(p. 21) akṣatalu akshatalu. [Skt.] vulgarly అక్షింతలు n.plu. (lit. unbroken grains.) Grains of raw rice, made yellow with saffron. The red mark worn by some Hindus on the forehead formed of saffron and slaked lime. పసుపురాచిన బియ్యము, పేలాలు. నొసటను పెట్టుకోవడమునకై పసుపు సున్నము కలిపిన బొట్టు.

(p. 254) karpari karpari. [Skt.] n. A kind of collyrium prepared from saffron. మ్రాని పసుపునందు పండిన అంజన విశేషము.

(p. 304) kūra kūra. [Tel.] n. A herb, herbs, vegetables, garden stuff. A mess of food, curry even including flesh. ఆకుకూరలు salads or leafy vegetables. కాయగూరలు or కూరగాయలు herbs that bear a fruit or pod, such as beans, peas, brinjals, melons &c. కూరనార herbs and so forth. కూరపనువు saffron which is added to curries కూరాకుపురుగు the canker worm that destroys herbs.

(p. 425) ceṅgāvi chen-gāvi. [Tel. చెన్ను+కావి.] n. A reddish tint; saffron colour జాఫరా.

(p. 589) dāruvu dāruvu. [Skt.] n. Wood. మ్రాను. adj. Wooden, made of wood. దేవదారువు dēra-dāruru. n. Deodar, dealwood. దారుభూతము dāru-bhūtamu. adj. Ligneous, woody, turned into wood. దారుయంత్రము dāru-yantramu. n. A wooden engine or machine. దారుహరిద్ర or దార్వి lit: wood saffron, మ్రానిపసుపు. దార్వాఘాటము darvā-ghāṭamu. n. The woodpecker. వడ్రంగిపిట్ట.

(p. 694) pacca paṭsṭsa. [Tel.] n. Lit: Leaf colour. Green, yellowish green, yellow colour, (a leaf being first green, then fading into yellow.) An emerald, మరకతము. Any figure punctured or tattooed into the skin, because it is coloured green. A green plant or tree. cf. 'పైరుపచ్చ' adj. Green, yellow, sallow. (The word పచ్చ radically means Bright, fair-coloured.) పచ్చ పొడుచుకొను to tattoo the skin. ఆకుపచ్చ or హరిదళపచ్చ yellow. కలంకారిపచ్చలు a sort of cloth, or painted chintz. See on పచ్చి. Various shades of green are called కప్పుపచ్చ a still lighter tint, రాతిపచ్చ emerald green, చిలకపచ్చ bright green, మక్కిపచ్చి dirty dark green. వాని కండ్లు పచ్చపారినవి he has the jaundice. వారు ఇప్పుడు పచ్చగానున్నారు they are now in prosperous circumstances. కాపు పచ్చగా నుంటే రాజు చూడలేడు the king cannot bear to see a thriving farmer. పచ్చనరాలు the blue veins. పచ్చగువ్వ a bright yellow green bird; the green pigeon. పచ్చపైకము a good coin. HD. ii. 153. పచ్చకట్లపాము a green snake. పచ్చకన్నులమెకము paṭsṭsakannula-mekamu. n. Lit: The yellow eyed beast, i.e., a lion, హర్యక్షము. పచ్చకర్పూరము paṭsṭsa-karpūramu. n,. Green coloured camphor: crude camphor. This is the name of a brilliant white drug, used to curve the eye, which real camphor injures. It is not in lumps but is a powder. పచ్చకామెరలు paṭsṭsa-kāmerulu. n. Jaundice. పచ్చజిట్ట paṭsṭsa-jiṭṭa. n. The common Iora (a small green and yellow bird.) Ӕgithina tiphia. (F.B.I.) పచ్చజీనువాయి paṭsṭsajīnu-vāyi. n. The Red-headed Bunting, Emberiza luteola. (F.B.I.) పచ్చన or పచ్చదనము. paṭsṭsana. n. Greenness or yellowness. పచ్చని paṭsṭsani. adj. Green, yellow. పచ్చబంగారు yellow or pure gold. పచ్చగానున్న yellow or golden: prosperous, fortunate. పచ్చబ్రాలు paṭsṭsa-brālu. n. Yellow rice, i.e., rice coated with saffron and used to sprinkle over persons on auspicious occasions. పచ్చరెక్క poṭsṭsa-rekka. n. The Indian Bee-eater, Merops viridis. పెద్దపచ్చరెక్క or కొమ్మపచ్చరెక్క pedda-paṭsṭsa-rekka. n. The blue tailed Bee-eater. Meropus philippensis. (F.B.I.) పచ్చవలువదారి paṭsṭsa-valuva-dāri. n. Lit: One who wears a yellow cloth, i.e., Vishṇu, పీతాంబరుడు. పచ్చవారుపవు౛ోదు or పచ్చవార ్వపు౛ోడు paṭsṭsa-vāruvupuḍzōdu. n. Lit: One who rides on a green animal, i.e., the sun or Manmadha. హరిదశ్వుడు, శుకవాహుడు. పచ్చవిలుతుడు. పచ్చవిల్తుడు or పచ్చవిలుకాడు paṭsṭsa-vilutuḍu. n. Lit: The green bow-man, i.e., Manmadha, whose bow is green, being made of a sugar cane. పచ్చారె చెట్టు paṭsṭs-āre-cheṭṭu. [పచ్చ+ఆరెచెట్టు.] n. A large forest tree with a very fragrant flower, Banhenia spicata.

(p. 731) pasupu or పసపు pasupu. [Tel.] n. Indian saffron or turmeric. Curcuma longa. Rox. i. 32. హరిద్ర. కూరపసుపు turmeric used as a spice. అడవిపసుపు the wild species. Rox. i. 23. చాయపసుపు the species used as a yellow dye. నీలిపసుపు another species, Cūrcuma cœsia, Rox. i. 26. మానుపుసుపు (or కుసంభల.) Safflower, Carthamus tinctorius. W. పసుపుటాకులు turmeric leaves. పసుపాడు to use turmeric (by smearing it over the body), that is, to bathe. A. i. 63. and v. 41. ఎండపసపు or పసుపెండ golden sunshine. అనగా నీరెండచేత గలిగిన పసిమి. A. vi. 75. ఆమె పసుపుకుంకుమ యెన్నటికిని పోదు lit: She will never lose her turmeric and red paint, i.e., she will never become a window. పసుపుకుంకుమ a phrase for pin money, or dower, because it is money given to a bride, nominally to supply her with yellow and red paint for the forehead. పసుపు కుంకుమముపుచ్చుకొను to ratify a marriage by accepting these on behalf of the bride. పసుపు చాయ pasupu-ṭsāya. n. Yellow colour. పసుపుపిట్ట or పసుపుముద్ద n. Lit. The saffron bird. The Baya, or Weaver bird, Ploceus baya. (F.B.I.) గిజిగాడు.

(p. 742) pārāṇi pārāṇi. [Tel.] n. Turmeric mixed with chunam smeared by women on their feet at a wedding. Decorating the feet with saffron powder, &c. Red dye applied by women to the instep. పాదముల యందు కుంకుమాద్య లంకరణము. పారాణించు pārāṇinṭsu. v. a. To decorate the feet by reddening the instep.

(p. 1052) yakṣuḍu yakshuḍu. [Skt.] n. A demigod. దేవయోనివిశేషము, కుబేరాదియక్షజాతుడు. Kubēra, కుబేరుడు. యక్షకర్దమము yaksha-kardamamu. n. A perfume made of powdered sandalwood mixed with camphor, agallochum, musk, and saffron in various proportions. పరిమళద్రవ్యములు కలిపినచందనము. యక్షగానము yaksha-gānamu. n. A melody, a chant. Poetry written rather to suit an air than according to the strict rules of prosody. There are several poems written in this style as the సీతాకల్యాణము, ఉషాపరిణయము, గడుడాచలము, &c. యక్షాక్షి yaksh-ākshi. n. A thorny plant. Guilandina bonducella. శూకజంబుకాయాం, గచ్చ. యక్షిణి yakshini.n. An art by which events that have happened elsewhere are revealed, గతించిన వృత్తాంతమును తెలిపే ఒకవిద్య. A female fiend attached to the service of Durga, and frequently maintaining (like a sylph or fairy) intercourse with mortals. యక్షిణిపంపు bewitching, sorcery. మాంత్రికుడు పంపిన పనులు చేసే దయ్యము.
