(p. 28) accāḷi or అచ్చాళు aṭṭsāḷi. (K) One who lives a single life, an unmarried person. ఒంటిమనిషి, ఏకాంగిగా మండేవాడు, సంసారపు పీకులాటలేనివాడు అచ్చాళుగానుండు or అచ్చాళిగానుండు to be alone, to be quiet, free from perturbation. 'చారుశిలాముఖ్యజలజలోచనల, చేరికాబంధుల చెలులనీక్షణమె, పగరకుజొరరాక బహుదుర్గమార్గ, మగుకోహళమహర్షి యాశ్రమస్థలిని, జేరిచి మనము నిశ్చింతనేతెంచి, యారూఢిబలయుక్తి నచ్చాళిగాగ, అనికిసన్నద్ధులమై యందమవల.' Pātivratya. 35.

(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 84) ardhamu ardhamu. [Skt.] adj. Half; a moiety. సగము. అర్ధచంద్రుడు or అర్ధేందువు the crescent moon, a half moon. అర్థనారీశ్వరుడు the god Siva, in his form of half man and half woman. అర్థరాత్రి midnight. అర్ధాంగీకారము half permission, doubtful consent. అర్ధాక్షరము a half letter. (that is) a letter incompletely sounded, ask in పృథక్ prithak. అర్ధచతష్టి purblindness. అర్ధగోళము a hemisphere. అర్ధరథుడు a warrior who fights on a car along with another. అర్ధరాత్రార్థదివసము the equinox. అర్ధవ్యాసము half a circle. అర్ధాశనము half a meal. అర్ధోరుకము arthōrukamu. n. A short petticoat. వేశ్యలు సగముతొడల దాకా తొడుగుకొనే చల్లడము, లాగు.

(p. 111) āḍaṅgi or ఆణంగి āḍangi. [Tel.] n. A female. (Usually in the plural alone) ఆడంగులు, or ఆణంగులు women. ఆడంగిమాటలు language fit for a woman. ఆడంగిలేకి a girlish fop.

(p. 116) ānu ānu. [Tel.] v. a. To press on, put on. అణచు, ధరించు. To drink. తేంట్లు మద్యములానును the bess drink honey. పాలిండ్లన్ విషమాని putting poison on her nipples. చేతులచెవులాని putting his hands to his ears. అనిక āninṭsu. v. a. To cause to rest on. ఆనిక ānika. n. A support, strength. అనుకర్ర ānu-karra. n. A prop. ఊతకోల. అనుకొను ānu-konu. v. a. To lean against or on. To border on, be contiguous to. ఆడివిని ఆనుకొన్న చేనులు lands bordering on the forest. ఓడను ఆనుకొన్న పడవలు the boats that were alongside the ship. ఆనుడు బిళ్ల ānuḍu-biḷḷa. n. A cushion to lean on, a semicircular cushion or pillow. ఒరుగుదిండు.

(p. 131) iṅka inka. [Tel.] adv. More, yet more, still yet. As yet, till now, hitherto, hereafter, presently. Henceforth. ఇంకరా come along, come further. ఇంక చూడు look further! ఇంకా Same as ఇంక.

(p. 182) ega ega. [Tel. from ఎగయు] adv. Up, upward. ఎగగొట్టు ega-goṭṭu. v. a. To throw up, rob, to run away with. ఎగురజేయు, అపహరించు. ఎగగ్రోలు ega-grōlu. v. t. To suck up పీల్చు. ఎగజల్లు ega-zallu. v. t. To scatter upward. పైకి చల్లు. ఎగజేపు ega-jēpu. v. a. To keep in (the milk) or restrain it from flowing (as a cow does unless the calf is with her. ఎగదన్ను ega-dannu. v. t. To kick up. ఎగదీయు ega-dīyu. v. a. To lift or pull up. To raise. ఎగదువ్వు ega-duvvu. v. t. To comb upwards. మీదికి దువ్వు. ఎగదోయు ega-dōyu. v. t. To lift up, push up. ఎగమాడు ega-n-ūdu. v. t. To blow upwards, to disregard. పైకి ఊదు, తిరస్కరించు. ఎగనెత్తు ega-n-ettu. v. t. To lift up. పైకెత్తు ఎగబట్టు ega-baṭṭu. v. t. To hold up. ఎత్తపట్టు. ఎగబీల్చు ega-bīlṭsu. v. t. To snort aloud. ఎగఊపిరి ega-ūpiri. n. A gasp. ఎగబోత ega-bōta. n Spreading upwards, giving bad advice, rumination, a brown study, discontent. ఎగువకు వ్యాపించుట, దుర్భోధనచేయుట. వానికి చెమట యెగబోత దిగబోతగా నున్నది he was in a sweat from head to foot. ఎగబోయు ega-bōyu. v. t. To give bad advice. దుర్భోధచేయు to hint. మాచించు. ఎగబ్రాకు ega-brāku. v. i. To creep up, crawl up. మీదికి ప్రాకు. ఎగరో౛ు ega-rōzu. v. i. To breathe hard. ఎగరొప్పు ega-roppu. n. Breathing hard. ఎగవిడుచు ega-viḍuṭsu. v. t. To let alone. ఊరకవిడుచు. ఎగవేయు ega-vēyu. v. t. To embexxle, misappropriate. అపహరించు.

(p. 193) ē ē. An affix denoting 'only'; by oneself, without others' help. నేనే పోతిని I alone went. వాని యింటికి మా యింటికి ఒక గోడే అడ్డము there is only a wall between his house and mine. ఆ లెక్కను నేనే చేసితిని I did that sum myself.

(p. 194) ēkāṅgi ēkāngi. [Skt. ఏక+అంగి] n. A recluse, a solitary. ఒంటివాడు. వారందరున్ను చచ్చి వీడు ఏకాంగిగా నిలిచినాడు he alone survived. ఏకాంగీలోకరక్షకః అని ఒంటివాడుగా నున్నాడు he is alone, the last of his race.

(p. 204) oṇṭari onṭari. [Tel. ఒంటి+అరి.] adj. Alone, single ఏకాకి. ఒంటరి n. One who fights alone. అసహాయుడైన బంటు, ఏకభటుడు. ఒంటరికత్తె onṭari-katte. n. A lonely woman. A single woman. ఒంటరికము onṭarikamu. Solitude, loneliness, privacy. ఒంటరికాడు onṭari-kāḍu. n. A solitary person or animal. ఏకాకి. One who fights alone అసహాయుడైనబంటు. A hog or a rhinoceros. అడవిపంది, లేక, ఖడ్గమృగము. ఒంటరిపాటు onṭari-pāṭu. n. Loneliness, privacy, retirement, solitariness. ఏకాంతము, ఏకాకిత్వము. ఒంటరీడు onṭarīḍu (ఒంటరి+ఈడు) Same as ఒంటరి (n). ఒంటరులు onṭarulu. n. Foot soldiers, Infantry. కాలిబంట్లు.

(p. 235) kaḍavottu or కడవత్తు kaḍa-vottu. [Tel.] n. The beam that lies along the top of the wall and sustains the roof.

(p. 270) kāni or గాని kāni. [Tel.] (conj. denoting an alternative.) But, either, or, except, unless. And not, nor, Rather, Before. జాజియొక్కటియెకాని సకలకుసమ విసరసంపదచేనొప్పె వసుధయెల్ల , విరహణియెకానిధరణిపై వివిధజనులు సంతసములొందజేసె వసంతవేళ.' Sunandā Parinyam, iv. 22. 'ఆలలు మగనిమాట కడ్డంబు వచ్చెనా ఆలలుకాదది వానివ్రాలుకాని.' (Vēma.) ఇంతేకాని నేనేమెరుగను I know nothing but this. ఇదియేమోకాని I cannot tell what this may be. అదిగాని యిదిగాని either that or this. ఆపని పది దినములకుగాని కాదు that work cannot be finished in less than ten days. రేపుగాని రాడు he will not come here before to-morrow. ఉద్యోగము చిక్కుననే అపేక్ష ఉంటేగాని నేను అక్కడ ఉండను I would not have remained there had I not hoped to gain employment. ఇది అతని చేతగాని మరి యొకనిచేతకాదు he alone can do it, no one else can. ఎల్లవిధముల నిను వధియించిగాని పురికి నురుగముగావున for we will not return without slaying thee. అతడు వస్తేనేగాని యీపని కానేరదు unless he comes we cannot effect this. కాని or కానీ (for కానిమ్ము) imp. verb denoting assent. Let it be done. Be it so. Never mind. Very well. ఆ పని ముందరకానీ let that be done first. కానీ కానీ నీ కావరమణతు very well, I will crush your pride.

(p. 273) kāya kāya. [Tel. from కాచు.] n. 1. A green unripe fruit. అరటికాయలు green plantains. 2. A nut, berry, pod, bulb, knob, head. 3. Anything round, as the head (తలకాయ) the bob of a plummet: a boss or round piece. 4. The word is used for a thing or article: as a piece at chess తుంటకాయ a wicked thing or creature. 5. A pimple: a wart. తవ్వడముచేత వాడిచేతులు కాయలుకాచినవి his hands are callous or hard with digging: he has a wart on his hand. 7. A bottle. రెండు కాయలను ఒకడే తీసుకొన్నాడు he alone drank two bottles. 8. As an affix it often leaves the sense unaltered: thus తల or తలకాయ the head. పిల్ల or పిల్లకాయ a child. గొంతు or గొంతుకాయ the throat. పుస్తె or పుస్తెకాయ a marriage token worn on the neck మొట్టు or మొట్టికాయ a blow or knock. ఎండ్రకాయ a crab. చెంపకాయ a slap on the cheek. Some fruits are called కాయ even though ripe, thus (from టెంకి shell) టెంకాయ a cocoanut. మిరపకాయ a chillie. ఉల్లికాయ an onion. కూరగాయలు or కాయగూరలు vegetables. కాయధాన్యములు kāya-dhānyamulu. n. Pulse: all sorts of grain contained in pods: as పెసలు, కందులు, సెనగలు, &c.

(p. 277) kālu kālu. [Tel.] n. A leg, a foot, a claw, a talon. మోకాలు the knee. మిగాలు the upper surface of the foot. A pillar. నూరుకాళ్లమంటపము a portico built on 100 pillars. A quarter or fourth part. ముక్కాలు being three legs, or quarters. Bilh. ii. 154. కాళ్లకడ at the feet. కాళ్లజెర్రి a centipede. కంపకాలు a fence: lit. a fence-foot. కాలిడొంక (A. vi. 16) a foot path. కాలుత్రవ్వు to paw the ground, to be eager for fighting. M. XII. ii. 301. A. v. 87. సన్నద్ధుడగు. నా కొడుకు పెండ్లాన్ని బిడ్డలను నాకాళ్లగట్టిపోయినాడు my son died and left a widow and children on my hands. మూడుకాళ్ల ముసలి (P. i. 322.) a three legged old woman, because leaning on a staff. తే 'మరుడుశైంగార వీధులేలర్పరచితనదు పేరనోవకపేటకట్టి సంప్తీతితోర ణాలనుంచిన కాలుకంబాలనంగ కలికియూరులు చెలుగు పై కాంచి మెరయ.' Bilh. ii. 154.

(p. 310) kēvalamu kēvalamu. [Skt.] adj. and adv. Pure, mere, simple, unmixed, uncompounded. ఒక్కటేయైన. ఇది కేవలము బంగారు తోచేసినది this is made with gold alone. కేవలము నీళ్లేతాగినాడు he drank nothing but water. వాడు కేవలవైయాకరణుడు he is a mere grammarian. వాడు కేవల నైయాయికుడు he is a mere logician. Altogether, in every respect. అంతయున్ను: as ఈ పట్టణము కేవలము లంకవలెనున్నది this city is in every respect like Lanka. ఇది కేవలమనృతము this is entirely false. కేవలుడు kēvaluḍu. n. The supreme Spirit పరమాత్మ.
