. ఆడంగిమాటలు language fit for a woman. ఆడంగిలేకి a girlish fop.

(p. 120) āra āra. [Tel.] n. A shoemaker's awl. మాదిగవానిసూది. ఆర adv. (lit. so as to fill) Much; fully. (From ఆరు.) It is often added to a noun; as చెవులార వింటిని I heard it distinctly: కండ్లార చూస్తిని I saw him plainly with my own eyes. కడుపార భోజనము చేసినాను I ate to the full. ఆర āra. [Tel.] A vocative plural suffix as అన్నలార. O brothers!

(p. 127) āśa āṣa. [Skt.] n. Love, attachment, desire, wish, hope, passion, inclination, curiosity, avarice. ఆశాపాశము or ఆశాబంధము the chain of our lusts, fleshly ties. ఆశకొలుపు āsa-kolupu. v. t. To cause to desire, to allure, tempt, incite, encourage, to hold out prospects. ఆశపడు āṣa-paḍu. To desire, covet, long for. ఆశాపాతకుడు āṣā-pātakuḍu. n. A covetous man. ఆసపెట్టు āṣa-peṭṭu. To raise hopes or expectations, give hopes, tantalize. ఆశాబంధము āṣā-bandhamu. n. The bond of love or desire.

(p. 132) iṇḍu inḍu. [Tel.] v. plural imperative of ఇచ్చు. Give ye: ఇయ్యుడు or ఇయ్యండి.

(p. 141) illu or ఇలు illu. [Tel. The primitive. form is ఇల్ which means 'a house. ఆలయము (q. v.) borrowed by Skt. from Drav. means (1) house and (2) 'God's abode' or house cf. కోయిల or కోవెల. 'మన యింటి చేటు చూచితే.' నిర్వ. ix. ఇంటిగుట్టు a family secret. ఇంటికి దూరమైన ceremonially unclean, i.e., ఋతుమతి యైన In poems మరునిల్లు is the భగము. ఇల్లు నింపడము setting up a house, house-warming వధూవరుల నూతన గృహప్రవేశము.

(p. 144) īti īti. [Skt.] n. Plague, post, nuisance, evil. ఈతిభాధలు the (six) plagues, viz., excessive rain అతివ్పష్టి, drought or failure of rains అనావృష్టి, rats ఎలుకలు, parrots చిలుకలు, locusts మిడతలు, neighbouring kings చేరువరాజులు.

(p. 188) eddu eddu. [Tel.] n. A bullock, an ox; (plural ఎద్దులు, ఎడ్లు.) ఎద్దునాలుక Ox-tongue, a kind of plant, Phlouns or Bremma esculenta or Elephantopus scaber. దర్పకము. ఎద్దుపట్టు eddu-paṭṭu. v. a. To geld an ox ఎద్దుకు పిచ్చలుతీయు. ఎద్దుబలువు eddu-baluvu. n. A bullock load. ఎద్దుముట్టె eddu-muṭṭe. (from ముట్టె a nozzle) a sort of root. ఎద్దులవాడు or ఎడ్లవాడు eddulavāḍu. n. A bullock driver. ఎద్దువేట (R. ii. 29.) n. The use of a bullock as a screen for the huntsman, like a stalking horse.
