(p. 859) baṇḍi banḍi. [Tel.] n. A cart, gig, carriage, coach, waggon, శకటము. A car, రథము. The four kinds of బండ్లు are గూడుబండి or చాపబండి a cart covered with a mat. పెట్టెబండి a palanquin coach, or a bullock coach. విల్లుబండి a carrriage on springs. కోచిబండి an English 'coach.' The piece of wood round which gold lace or cotton lace is rolled: so called because shaped like an axle between two wheels. బండికల్లు banḍi-kallu. n. The wheel of a carriage or cart. కల్లు, రథచక్రము. (కల్లు is a stone, as the wheels, were originally made of stone. Such are still seen in remote towns.) బండికల్లు రూపాయి or బండిరూపాయి banḍi-kallu-rūpāyi. n. A milled rupee: lit: one like a wheel. బండిగిల్లు banḍi-gillu. v. n. To suffer difficulties. కడగండ్లుపడు. బండిగురిగిం౛ or బండిగురువెంద banḍi-guriginḍza. n. The vine called Dalbergia volubilis. Rox. iii. 231. కాంభోజిలత. బండిమొగ్గరము banḍi-moggaramu. n. A certain military evolution called శకటవ్యూహము, which is shaped like a cart. బండిరిక్క banḍi-rikka. n. The star called రోహిణి. బండిరేఫ banḍi-rēpha. n. 'The great R.' The leter ర; which is so named from బండి a wheel. శపటరేఫ. (The Pandits have made fruitless efforts to introduce this obsolete letter into modern Telugu.) బండిరేవు banḍi-rēvu. n. A ford in a river where carts cross it. The great shore. బండిరొట్ట banḍi-roṭṭa. n. A sort of fodder.

(p. 884) binugu binugu. [Tel.] n. A sportsman or hunter. (an obsolete word) 'జివురుగండెలు గాలపుచివ్వలెదురు, లాదియగుసాధనంబులనలవరించు, కొనిహుటాహుటి నడలతో బినుగులెల్ల, గదిసినడిచిరియమ్మహీకాంతునరుత.' S. i. 187.

(p. 1059) r ra. [Tel. short for రమ్ము.] In addressing intimate friends or very low class persons, this is used as a suffix; thus, ఏమిర, ఎందుకుర, ఏమిరా, ఎందుకురా. In ancient Telugu, when it was under influence of the Kanarese literature the letter ఱ was used, but it is now obsolete. It is called శకటరేఫము, అలఘురేఫము or బండి 'ర' while the ర is called మంచి 'ర' or లఘురేఫము. The ర is never used in Sanskrit words. It is said to have been pronounced hard, and to have had the force of two ర sounds; so that in ఱ్ఱ there are supposed to be four R sounds included, which is absurd on the face of it. According to the ancient spelling తరచు means to churn, తఱుచు thick. పెర is a bee hive, పెర other, strange.పెరుగు is curd, పెరుగు to curd, పెఱుగు to grow. వేరు means a root, వేఱు different. మరుగు means to hide, మఱుగు too boil. In modern Telugu the ఱ is unknown and thus both sets of words are splet alike. The ancient poets distinguished these sounds, never allowing ర to rhyme with ఱ. Modern Telugu poets such as the translator of the Bhagavata disregard this distinction. In recent years attempts have been made to revive the use of this obsolete letter, but without success.

(p. 1241) śakaṭamu ṣakaṭamu. [Skt.] n. A cart, or carriage. The bishop at chess. బండి, చదరంగములో ఒంటె అనేకాయ. శకటవ్యూహము the 'cart-evolution,' i.e., troops arranged in the form of a cart. Thus the yoke AB is the covering line of skirmishers. CD (the pegs) flanks of the same. E (the pole) the line of communication with F the coloumn; of which HH, the wheels, are cavalry covering the flanks. శకటరేఫ ṣakaṭa-rēpha. n. The name given to the obsolete letter ఱ (R,) also called బండిరేఫ, as its shape is compared to that of 'a cart.'

A female companion or attendant. స్నేహితురాలు, చెలియ. A wife. భార్య. సహచరుడు saha-charuḍu. n. An attendant, companion, follower, compeer, mate. కూడ తిరుగువాడు, స్నేహితుడు. సహజ saha-ja. n. A sister. తోడబుట్టువు. సహజము saha-jamu. adj. Lit. Born with. Innate, inherent, natural, proper, true. స్వభావము, కూడబుట్టిన. సహజరేఫ the 'common' ర as distinguished from the obsolete ఱ. n.
