(p. 15) ampakamu or అంపకాలు ampakamu. [Tel.] n. Permission to go; dismission. An entertainment given to a friend on the occasion of his departure. పంపించడము, సెలవు విందుచేసి సాగనంపడము, బహుమానమిచ్చిపంపడము. అంపకముచేయు to dismiss, send away. అల్లునికి అంపకము చేసి పంపిరి they gave the son-in-law the entertainment preparatory to his departure and sent him away. 'బ్రహ్మసభకేనుబోయి కొంత, కాలముదుండి యజుడంపకంబుసేయ, మానవసరంబునకువచ్చి.' H. 4. 7

(p. 20) akkara akkara. [Tel.] n. Necessity, occasion, want, need, desire, అగత్యము. అక్కరతీర్చు to relieve from want. అది నాకక్కరలేదు I do not want it. దీనితో నీకేమి అక్కర what have you to do with this? నీవక్కడికి రావలసిన అక్కరయేమి what business had you to come there? అక్కరకొద్దీ మాట్లాడుట to speak as necessity demands. అది అక్కరకురాదు it will be of no use. వాడికి ఆ పని అక్కరపట్టలేదు he does not care for it. అక్కరకాడు one who is in need. అక్కరగలవాడు; అక్కరగండడు one who has an interest in an affair. శ్రద్ధగలవాడు; అక్కరపడు, అక్కరగొను to feel an interest in a thing. అక్కరకలిగియుండు, అక్కరపాటు a state of necessity. అక్కరపడుట.

(p. 26) agni agni. [Skt. Lat. ignis.] n. The plant called Ceylon lead-wort. Plumbago Ẕelanica. చిత్రమూలము. అగ్నివేండపాకు ammannia baccifera or blistering Ammannia (Watts) అగ్ని శిఖ. a flame of fire. Also a plant (Gloriosa superba) తరిగొర్రెచెట్టు, కుంకుమపువ్వు చెట్టు the Saf-flower plant. అగ్నిహోత్రము fire. అగ్నిహోత్రుడు the god of fire. అగ్నిహోత్రాలు కాల్చుచున్నాడు or చేయుచున్నాడు colloquial for 'he is smoking.'

(p. 34) aḍavataḍava , or అడపాతడపా aḍapa-taḍapa. [Tel.] adv. Now and then, occasionally. అప్పుడప్పుడు.

(p. 37) aḍugu aḍugu. [Tel.] n. The foot, the footstep, a pace, step, the bottom, basis. A foot in length containing twelve inches. A line of verse. Thus four 'feet' make one stanza, or quatrain. చెట్టు అడుగు the foot of a tree. అడుగురాయి a stone at the bottom కొండ అడుగుననుండే ఊరు a village at the foot of a mountain. ఆ కథను అడుగునుంచి చెప్పు tell the story from the beginning. కుండ అడుగు the bottom of a pot. అడుగంటకోయు to cut off by the root. అడుగుతో పెళ్లగించు to eradicate, to root out. అడుగారిపోవు to be utterly ruined. నా మాటకు అడుగుదాటకు do not transgress my command. వాని అడుగుల జాడ పట్టుకొని పోయినారు they traced his footsteps and followed him. అడుగడుగున or అడుగడుగునకు step by step, now and then, often. అన్నము అడుగంటినది the rice has burnt at the bottom of the pot.

(p. 38) aḍḍasaramu or అడ్డసరపు చెట్టు aḍḍa-saramu. [Tadbhava from అటరూష.] n. A medicinal shrub. Adhatoda Vasica (E. P.)

(p. 40) atasi atasi. [Skt.] n. Common flax: Linum Usitatissimum; also, a leguminous tree, the leaves of which are dressed and eaten. (Coronilla grandiflora.) అవిసె చెట్టు.

(p. 41) atuku atuku. [Tel.] n. Junction, union patch. ౛తపరిచినది. అతుకులబ్రతుకు living in another man's house. అతుకు v. n. To join. To agree with, to be fit. అంటుకొను అతుకు లేక అతికించు, v. t. To solder, cement, join, unite to. అంటించు, చేర్చు, జరపరచు. అతుకుబడి fixing; posting; the engagement to cultivate taken from the ryot at the commencement of the Revenue year; leasing. అతుకుబడిచేయు to rent out. అతుకుబాటు giving or letting out on rent.

(p. 46) adhivasiñcu adhi-vasinṭsu. [Skt.] v. n. To dwell. కాపురము ఉండు. అథివాసము n. An abode. ఉనికిసట్టు.

(p. 51) anāyāsamu an-āyāsamu. [Skt.] adv. Without pains or effort, easily, readily, సులభముగా.

(p. 62) aparihāryamu a-pari-hāryamu. [Skt.] adj. Indefeasible, unavoidable. పోగొట్టకూడని. అపరిహార్యులైన దేహసంబంధులు relations that cannot be neglected.

(p. 63) apalapiñcu or అపలాపము చేయు apa-lapinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To deny, conceal. ఉండగా లేదను, ఎరిగియుండగా ఎరుగనను, మరుగుచేయు. అపలాపము apa-lāpamu. [Skt.] n. Denial, concealment of knowledge, evasion. ఉండగా లేదనడము, ఎరిగియుండగా ఎరగననడము.

(p. 64) apahasiñcu apa-hasinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To laugh convulsively, to laugh outright To laugh at, deride. గేలి చేయు, ఎకసక్కెము చేయు, వెక్కిరించు. అపహాసము or అపహాస్యము apahāsyamu. [Skt.] n. Laughter, ridicule, jest. ఎకసక్కెము, వెక్కిరింపు.
