(p. 18) aṃśuvu amṣuvu. [Skt.] n. A ray or light, a beam. కిరణము. అంశుజాలము amṣujālamu. [Skt.] n. A garland of the rays of light, a halo. అంశుమాలి amṣu-māli. [Skt.] n. He who is girded with rays. An epithet of the sun. సూర్యుడు. అంశుమంతుడు amṣuman-tuḍu. [Skt.] n. The sun or moon. సూర్యుడు. A rich man.

(p. 28) accāḷi or అచ్చాళు aṭṭsāḷi. (K) One who lives a single life, an unmarried person. ఒంటిమనిషి, ఏకాంగిగా మండేవాడు, సంసారపు పీకులాటలేనివాడు అచ్చాళుగానుండు or అచ్చాళిగానుండు to be alone, to be quiet, free from perturbation. 'చారుశిలాముఖ్యజలజలోచనల, చేరికాబంధుల చెలులనీక్షణమె, పగరకుజొరరాక బహుదుర్గమార్గ, మగుకోహళమహర్షి యాశ్రమస్థలిని, జేరిచి మనము నిశ్చింతనేతెంచి, యారూఢిబలయుక్తి నచ్చాళిగాగ, అనికిసన్నద్ధులమై యందమవల.' (p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 40) atidēśamu ati-dēṣamu. [Skt. Lit. making over.] n. Extended application, inference, analogy, substitution.

(p. 60) anvayamu anvayamu. [Skt.] n. Race, lineage. In grammar, the government of words in a sentence. Syntax. వంశము. పదముల యొక్క పరస్పరాకాంక్షాయోగ్యత, ఇమిడిక. ఈ. శ్లోకమునకు అన్వయము తెలియలేదు I do not perceive the syntax of this verse. దురాన్వయము a far-fetched allusion. కౌరవాన్వయుడు one of the Kuru race. అన్వయజ్ఞుడు a genealogist. అన్వయవ్యాప్తి (in Logic,) an affirmative argument అన్వయించు v. a. To arrange words in their natural order, explain the syntax. పదముల సంబంధమును చెప్పు, పొందికపరుచు.

(p. 75) amōghamu a-mōghamu. [Skt.] adj. Fruitful, not vain, unerring, efficacious. సఫలమైన, నిరర్థకముకాని. he fell into a deep sleep. వానికి అమోఘవిక్రముడు a man of unerring valor.

(p. 84) ardhamu ardhamu. [Skt.] adj. Half; a moiety. సగము. అర్ధచంద్రుడు or అర్ధేందువు the crescent moon, a half moon. అర్థనారీశ్వరుడు the god Siva, in his form of half man and half woman. అర్థరాత్రి midnight. అర్ధాంగీకారము half permission, doubtful consent. అర్ధాక్షరము a half letter. (that is) a letter incompletely sounded, ask in పృథక్ prithak. అర్ధచతష్టి purblindness. అర్ధగోళము a hemisphere. అర్ధరథుడు a warrior who fights on a car along with another. అర్ధరాత్రార్థదివసము the equinox. అర్ధవ్యాసము half a circle. అర్ధాశనము half a meal. అర్ధోరుకము arthōrukamu. n. A short petticoat. వేశ్యలు సగముతొడల దాకా తొడుగుకొనే చల్లడము, లాగు.

(p. 111) āḍaṅgi or ఆణంగి āḍangi. [Tel.] n. A female. (Usually in the plural alone) ఆడంగులు, or ఆణంగులు women. ఆడంగిమాటలు language fit for a woman. ఆడంగిలేకి a girlish fop.

(p. 116) ānu ānu. [Tel.] v. a. To press on, put on. అణచు, ధరించు. To drink. తేంట్లు మద్యములానును the bess drink honey. పాలిండ్లన్ విషమాని putting poison on her nipples. చేతులచెవులాని putting his hands to his ears. అనిక āninṭsu. v. a. To cause to rest on. ఆనిక ānika. n. A support, strength. అనుకర్ర ānu-karra. n. A prop. ఊతకోల. అనుకొను ānu-konu. v. a. To lean against or on. To border on, be contiguous to. ఆడివిని ఆనుకొన్న చేనులు lands bordering on the forest. ఓడను ఆనుకొన్న పడవలు the boats that were alongside the ship. ఆనుడు బిళ్ల ānuḍu-biḷḷa. n. A cushion to lean on, a semicircular cushion or pillow. ఒరుగుదిండు.

(p. 121) ārabhaṭi āra-bhaṭi. [Skt.] n. Valour, manhood. బంటుతనము, ప్రౌఢిమ. R. i. 108. A grand style in Tel. or Skt. Composition. ఒక కావ్య వృత్తి.

(p. 123) ārcu or అరచు ārṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To cry aloud, about, roar. కూయు, కేకవేయు. ఆర్చు or అరుచు v. a. To dry up, to quench, extinguish, to cool, dry, appease, allay, to heal or cure, destroy, to dry in the sun, to expose to heat, to cause to dry; to move to and fro. ఆడించు. to move the eyelid. పోకార్చు to ruin, destroy. విక్రయమార్చు to sell. BD. v. 526.

(p. 131) iṅka inka. [Tel.] adv. More, yet more, still yet. As yet, till now, hitherto, hereafter, presently. Henceforth. ఇంకరా come along, come further. ఇంక చూడు look further! ఇంకా Same as ఇంక.

(p. 150) uccinta or ఉచ్చిత uchchinta. [Tel.] n. The gigantic swallowwort: a large kind of calotropis. HK. iii. 70. అలర్కశాకము. Rox. i. 571.

(p. 156) utsukamu ut-sukamu. [Skt.] adj. Strenuous, zealously active, earnest, zealous ఉత్సాహము గల.

(p. 159) udyāpanamu ud-yuktamu.[Skt.] adj. Attempted. Zealous, resolved, determined. ఉద్యోక్తుడు He who is ready or prepared. యత్నించువాడు, సిద్ధముగానున్నవాడు. అక్కడికి పోవలెనని ఉద్యోక్తుడై being about to go. జాబు వ్రాయుటకు ఉద్యోక్తుడనై when I was going to write the letter. క్రూరమైన పనికి ఉద్యుక్తుడై ready to do a cruel deed.
