(p. 18) aṃsalamu amsalamu. [Skt.] adj. Robust, lusty. బలిసిన అంసలుడు amsaludu. n. He who is robust or lusty. బలిసినవాడు.

(p. 30) ajitamu a-jitamu. [Skt.] adj. Unconquered, invincible. అజితేంద్రియులు those whose lusts are unsubdued.

(p. 41) atirēkamu ati-rēkamu. [Skt.] n. Excess ఆధిక్యము. మొహాతిరేకము strong lust.

(p. 42) attamu attamu. [Tel.] n. A cluster or part of a bunch of plantains. అరిటిపండ్ల గుత్తి.

(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

(p. 113) āturata or ఆతురము āturata. [Skt.] n. Hurry, eagerness, affection. ఆతురచిత్తయై being afflicted. గర్భాతురము famishing hunger. క్షుధాతురడై famishing with hunger. కామాతురుడై eager with lust. ఆతురపడు ātura-paḍu. v. n. To hurry or haste. ఆతురుడు āturuḍu. n. He who is eager.

(p. 118) āmu āmu. [Tel.] n. Fatness, lust, desire. మదము. ఆము or ఆముకవియు āmu. v. a. To cover, spread over. మాదాళించు, నిండు. కళలామిన ముఖము a face bright with radiance. ఆముకొను āmu-konu. v. n. To increase. హెచ్చగు, పైకొను.

(p. 119) āyattamu āyattamu. [Skt.] n. Readiness, preparation. ఆయుత్తము adj. Ready. Inclined for; submitting to ఆధీనమైన. మోహాయత్తము given up to one's lusts. ఆయత్తపడు āyatta-paḍu. v. n. To be ready, to be prepared. ఆయత్తి āyatti. n. Subjection. లోకువ. Friendship. స్నేహము. Boundary. ఎల్ల. Day. దినము.

(p. 120) ārati ārati. [Tel.] n. An oblation or wave offering, an offering of lights or of water, turmeric and chunam waved over a deity or over any individual to take off the supposed ill effects of the evil looks. హారతి or మంగళహారతి. (This ceremony answers to lustration or sprinkling with holy water.)

(p. 127) āśa āṣa. [Skt.] n. Love, attachment, desire, wish, hope, passion, inclination, curiosity, avarice. ఆశాపాశము or ఆశాబంధము the chain of our lusts, fleshly ties. ఆశకొలుపు āsa-kolupu. v. t. To cause to desire, to allure, tempt, incite, encourage, to hold out prospects. ఆశపడు āṣa-paḍu. To desire, covet, long for. ఆశాపాతకుడు āṣā-pātakuḍu. n. A covetous man. ఆసపెట్టు āṣa-peṭṭu. To raise hopes or expectations, give hopes, tantalize. ఆశాబంధము āṣā-bandhamu. n. The bond of love or desire.

(p. 133) indriyamu indriyamu. [Skt.] n. An organ of sense. జ్ఞానేంద్రియములు organs of perception, కర్మేంద్రియములు organs of action, and అంతరింద్రియములు the internal organs, the first includes the eye, ear, nose, tongue, and skin; the second, the organ of speech, or larynx, hand, foot, and the organs of generation. The last are మనసు the mind or organ of thought; బుద్ధి the organ of apprehension, అహంకారము the organ of self-knowledge or consciousness, and చిత్తము the heart or organ of feeling. ఇంద్రియువృత్తి the natural propensities. పంచేంద్రియములు the five organs of sense. పంచేంద్రియబద్ధుడు the sensual man, one who is a slave to his lusts.

(p. 157) udāharaṇamu udāharaṇamu. [Skt.] n. An example, instance, or illustration of any rule or precept. ఉదాహరించు udāharinṭsu. v. a. To instance, mention. చెప్పు, దృష్టాంతముగా చెప్పు.

(p. 181) ekku ekku. [Tel.] v. a. & n. To rise, increase, swell. To appear (by its effects as wine, water, poison, or medicine.) To affect the mind. To prevail as a report; to come to notice వాని తలకు మదము ఎక్కినది he is beside himself with pride or lust. వానికి మత్తెక్కినది he is intoxicated. వడ్డియెక్కినది interest has accrued. ఎక్కినవడ్డి the interest that accrued. వాని దుష్టగుణములు నీకు ఎక్కినవి you have caught his bad habits, or, followed his example. వార్తకెక్కు to become the theme or topic of discourse. వన్నెకెక్కినాడు he became celebrated, rose to distinction. వాసికెక్కిన celebrated, honoured. ఎన్నికకెక్కినాడు one who has risen to reputation. పది గంటలపొద్దు ఎక్కిన వేళ when it was ten o'clock, lit. when the sun has mounted (to) ten hours. ఆ పనికి ఎవరును ఎక్కలేదు no one came forward, or volunteered for the business. అతని మాట యెక్కదు his word will not do, or avail. తలకు నీళ్లెక్కి ౛లుబుగానున్నది the water has got into the head and I have a cold. To mount on, get upon. మంచమెక్కు to take to one's bed. ఎక్కుకొను ekku-konu. v. a. To mount on ఆరోహించు.

(p. 186) ettu ettu. [Tel.] v. a. To take up, raise, lift up పైకెత్తు. To take, to remove. తీసికొను. To assume or take on oneself, to obtain or acquire (a name.) వహించు, పొందు. మంచి పేరెత్తు to acquire reputation. To cite, quote, mention, adduce, introduce a subject ప్రస్తావించు. మాటయెత్తు. To mention by name, advert to, allude to. To erect (a door or pillar.) To undertake. To raise or levy (an army.) అతడు జన్మమెత్తెను he assumed a mortal body, he was born. ఎత్తివ్రాయు to copy out or extract from a book. గొంతెత్తిచదువు to read aloud. భిక్షమెత్తు to take or receive alms. తళుకులెత్తు to assume lustre or become bright. నోరెత్తు to open the mouth, to speak నేను నోరెత్తలేదు I did not open my lips. గుత్తయెత్తినాడు he undertook the contract. దండెత్తు he raised troops. తూము ఎత్తించు to open a sluice. అలుగెత్తు to open an అలుగు (q. v.) లంగరు ఎత్తు to weigh anchor. పరుగెత్తు to take a run, to run. ఎత్తుకొనివచ్చు to fetch, to bring away. పిల్లను ఎత్తుకొను to take up a child. ఎత్తుకొనిపోవు to carry away or remove, to steal. తిరిపెమెత్తు to take alms, to beg. విరులెత్తు to sprout, to send forth shoots.

(p. 223) kañcukamu kanchukamu. [Skt.] n. A woman's waistcoat or jacket. A man's jacket, a piece of armour, a snake's skin. రవిక, కుబుసము, పాసుయొక్క కుబుసము, కవచము. కంచుకి kanchuki. n. A serpent. An attendant or guard over the women's apartments, an eunuch. పాము అంతఃపురపు కావలివాడు. Parij. ii. 44. R. i. 207. ii. 18. కంచుకిత kanchu-kita. adj. Armed, in armour విస్మయకంచుకితమనస్కుడై blinded by lust.
