Among them the male deities are chiefly these: పోతురాజు, కాట్రేడు, అంకాళు, గంగయ, చెన్నడు and మైలారు. The principal village goddesses are పెద్దమ్మ, కాట్రేణి, అంకాళమ్మ, ఎక్కళమ్మ, ఎల్లమ్మ, మల్లమ్మ, మామిళ్లమ్మ, మైసమ్మ or మైసూరమ్మ, (i. e. మహిషీ.) మారియమ్మ, మారెమ్మ (who probably is meant for 'Maria') యాగాతమ్మ (that is, Saint Agatha,) and సుంకలమ్మ or సుంకెళమ్మ, of whom one inflicts the cholera, another the small pox (see అమ్మవారు) another murrain, another blight. None have any beneficent powers, and they are worshipped to avert their displeasure. గ్రామసింహము grāma-simhamu. n. The lion of the village, i.e., a dog. గ్రామస్థుడు grāma-sthuḍu. n. A villager. స్వగ్రామస్థుడు a fellow citizen or neighbour. గ్రామాంతము grām-āntamu. n. The outlying portion of a village, i.e. the Panchama quarter. మాలపల్లె. గ్రామాదులు grām-ādulu. n. Villages. Lit. Villages, &c. గ్రామ్యము grāmyamu. adj. Village-born; produced in or relating to a village. Vulgar, rude, rustic. Common, colloquial, unclassical, inelegant: The opposite of శాస్త్రీయము. In Grammar the term is applied to conversational forms as వస్తాడు, తెస్తాడు, like they're, I'm, you're, he's, in English, which are supposed to be in admissible in literature, though they occur in all even the best poets. గ్రామ్యధర్మము grāmya-dharmamu. n. Sexual intercourse. సంభోగము. Lit. what is usual or the fashion, or way of the world.

(p. 888) bīḍu bīḍu. [Tel.] adj. Waste. Base, low, inferior, poor, second-rate, as rice, or a colour. నాపని యిప్పుడు నిండా బీడుగా నున్నది my affairs are in a very bad condition. బీడుది యెందుకు I don't want the worst. బీడుభూమి waste land. n. A waste, uncultivated land, barren land. Worthless iron. మట్టపు ఇనుము. చేనిలో పుట్టునబీడు ఎక్కడికి పోవును shall I not do what I will with my own? వెదురుబీడు bamboo jungle. గడ్డిపట్టినబీళ్లు grass commons, meadows kept for grass.

(p. 1115) laukikamu laukikamu. [Skt. from లోకము.] (Vulgarly, లౌకికము.) n. Business, worldly affairs. ఉద్యోగము, లోకవ్యాపారము. అతనికి ఇప్పుడు లౌకికము లేదు he is now unemployed. adj. Secular, mundane, worldly, human, what prevails amongst men or is familiar to mankind. ప్రపంచసంబంధమైన. M. XIII. v. 192. లౌకికుడు laukikuḍu. (vulgarly, లౌకీకుడు) n.
