(p. 200) ēraṇḍamu ēraṇḍamu. [Skt.] n. The castor oil plant (proverbially weak or pithless 'నిరస్తపాదపేగ్రామే ఏరండోపిద్రుమాయతే' (proverb) in a barren spot any shrub is called a tree.

(p. 348) gaṇḍu ganḍu. [Tel.] n. Bravery. పౌరుషము. strength బలము. adj. Brave, heroic, great, large, stout. Male. మగ. గండుమూతి a grim face. గండీగ a large fly. గండుచీమ the large black ant. గండుచేప the carp which is proverbial for vigour and activity. గండుమీనుల వంటి వీక్షణములు eyes that glance bright like dolphins గండుపిల్లి a tom cat. పిల్లికూనగండాయెను the young kitten turned into a tom cat. గండు among tradesmen is a cant word for వరహా a pagoda. Thus in arithmetic గ1 is one pagoda; గగ one thousand pagodas. గండడగు ganḍaḍagu. [గండు+అడగు.] v. n. To lose heart or courage పరాక్రమహీనుడగు. (హరి. ఉ. ii.) To die చచ్చు. (Vasu. iv.) గండాడు ganḍāḍu. [గండు+ఆడు.] v. n. To have sexual intercourse. రమించు. గండుకరణము ganḍ-karaṇamu. n. The bird called the Green Barbet. Thereiceryx Zeylonicus (F.B.I.) (Jerdon's Catal. No. 217.) గండుడు ganḍuḍu. [Skt.] n. A courageous man, a hero. శూరుడు.

(p. 362) gāndhāramu gāndhāramu. [Skt.] n. A certain note in music. The Candahar country. గాంధారి gāndhāri. n. The mother of Duryōdhana, proverbially, a bold pert woman. గాంధారి కథలు gāndhāri-kathalu. n. A kind of ballads or ditties.

(p. 407) calamu chalamu. [Skt.] adj. Trembling, tremulous, unsteady. వణకుగల. చలచిత్తము n. chala-chittamu. A freak, a whim; eccentricity. చలచిత్తుడు chala-chittuḍu. n. An imbecile, cracked, silly, insane or eccentric man. చలచ్చంచువు chalach-chanchuvu. n. The Greek partridge చకోరపక్షి. చలదళము chala-daḷamu. n. The Indian fig free (అశ్వత్థము) because its leaves like those of the aspen are proverbially tremulous. Suca. iii. 517.

(p. 497) taṅgēḍu or తంగెడు tangēḍu. [Tel.] n. The Tanner's Cassia. Cassia auriculata. నేలతంగేడు Ground Cassia or Senna, Cassia angustifolia. అడివితంగేడు the wild species used in tanning. పయిడితంగేడు the yellow flowering species, Cassia sophora. See కసింద (Watts). సీమతంగేడు the flower called Peacock's Pride, Cassia Sophera. తంగేటిజున్ను wild honey, a proverbial expression denoting the seeking of grapes from thorns, or milk from a stone (R. i. 127 and iv. 158). తంగేడుగోరింక tangēḍu-gōrinka. n. The Pied Crested Cuckoo, Coccystes jacobimes. (F.B.I.)

(p. 605) dūrvāsuḍu dūrvāsuḍu. [Skt.] n. The name of a Rishi or demigod proverbial for a fierce disposition. దూర్వాసప్రకృతి a violent temper.

(p. 672) nuvvu or నువు nuvvu. [Tel.] n. Sesamum; a crop of sesamum. నువ్వుచేను. నువ్వులు sesamum seeds, తిలలు. నువ్వుపువ్వు nuvvu-puvvu. n. The delicate blossom of sesamum: it is proverbially delicate, and to it the poets compare a beautiful nose. నువ్వెత్తు or ఉవ్వెత్తు nuvv-ettu. n. Something extremely minute, that which is not worth reckoning. Lit: as much as a sesamum seed, నువ్వుగింజయెత్తు. నువ్వెత్తుగాగ very little, తూలాయమానముగా. నువ్వెత్తుగొను to become little or nothing, తూలాయమానమగు. 'ఒక్క మాత్రలోన నువ్వెత్తుగొనరె, దుర్యోధనాదిశతము.' M. V. i. 30. నువ్వులెల్లా నువ్వులయినవి (proverb) the laughter is turned into grief. నూబిండి or నువ్వులపిండి nū-binḍi. n. Flour of sesamum.

(p. 745) pālāśamu pālāṣamu. [Skt. from పలాశ.] adj. Belonging to the tree called పలాశము, i.e., the Butea frondosa (మోదుగు,) the leaves of which are proverbial for brightness of deep green, and the flowers for a scarlet hue. Green. పాలాశకుసమవర్ణము red colour.

(p. 895) būraga , బూరుగ, బూరుగు or బూరువు būraga. [Tel.] n. The silk cotton tree. Bombax heptaphylla, Rox. iii. 167. శాల్మలి. Its wood is like the poplar or sallow proverbially large and useless. వాడు వట్టి బూరగమాను he is a mere log, he is a stupid booby. One species is called కుక్కబూరగ; another is దుంకిబూరగచెట్టు. Briedelia scandens Rox. iii. 737. బూరగదూది the cotton found in these pods, which steeped in nitre, is used for tinder. ముండ్లబూరగమాను. Bombax malabaricum (Wight, plate 297 and Watts.) బూరుగు దీవి the name of an island, శాల్మలద్వీపము.

(p. 952) maniṣi manishi. [for Skt. మనుష్యుడు.] n. A man or woman, a person. వానికి రూకలకట్టూ లేదు మనిషికట్టూలేదు he has neither money nor men. మనిషిరాక మాకుకావచ్చును a proverbial expression, meaning, all men are subject to disease. మనిషికి ఒక రూపాయి యిచ్చినాడు he gave each man a rupee. మనిషికొక మాటచెప్పినారు each man gave a different opinion. మనిషికొకమాట చెప్పుతాడు he talks differently to different people. ఒక ఆడుమనిషి a woman. ఆమె లావాటిమనిషి she is a stout person. నీవేమిమనిషివి what a strange man you are! మనిషివా, పశువువా? are you a man or a brute? do you call yourself a man? నా మనిషివి పంపుతాను I will send my man. ఆ దేశపుమనుషులు people of that country.

(p. 1005) munaga munaga. [Tel.] n. A plant resembling the horse radish, Hyperanthera moringa. శిగ్రువు. [Ainslie.] కారుమునగ a wild species of the same. The munaga is proverbially weak and brittle. నేను పట్టినది మునగకొమ్మకాదు చింతకొమ్మ what I rely on is a tamarind branch, i.e., is no broken reed.

(p. 1076) rāvi or రాగి rāvi. [Tel.] n. The Poplar leaved Fig tree, Ficus religiosa, అశ్వత్థము, పిప్పలము. రావి ఆకురీతిగా వణికినది she trembled like an aspen leaf, the leaves of the fig tree being proverbial for quivering. గంగరావి the Portria tree, Hibiscus populncus, బ్రహ్మదారువుచెట్టు.

(p. 1249) śālmali ṣālmali. [Skt.] n. The silk-cotton tree, which) like the Sallow) is proverbially big and worthless. బూరుగుచెట్టు. A mere braggart. Also, the name of an island. ఒకద్వీపము.
