(p. 221) aupāsanamu aupāsanamu. [Skt. from ఉపాసనము.] n. The worship of fire enjoined on a married Brahmin every morning గృహస్థుడగు బ్రాహ్మణుడు ప్రాతఃకాలమందు చేయవలసిన అగ్ని యుపాసన. In a comic sense, smoking tobacco.

(p. 274) kāramu kāramu. [Tel.] n. Pungency, hotness of taste: sauce. Salt earth used in bleaching cloth చవుడు. Tinder: being cloth dipped in saltpetre. A caudle for infants. Caustic, lunar caustic. కారము చచ్చినపొగాకు tobacco devoid of flavour. కారము చచ్చినసున్నము lime devoid of heat. కారముగలసున్నము sharp lime. adj. Pungent, hot to the taste. A particle added to a letter in naming it. Thus కకారము the letter K. An affix denoting, making or doing, thus: ఝణఝణత్కారము resounding, making a ringing sound.

(p. 363) gāṭu gāṭu. [Tel.] n. The beazle of a ring: the notch to hold the stone. Strength. virulence, potency of poison, or of liquor. Pungency, acridity, as of pepper. గాటు పోగాకు strong tobacco.

(p. 382) gulla gulla. [Tel.] n. A shell: a husk: a cowry shell. కప్పచిప్ప. A white pustule బొబ్బ. Anything hollow బోలు. Cotton in the pod. The hull of ship. (Vizag.) గుల్లకాసు a farthing: (lit. a shell) or a penny. గుల్లసున్నము shell lime. చింతగుల్ల tamarinds in the shell or husk. గుల్లాగుట్ర trash, rubbish, gewgaws. adj. Hollow, empty. బోలు. గుల్లకర్ర a tube. ఇల్లు గుల్లచేసినాడు or తుడిచిపెట్టినాడు he emptied or plundered the house. గుల్లపుటిక a small basket. గుల్లపొగాకు tobacco that is immature and worthless, గుల్లపడు to be disgraced అవమానపడు. గుల్లపరుచు to empty, to scorn, to disgrace. HD. ii. 168. గుల్లకాడు an empty handed man ఏమిన్ని లేనివాడు.

(p. 401) ghāṭu or గాటు ghāṭu. [Tel.] n. Strength, virulence, potency of poison or of liquor. Pungency, acridity, as of pepper. ఘాటు పొగాకు strong tobacco. ఘాటించు ghātinṭsu. v. n. To be violent.

(p. 567) tōraṇamu or తోరణ tōraṇamu. [Skt.] n. A wreath, a garland, a festoon of leaves, &c., hung over a doorway or across a road, &c. A gate. ద్వారము. A pack or tobacco weighing from two to ten seers. మాంసపు తోరణములు strings of mutton chops hung across the room. జ్వాలా తోరణము a bonfire. తోరణపట్టె tāraṇ-paṭṭe. n. The cross bar of a winch. (కపిల.)

(p. 628) naga naga. [Tel.] n. A jewel or ornament. భూషణము. Cattle in general. A metal vessel. లోహపాత్రము. A bullock load of tobacco, &c. that is, two sackfuls. పొగాకు దూది మొదలగువాని కంట్లపుమాట. A pair of leathern vessels, సిద్దెల౛ోడు. A man's load: a cooly load. A robe or long gown. (In house building) బండినగలు are the small rafters laid across the గుంజకర్రలు.

(p. 706) padunu or పదను padunu. [Tel. పది+ఉను.] n. Time, season, సమయము. Temper, sharpness, whetting, వాడి. Moisture, తడి. Goodness of metal. The right degree of softness (in boiled areca nut, &c.) పరిపాకము. ఆ కత్తికి పదును రాలేదు that knife is not properly tempered. దున్నడమునకు ఆ నేల పదునుగా నుండలేదు the ground is not sufficiently moist for ploughing. ఉక్కును కాచడములో పదును తప్పినది he failed in giving the right temper to the steel. 'పదునైనబలువాడిమెరుగువాలు.' HK. iv. 193. పదనుకొను padanu-konu. v. n. To become wet or moist, తడియు. 'సానబట్టిన రాపొడిచల్లి మెదపి. పదనునుధనిడిచేసెనోపద్మభవుడు.' Swa. ii. 40. టీ పదను, చేతితడి. పదను పెట్టేరాయి a bone or whetstone. ఒకపదునువాన one moistening of rain, i.e., so much rain as renders the earth fit for ploughing. One పదను or wetting sinks into the ground about the depth of a plough share: equivalent to 'one inch of rain.' పదునుచేయు to moisten. పొగాకుపదునుచేయు to prepare or cure tobacco in a particular way. పదునుపెట్టు to set or sharpen.

(p. 710) payara , పయ్యర or పైర payara. [Tel.] n. A zephyr, a cool wind, చల్లగాలి. A south wind, దక్షిణపుగాలి. పయరపంట is a term for those crops which are grown in the season when this breeze prevails. దక్షిణపుగాలిచేత పండేకందులు పెసలు మినుములు మొదలైనవాటి పంట. పయరపొగాకు early tobacco, that which is grown in spring.

(p. 803) poga or పొప poga. [Tel.]n. Smoke, steam, vapour. ధూమము. 'ఊరుపుపొగల్' the vapour of sighs. Vasu. iv. 10. పొగతాగు to smoke a pipe or cheroot. 'అగరు సాంబ్రాణిపొగలుపట్టి' Ila. i. 140. టీ ధూప మిచ్చి. పొగకన్ను poga-kannu. n. Siva's eye from which fire issued. పొగకర్ర poga-karra. n. A sunbeam. Lit: a stick of smoke, because a beam has that appearance if it falls amid smoke. పొగగూడు poga-gūḍu. n. A chimney. పొగచు, పొగుచు or పొగయించు pogaṭsu. To cause to smoke, పొగయజేయు. To fry, to season with spices. ఇగురబెట్టు, తిరుగబోతబెట్టు, సాతాళించు. 'కలమాన్నము నొల్చిన పప్పునాలుగే న్పొగిచినకూరలున్.' A. i. 39. టీ పొగచినకూరలున్, ఇగురుకూరలును. పొగచుట్ట poga-ṭsūṭṭa. n. A cheroot or cigar. పొగకుంట a tobacco field. పొగాకువేసిన కుంట నేల. పొగచూరు poga-ṭsūru. v. n. To be smoked, పొగపట్టు, పొగవాసన కలిగియుండు. పొగచెట్టు or పొగాకుచెట్టు poga-cheṭṭu. n. The tobacco plant. కారుపొగాకు very strong and black tobacco. పొగపు pogapu. To cause to be fried or seasoned, సాతాళించు. పొగపు orపోపు n. Seasoning, spicery. తిరుగబోత. తాలింపు. పొగబాణము poga-bāṇamu. n. A smoke rocket, i.e., a bomb-shell, ధూమము కమ్ముకొనేటట్టుచేయు ఆకాశబాణము. 'పొగబాణములగముల్ నిగిడింపగ్రమ్మెడు, ధూమంపుపెనుమొగుల్ తొంగలింప.' Bobbili. iii. 137. పొగయు or పొవయు pogayu. v. n. To smoke or emit smoke, పొగలేచు. To be smoked, పొగగలదియగు. To be passed through smoke. To burn slowly. కుములు.

(p. 909) bommiḍamu or బొమ్మిడాయిచేప bommiḍamu. [Tel.] n. The great loach, or tobaccopipe fish, which has a very long head and a body like an eel.

(p. 935) maṇḍe or మండియ manḍe. [Tel.] A stock or heap of the unthrashed ears of the great millet, or of cut tobacco. జొన్న కుచ్చెలను దించి కంకికోసి ప్రోగువేసి ఆరవేసిన పొగాకుకుప్ప.
