(p. 21) akṣaramu aksharamu. [Skt. lit Eternal. imperishable.] n. A letter, a single syllable, a character of the alphabet, hand writing. A single syllable, whether of one letter or more. Thus the word సంస్కృతం Sam-skru-tam is termed a word of three letters. ఏకాక్షరము a monosyllable. సంయుక్తాక్షరము two or more letters united in one syllable, as స్త్రీ wherein four letters are united. త్య్రక్షరి try-ak-shari; the sacred or mystic syllable (ఓం AUM, or O'M a name of the Deity) that contains three letters. అక్షరజ్ఞుడు a man of letters. అక్షరాభ్యాసము beginning to learn the alphabet or the first principles of a language; మంత్రాక్షరము a cypher of syllable used in magic. ఇది ఆయన అక్షరము కాదు this is not his handwriting. నీవద్ద అప్పుగా తీసుకొన్న రూ 300 అక్షరాల మున్నూరు రూపాయీలు i.e., 'Rs. 300 (three hundred Rupees.)' here the same sum is denoted in writing as well as in figures. వాడు నిరక్షరకుక్షి he is an illiterate man. వానికి నోట్లో అక్షరాలు లేచియున్నవి his mouth is inflammed. అక్షరవిన్యాసము, the array of letters, writing.

(p. 52) anityamu a-nityamu. [Skt.] adj. Temporary, not permanent. అస్థిరమైన. అనిత్యత్వము state of not being permanent; transient character of a thing.

(p. 58) anusvāramu anu-svāramu. [Skt.] n. The name of the letter (O) the nasal character. సున్న, బిందువు.

(p. 58) anūkamu anūkamu. [Skt.] n. Race, family; peculiarity of race, character. అన్వయము, శీలము.

(p. 60) anvarthamu an-v-arthamu. [Skt.] adj. Descriptive, expressing the properties or attributes. సార్థకమైన. అన్వర్థనామము a name which suits one's character. అన్వర్థ సంజ్ఞ a significant term, a term whose meaning is intelligible in itself.

(p. 106) ākarṣamu ākarshamu. [Skt.] n. Pulling, hauling: attracting, drawing. ఈడ్వడము. ఆకర్షకము ā-karshakamu n. That which attracts, a magnet. ఆకర్షణము ākarshaṇamu n. The act of drawing, or attracting. ఆకర్షణ మంత్రము a magic spell that has power to draw or attract, putting an enemy in our power. ఆకర్షణశక్తి n. The power of attraction or gravity. ఆకర్షించు ākarshinṭsu. To attract. ఆకర్షితము ā-karshitamu. adj. That which is attracted. ఆకర్షింపబడినది.

(p. 124) ālāgu ā-lagu. [Tel. ఆ+లాగు] n. That way ఆలా āla. [Tel. ఆ+లాగు] adv. So, thus. (contracted from అలాగున). ఆలాగంటి ā-lāgaṇṭi. [Tel. ఆ+లాగు] adj. Such ఆలాగు, ఆలాగున, అలాగే, ālāgu. adv. Thus; so in that manner. ఆలాటి ālāṭi. adj. Such: like that.

(p. 131) iṅgitamu ingitamu. [Skt.] n. Hint, sign, gesture, symptom. Intention, purpose, inclination. ఆకారేణైన చతురస్తర్కయంతి పరేంగితం, గర్భస్థం కేతకీపుష్ప మమోదదేనైవ షట్పదాః. From the countenance the wise discover the disposition as bees discover the unblown lily by its scent. ఇంగితజ్ఞుడు penetrating, skilful in reading a man's character, one who sees the heart. పరేంగితము knowledge of another's intention.

(p. 146) īluvu īluvu. [Tel.] n. Respectability, honour: character, faithfulness to a husband. పాతివ్రత్యము. Modesty. మానము, అభిమానము. Vasu. iii. 106. 'ఈలువు టాండ్రు.' (A. v. 74.) honourable women. Also, courage. ధైర్యము.

(p. 147) u . In poetry denotes a stanza in the metre named ఉత్పలమాల. The character ఉ. in common business is used as a contraction for ఉత్తరము an answer, as ప్ర. means a question.

(p. 164) upādhi upādhi. [Skt.] n. Meditation ధర్మచింత. One who support his family కుటుంబ పోషకుడు. Cause or means. వ్యాజము. An attribute or characteristic. విశేషణము. జీవనోపాధి means of subsistence.

(p. 178) ṛṇamu ṛiṇamu. [Skt.] n. Debt, obligation. A claim, a title or lien. ఇంతకున్ను ఇక్కడి నీళ్ల ఋణము ఎన్ని రోజులు ప్రాప్తి ఉన్నదో besides I know not how much longer it is my fate to dwell here. ఋణపడు ṛiṇa-paḍu. v. n. To get into debt. ఋణముచేయు ṛiṇamu-chēyu. v. a. To contract a debt, to borrow. ఋణముతీర్చు ṛiṇamu-tīrṭsu. To discharge a debt. ఋణత్రయము the three kinds of obligation, viz., దేవఋణము, ఋషిఋణము and పితృఋణము. ఋణవిముక్తుడు ṛiṇa-vimuktuḍu. n. One who is free from debt. ఋణస్థుడు. or ఋణి or ఋణికుడు ṛiṇasthuḍu. n. A debtor. ఋణార్ణము ṛiṇārṇamu. n. A debt contracted to pay off another debt. అప్పు తీర్చుటకై చేసిన అప్పు.

(p. 179) e e. As a prefix the long ē is contracted into the short e, while the next consonant is doubled; thus ఏ what, and కడ place, becomes ఎక్కడ.

(p. 186) eḍlu eḍlu. [Tel. Contracted from ఎద్దులు] n, Oxen, cattle దుక్కియెడ్లు plough oxen.

(p. 216) ō ō. [Tel.] Added to cardinal numbers it forms ordinals మూడు three; మూడో third; this is contracted for మూడవ.
