(p. 68) abvābu abvābu. [H.] n. (Lit. Doors, chapters.) Miscellaneous revenue accounts. 'The usual heads in Revenue accounts are Mal and Abwab. The Mal or Regular revenue is collected on land and customs, including taxes on liquors, &c The Abwab, or Miscellaneous includes the difference of exchange (often considerable) between that of the market and the fixed rate at which the revenue of the district is paid, casual aid or support of the Government officers, fees to the shroff, and contributions to various feasts.' (p. 83) argaḷamu argaḷamu. [Skt.] n. A round wooden bar or bolt for a door. గడియమాను. (Metaphorically) an impediment, hindrance, restraint. విఘ్నము, అభ్యంతరము. అనర్గళముగా irresistibly. వాని అధికారము అవర్గళముగా జరుగుచున్నది his authority is unrestricted.

(p. 129) āsēdhamu āsēdhamu. [Skt.] n. Check, restraint. అడ్డగింత. Arrest: legal restraint; limitation of four kinds, viz.: కాలాసేధము limitation of time, స్ధానాసేధము confinement to a place, ప్రవాసాసేధము prohibition against removal or departure, కర్మాసేధము restriction from employment.

(p. 206) okka okka. [Tel. The emphatic form of ఒక cf. Eng. a and one] adj. One. ఒక్కుమ్మడిని (ఒక్క ఉమ్మడిని) all at once, in one rush. ఒక్కపొద్దు A 'single meal,' i.e., a religious fast: restriction to one meal a day. నిన్న ఒక్కపొద్దు ఉంటిని I ate but once yesterday. ఒక్కెడ (ఒక్క+ఎడ) occasionally, at times.

(p. 232) kaṭṭu kaṭṭu. [Tel.] n. A tie, bond, band. A bandage, a knot బంధము, ముడి. A rule, regulation, law. నిబంధనము, నిర్బంధము. A tax or duty. Fascination,. వాకట్టు striking dumb. Soil, place ప్రదేశము. ఇసుకకట్టు sandy soil. System, fashion, mode or plot, device. కట్టుగా మాట్లాడు to speak by rule or consistently. A strike. వారు కట్టుకట్టినారు they struck work. Form, shape. Prohibition, restriction, a charm, an enchantment. మితి. A streak. నూనూగు మీసకట్టు the line of his budding whiskers. The hoop or band of a bucket, the tire of a wheel. The water in which any kind of pulse is boiled except rice. ఉలవకట్టు boilings of horse gram. Season, weather. part of the year. ఋతువు. శీతకట్టు the cold season. A forged coin. సీసకట్టు రూపాయి a leaden rupee. వెండికట్టు a silvered coin. జాతికట్టు the tie of kindred, the custom of the caste. మంత్రకట్టు fascination, charming by spells. మడికట్టు a waistband or girdle, నీరుకట్టు a stoppage of urine. వలకట్టు a weir in a river, posts to fasten a net to ఈ యింటిలో ముందరికట్టు పెద్దది వెనకటికట్టు చిన్నది the front of this house is larger than the back rooms.

(p. 237) katti katti. [Tel.] n. A knife. A sword. తీసినకత్తితీరు బిత్తలియై నిలిచినది she stood as a drawn sword. A measure of land, which differs in various districts. It is considered to be as much as a man can reap in one day. In the Government accounts a 'cutty' is rated at 40 acres and 14 గుంటలు (q. v.) This phrase, which means a 'sword of land' implies that this quantity of land was assigned to a family which furnished the feudal lord one fighting man. కత్తికట్టేదొర katti-kaṭṭē-dora. An officer, a gentleman who wears a sword. కత్తికాసు katti-kāsu. n. A carpenter's tool for squaring. కత్తిపిట్టి katti-piṭṭa. The Cuckoo called Hierococcyx varius. చిన్న కత్తిపిట్ట The Indian plaintive cuckoo, Cacomantis passcrinus. (F.B.I.) కత్తిపిడిక a basket in which a toddy drawer keeps his knives ఈండ్రవాని కత్తుల బుట్ట. కత్తిపీట katti-pīṭa. n. A large knife standing slantwise in a block of wood upon which vegetables are sliced. కత్తిబళ్లెము katti ballemu. A 'sword spear,' a scythe-like blade mounted as a spear.

(p. 264) kanubā or కస్బా kasubā. [H.] n. The head station in a district.

(p. 250) karaṇamu karaṇamu. [Skt.] n. A village clerk, a writer, an accountant. వాడు కూత కరణముగాని వ్రాతకరణముకాడు he has talents for speaking but not for writing. స్థలకరణము the registrar of a district. కరణము n. Instrument, means. కొరముట్టు. An organ of sense. ఇంద్రియము. Marking or causing, as in ప్రియంకరణము endearing. స్థూలంకరణము fattening, శుభగంకరణము fortunate. కరణచతుష్టయము the mind, intellect, volition and self-consciousness. మనోబుద్ధిచిత్తాహంకారములు. కరణత్రయము thought, word and deed. మనస్సు. వాక్కు, కర్మము. త్రికరణశుద్ధిగా completely, absolutely, entirely. కరణీయము karaṇīyamu. adj. Fit to be performed, worthy to be done చేయదగిన. కరణికము or కరణీకము karanikamu. Clerkship: the office of a Karanam or clerk.

(p. 259) kalekṭaru kalecṭaru [Eng.] n. A collector, the chief revenue official in a District.

(p. 1400) kalekṭaru kalekṭaru. [Eng. ' collector. '] n. A collector, the magistrate in charge of a district or of its sub-division.

(p. 1400) kasbā kasbā. [H.] n. The principal or large town in a district or division of country.

(p. 291) kuccela kuchchela. [Tel.] n. (plu. కుచ్చెలలు or కుచ్చెళ్లు.) A rick of corn. A heap of cut corn. జొన్నలలోనగువానికుప్ప. a land measure which in Guntur district is twenty nine acres or (33 3/16) thirty three gunṭas (see గుంట) and three sixteenths. One కుచ్చెల is nearly the same as a కత్తి of land, and is equal to eight గొర్రులు or 400 కుంటలు. The land that produces one stack of corn; it varies in various districts, and the above stated quantity is that fixed in the government rates. కుచ్చెళ్లువేయు to lay corn in ricks. కుచ్చెళ్లు See కుచ్చె. కుచ్చెలగంత or కుచ్చెల బొంత a bag of corn.
