(p. 204) airāvaṇamu or ఐరావతము airāvaṇamu. [Skt.] n. The name of the elephant on which Indra rides. ఐరావతి airāvati, n. The bolt of Indra. Lightning: forked lightning మెరుపు, కోలమెరుపు, విద్యుత్.

(p. 1059) r ra. [Tel.] n. The letter R, called రేఫ repha, or రకారము ra-kāramu. When it is a subjunct letter, it is written underneath and shaped, thus, ్ర or L, and is called krāvaṭi క్రావడి or క్రారవడి krāravaṭi; thus, కర్ర karra, వక రము rakramu. In many Telugu words this r is used optionally after the initial, as in మాను, పక్క, కింద, తోవ, సుక్కు which are, in bookish Telugu, written మ్రాను ప్రక్క.క్రింద. త్రోవ. స్రుక్కు respectively. The letter ర is sometimes inserted to prevent elision, as పొదరిల్లు, గంగిరెద్దు, బొమ్మరిల్లు, ఉస్సురనుచు. ర in prosody, stands, for రగణము, a foot composed of a short between two long syllables.

(p. 1076) rāvaṇuḍu rāvaṇuḍu. [Skt. literally, he who afficts or injures.] n. Rāvaṇa, the Asura lord, the sovereign of Lanka, or Ceylon, లంకేశ్వరుడు. A very cruel man హింసకుడు. A learned fool, తెలిసిన మూఢుడు. 'దైవతయులారత్రిజగద్రావణు రావణుని దాశరధినైద్రుంతున్.' R. iii. 69. రావణుని కోట a labyrinth, a great puzzle. రావణహస్తము rāvaṇa-hastamu. n. A kind of fiddle. వీణాభేదము. 'కాహళల్ డోళ్లుశంఖములు రావణహస్తములు డిండిమంబులు మురళికలును.' Balrama. v. 24.

(p. 1261) śrāvaṇamu ṣrāvaṇamu. [Tel. for స్రావణము.] n. The pincers or nippers used by goldsmiths. కంసలవాని ఆయుధములలో నొకటి.

(p. 1261) śrāvaṇamu or శ్రావణమాసము ṣrāva-ṇamu. [Skt.] n. The fifth lunar month. అయిదవనెల. శ్రావణాలపౌర్ణిమ ṣrāvaṇāla-paurṇima. n. The full moon in the month of Sravana, (July - August.) This is among Hindus the great day of atonement. Certain ceremonies if duly performed on this day are supposed to procure pardon for all the sins of the past year. ఉపాకర్మము. శ్రావణి ṣrāvani. n. A plant called Sphœranthus indicus, బోడతరపుచెట్టు called in Tamil కొట్టైక్కరందై.
